Rachel Morris42 said:Hi everyone.
I have a quick question regarding this new form we're using. For some reason, my imports from outside the country are showing up on my Sales Tax return as both input tax and assessed tax. It looks like they're just canceling each other out, when in reality, that amount should be reducing my total Sales Tax liability.🤷
Is there perhaps another section where I need to enter specific details about imports?
We've already taken care of the import duties.

Maybe they shouldn't be getting wiped out entirely. I guess it would make more sense to just list them as a pre-tax deduction—at least through the end of October.
If you're working on Synesis, there’s an option tucked away in the F-10 parameters. If you just hit that little key icon and select "No Solution," then yeah... everything will turn out exactly how you want it to. I guess.

Anyone tried filing their Sales Tax yet?
Just filed mine. It's done. (I only had the Sales Tax form—didn't need the acquisition or summary reports).

Honestly, 🙂 is just too much. Here’s one for you 😘.
I'm basically just waiting for someone to actually challenge you, so you can finally vomit up a massive wall of text covered in emojis. 🙂

Terry Johnson3 said:I am calm. You're the ones getting worked up because someone dared to offer a reasoned critique of your flawless software. You immediately resort to personal attacks and insults. That's just gutter behavior. The whole "garage" thing? You heard that from someone here looking for revenge against the owner by claiming the office is in a basement. Feel free to visit and see for yourselves—it’s definitely not a basement, and it looks a hell of a lot better than the local Starbucks. It was a garage once. I was there a few years ago, so maybe it's improved since then, but back then it was a disaster. It felt like walking into a stable full of wild animals. Instead of a greeting, I had to listen to a support lady screaming at some poor client. I won't even repeat the profanity used after she hung up. A total zoo.

As long as the moderators let you advertise for free

I didn't even mention Best Buy, so calling it advertising is a stretch. Great job! I guess I should have praised Apple instead.😂 That would have triggered a wave of sarcastic laughter...

wrote that Sisyphus is an excellent program

"Excellent" is a stretch, but it gets the job done. If it were truly terrible, nobody would buy it. My point is that it works for small-scale needs, provided you don't mind dealing with thousands of settings, endless parameters, constant crashes, and data loss.
It's true that those old legacy programs worked (and some still do, financially speaking, though tax regulations wiped out the warehouse side), but they suffered from the same issues because they relied on bad databases. Back then, cheap alternatives didn't exist. Now, they are everywhere, so I don't understand why anyone would insist on using something this bad. And then there's the guy bragging about "tinkering" with the database himself just to make it work properly. Honestly, the developers would be horrified, and they could probably sue him for that. Given that kind of "intervention," I'm not surprised their support team isn't being helpful.

Terry Johnson3, don't flatter yourself and stop exaggerating. You aren't "calm." You can't even watch the communication between Synapse users without jumping in. That doesn't make you calm.
Have I ever interrupted your chats when you were talking to your own software users? No. That means I'm not triggered by other people's presence. But what do you do in these situations? You throw stones at other people's programs, even though I know enough to be sure you have no clue what you're attacking or how it actually functions. You don't know Synapse, and I'll leave it at that—I see zero reason to waste my breath explaining it to you. Your anger is irrational from any objective or logical standpoint... so there's no way to change that state, no matter what I say. You're just Terry Johnson3—a little hothead... there's no helping you, and nothing ever has 🙂.

As for your description of the office space and those other "observations"... that's just not on my level. You exaggerated everything, so I won't even bother commenting on that part or giving it any weight. Just know that you ended up describing yourself more than the office. 😁

Look, Terry Johnson3, just calm down!

First you go on a rant 🙂, then maybe you'll stay quiet for a few pages before starting up again. I truly hope you manage to land some actual clients for your site so you'll be too busy working to bother us here.
As long as the moderators let you run free ads, whatever. But let's be real: you aren't following the thread; you're just jumping in to derail everything.

Being honest doesn't mean trashing an entire software package. I've told you before—Synesis is excellent software. It’s not just my opinion; plenty of other users have said the same. If I point out something that could be improved, my goal isn't to bash my own tools or anyone else's, but to actually fix the issue at hand.

But you wouldn't get that. Even Ribba pointed out that you've got it all wrong and that you're basically just running anti-propaganda against the very program you're supposed to be promoting. If I were the owner of the software you're peddling, my blood pressure would spike every time you showed up here to drop your little "gems." 😁

Look, I’ve wasted enough money on seminars over the years to realize one thing:
lawyers and consultants can join any course they want without blinking. To them, it’s just some jargon or a few letters on a page. But for people like us? If things get too theoretical or if someone starts splitting hairs over nothing, it feels like a noose tightening around our necks.

The only thing that actually matters to me is the date on the invoice (I don't care what else it says... whether it was generated then or now... whether it’s a transaction record or fiscalized... whatever... I really don't give a damn!). 😢

Total taxable transactions.
Calculating the IRS tax code requirements during importation.

