silverbadger said:Is the "Attachments" button on the IRS portal going to stay disabled when we try to file the sales tax forms? Are we really expected to file the paperwork online this year only to walk all the way down to the local precinct to hand-deliver the physical attachments to the agents?

So, I was just skimming through the instructions again, and it finally clicked—you can actually include attachments along with the PD. Thank God!

I wanted to jump in and give you some firsthand insight on this situation. We actually filed our final return this past Friday—well, we were a little early, haha—and I can confirm that the attachments feature is working perfectly fine. The key is making sure everything is saved as a PDF; once you hit send, the system confirms they’ve been submitted and everything looks good on our end. The only real headache is that because of where we are located, some of the agents over at the IRS simply have no clue that you can submit everything digitally through the online portal. When we sent ours off, I gave my agent a call just to double-check that she could see the files. I told her we had included all the attachments, but she was totally baffled—she honestly had no idea that attaching PDFs was even an option. Since the local office hasn't updated their internal software to handle the 2012 filings yet, she couldn't actually pull anything up to verify. Eventually, she pulled up the official instruction manual and realized that everything is supposed to be routed through the IRS electronic system now. We made sure to include the gross balance sheet and the reconciliation between the corporate tax and sales tax forms, all in PDF format. Now, I won't hear back from her regarding whether she successfully processed everything until sometime in April.

I actually spoke with a lady at the local field office yesterday, and she admitted that a ton of people have been filing complaints because the system is such a mess. She basically said they’re still trying to iron out the kinks and told me we just need to hang in there through the week—she’s personally hoping everything stabilizes by next Monday. To top it all off, getting a hold of technical support is impossible; they aren't responding to any of my emails at all.

Kimberly Harris6, you are absolutely right—the whole thing is a mess. It’s incredibly inconsistent. One day I can download tax transcripts without an issue, and the next, it’s completely blocked. Sometimes it works for half my client list, then fails for everyone else the following morning. I tried submitting a VAT return today, but it just bounced back with a generic error message during the transmission process. When I finally got a response to one of my email threads, they claimed the system was simply overwhelmed by the sheer volume of data entry and asked for our patience. It sounds like the official line you were given at the IRS office. At this point, all we can do is exercise our usual patience, though I have to say, the quality of this rollout is frankly subpar.

Basically, things like balance sheets, income statements, and loan agreements—though whether they ask for those depends entirely on which specific auditor you're dealing with.

You simply navigate to the IRS website; they've provided a direct link right there that will grant you access to the system.

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the RNC cards for all their clients? I’m specifically asking about those of us who hold authorizations for multiple parties. For me, it’s working for about half of them, but for the other half, I just get an error message telling me to try again. I actually reached out to the IRS via email, and their initial response was that they hadn't rolled out full access permissions to everyone yet due to the sheer volume of data being processed—which seemed like a reasonable excuse on day one. But it’s now the sixth day. They haven't even replied to my follow-up email from two days ago, and since you can't get anyone on the phone, I've been aggressively resubmitting my inquiries. Is anyone else running into this same wall?

Nicole Lee6 said:Where on earth am I supposed to find those "IRS tax codes" the software keeps demanding while I'm trying to generate these forms? Am I supposed to manually enter the specific tax jurisdiction code where these filings were originally submitted?

Those are just the standard tax return codes for the filings you usually submit. You can actually hunt them down pretty easily this way: Log into the IRS portal and open a VAT form as if you were going to type everything in manually rather than importing it from your software. Once you're in, select the local district office and the specific filing type in the header, then simply hit "print." That should display the code right there for you.

mistynomad3 said:I am completely lost with this online IRS filing system. Under the period section, I entered 12 months because I was reporting my annual salary, but after I submitted everything, I realized the first page already specifies the 12-month duration. Now I’m stuck looking at two different forms for the same 12-month period showing totally different amounts. How do I fix this mess? Thanks.

Well, you essentially mislabeled the period right at the start. Since the pay for December isn't actually disbursed until January, the first page should reflect January, and the filing deadline is February 15th.
My advice would be to simply draft a new, corrected form and resubmit it via the IRS website. However, I’d highly recommend giving your assigned agent at the IRS a quick call to let them know. If you ask them to pull the corrected version immediately, it should effectively override the incorrect one currently in the system. It’s just a bit of extra due diligence to ensure they prioritize the right document.