So, we're really looking at a zero here?

Wait, how can that be zero if the sales tax has already been paid?
There has to be another way. 🤷

casualorca5 said:I also had sales tax paid on imports back in July. If it pulls into my import liability, I'll just delete the entry.
Under Section 76, Subsection 8 of the tax code, there is an option to report import tax solely for accounting purposes. A specific ruling will be issued regarding this method. It should be detailed in the upcoming IRS tax code updates. 😁

From what I gathered regarding the Law's transitional provisions, the Secretary needs to issue the new VAT regulations within four months of joining the European Union. This would dictate how rulings are issued so that import VAT is treated as an accounting category; until then, everyone pays import VAT and simply lists it under Roman numeral III, point 6, as input tax.
It can't be an accounting category for anyone during July. If you happen to be using Synesis, check the help key (F10) under the special import records. If you set it to: "Without Ruling," it will only report the input tax.
If you don't see that option in the software (help key), you probably need to update your version.

@ruggedmaker2
Was there any mention of an update to the IRS tax code?

All jokes aside, I’m probably not your guy for any "deep" philosophical discussions. I’m more about just grabbing a drink and keeping things simple! 😍

😍 Hah! What a mess that would be. Honestly, probably more chaotic than trying to debug accounting software on a Monday morning. 😍
The real question is whether City Hall would even allow it... mostly because they’d be terrified that some local hooligans would just start running wild without any supervision. 😍

🙂 God, just give me any vacation at this point! I don't care if it's boring, wild, rainy, windy, freezing cold, or tropical heat... just let it happen.

The law is essentially brand new—if you look at the European Union side of things and beyond—so we really had to grind to learn everything from scratch without leaning on old experience. Plus, we basically have to "ignore" all those botched translations of the directive, since our own domestic law carries more weight in this case.

The whole situation regarding foreign currency and the balance on the account is just as bizarre, but it is what it is. We need to handle it by reporting the dollars, and as for the rest, if...

Honestly, it doesn't surprise me one bit that seasoned accountants are able to spout things that don't even hold water anymore...

Benjamin Palmer80 said:Last week, our local IRS office hosted a presentation regarding sales tax. A few of us raised questions about the reverse charge mechanism, and here was the verdict: when you're delivering GOODS, the reverse charge only applies in tripartite transactions, not in standard B2B deals.🙂
They repeated that several times. It’s completely different for services... honestly, it still makes zero sense to me.
I’ve actually called a handful of my clients—just those involving goods shipments within Chicago—to check their paperwork, and they are all over the place! If I try to do it right, they say it's fine; if I don't, they say it's fine too. They seem more worried about the cents on the invoice than the actual rules. Has anyone else received an invoice for goods or services from another district since July 1st? What does yours actually look like? 🤷

It’s been ringing in my ears, too. I didn't want to jump into the thread just yet, even though I've actually posted something similar here a few times before—though, I guess, it went mostly unnoticed.
Personally, I'm still not quite following. I guess it hasn't really clicked for me yet.

Wonderful. You’re "hanging out" at 2:00 AM and somehow "figuring it all out": shipping? transport? no transport? ... you jump to one website, then it flings you to another, then a third, and after bouncing around for a bit, you can't even remember where you started... just like that, for days on end.
Then you fall into some deep meditation regarding lines 11 and 12 on an IRS tax form... and you weep (tears of joy, obviously)... thanking God you were born during such a vital era, just to experience meeting Linić, digital tax reporting, reverse charge mechanisms, ....... and then come autumn, the JOPPD... a total dream that makes sleep impossible.☕☕

Can't sleep. Not happening. 😁

Brandon Anderson10 said:Basically, if you look through the Treasury Department's guidelines or even your favorite finance mag, you won't find a straight answer on how to tax services when they're shipped from DC to the US. It’s because Article 17 says the tax location is wherever the taxpayer receiving the service is based. Then, Article 20 doesn't say a single thing about the taxing location for a TAXPAYER within the USA... so I guess nobody bothers getting specific since everyone is supposed to just stick to the basics in Article 17. At least, that's my take. I'm heading to another seminar on July 10th, so maybe I'll finally get some real answers there.

Determining where a service is technically performed is such a headache since there are so many exceptions to the basic rule. My process is usually to hunt for those exceptions first—checking if it fits one or not—and only then do I even bother looking at the general rule. Honestly, it takes me way, way too long to figure out the location for any given service. I'm hoping things improve! 🙂

Carol Price4 said:FBI... yeah, that "reverse charge" headache is real. For me, it's pretty straightforward—just verify through the IRS and follow Section 41.1.a.

But wait—do you still need a written statement if the buyer picks up the goods right here and hauls them to another state themselves?

😕

The statement is mandatory. The Regulations (Section 170) basically just piggyback right onto Section 41 of the Tax Code. 🙂
