Oops, looks like we're getting an ice rink back, and they're even looking at new spots.
The danger seems to have passed, and suddenly the revenue generated for New York City and its residents during the Christmas Market will become a major talking point.😁

The ice rink is returning to Tomislavac. It’ll be a bit smaller than what we had under the previous administration, though. The current tender specifies that the rink can't take up more than 600 square meters of green space.

I support Eric Adams' decision here, though I hope he continues working to fix his other missteps as well.

Eric Adams is out here claiming things are finally "getting back on track" with the trash pickup in New York City. Apparently, 95 percent of the routes are running perfectly on time, and he’s acting like that’s some kind of huge win. He says the other five percent is just a minor delay in certain routes, insisting there aren't any missed pickups—just slight delays—and that they'll have it all sorted out "very soon."

I mean, easy for him to say, I guess. In my neighborhood, they've already skipped three pickups in a row.

They skipped us in my neighborhood again too. After I called, Sanitation gave me the excuse that they won't be back until the next regularly scheduled pickup. They apologized, claiming they're short on workers and trucks, but promised they're working through the backlog so everyone gets at least one pickup a week. You really think it's just 5%?😁

So, last year’s Christmas season in New York City felt a little... I don't know, stripped back? Different vibes. Some people dug it, I guess, but others definitely felt like it was missing that certain spark. Well, anyway, the city just put out the RFPs for this year's festivities, and the big news is they’re spreading things out beyond just the downtown core—so you’ll actually see celebrations popping up in other neighborhoods now. Oh, and those little holiday stalls? They're making a comeback at Central Park and Washington Square Park.

What about an ice rink?

He's basically trying to fix what he broke himself. There will probably be an ice rink, too.
But given how much he messed things up last Christmas season, it's going to take some time to get back to those previous levels.
I'm mostly wondering how his supporters are going to react to this. Is he going to claim there's no longer a danger of falling debris hitting people in that dilapidated downtown area?😁

I appreciate the passion, but we should probably work on the basics first—things like actual proof, solid arguments, and (based on these posts) actually reading what others write before responding.

Empty rhetoric and bluffing might fly at a local pub, but it doesn't hold much weight on a forum like this. 😉

Even the director of Waste Management eventually admitted there are major issues with trash pickup and asked residents to be patient.
So, when you claim everything is running perfectly just because your two specific spots are fine, you're being dishonest. You're ignoring the facts I linked, relying solely on your own word. It feels like you're just trolling at this point.😉

frozenraven22 said:I’ll be honest—as soon as I saw him, I felt a genuine pang of sympathy. It hit me right away. 😲

Cut the nonsense, stop the stalling, and quit trying to sugarcoat things. Let's go again: which ones are they? Straight to the point. The current administration's recent moves have completely backfired. It’s exactly what we feared would happen. Things are going downhill. Fast. The system? Please. It’s a joke.

Regarding the spin, you're the only one lying here. In your neck of the woods, trash pickup works perfectly at both locations. Impressive, right?

Pure incompetence and lack of direction led us here. Everyone is saying the Department of Sanitation's fleet has been cut in half and they're losing staff. They don't have enough field workers—and I'm not talking about the office staff. When you freeze public contracts and stop hiring the people needed on the ground, this is exactly what happens.

frozenraven22 said:But you specifically claimed the "system has never been worse." Sorry to break it to you, but this forum keeps a record of previous posts. Better luck next time.

Quincy:
There were always problems, but they've reached a breaking point now.
Reached a breaking point how, exactly? What concrete moves by TT and their crew caused things to get worse?

Quincy:
A year is more than enough time to at least improve things a little.
Whether we're talking about Narnia, Interworld, or Westeros. In the real world, things aren't that simple.👎

I still maintain that the waste management system has never been worse.
About ten years ago, trash was picked up three times a week. Under Ed Koch, they cut it down to twice a week, and now it’s frequently only once a week.
On top of that, they're announcing a new collection method involving bags and price hikes.
We could also look at the bulk waste issues and the logistical mess of collection and disposal. Think about hauling stuff to a small town in Kansas to be crushed just to bring it back to Brooklyn, or moving it to Queens only to haul it all the way back to Brooklyn for landfilling. Don't you think that wastes massive amounts of time, resources, and money?
If you think everything was perfect before, then there's really no point in continuing this discussion.

frozenraven22 said:How about you actually try reading the article you’re quoting for once? 🤣

It was a hallmark of the Bernie Sanders era that you could never actually count on the trash being picked up on time. Now, under Eric Adams, we’re seeing the exact same mess. It hasn't changed one bit.

Why hasn't Vince managed to hire a single new operative in over six months?

To kick things off, Berkshire Hathaway first had to handle the process of reassignment for surplus staff in other departments as part of the overall headcount reduction. That took several months to work through. Meanwhile, the Department of Sanitation finished their own restructuring, so they’ve already opened up applications for 25 new sanitation workers, a process that should wrap up shortly.

The procurement process for new machinery has officially kicked off, but don't hold your breath. We’re hearing unofficially from sources within New York City that things are moving at a snail's pace due to those ongoing global supply chain headaches. It's the same old story.

If you weren't being so lazy, maybe you would have actually finished reading the article.😁

You pointed out that part where the people in charge are making excuses. No one ever claimed things were perfect under Bernie Sanders; there were always issues with trash pickup, but now they’ve reached a breaking point. A year should have been plenty of time to make some progress, yet they somehow managed to make everything worse.😁

The new Sanitation Department leadership under David Vance has started taking steps to address—or at least try to mitigate—the trash collection issues in New York City, but since they haven't actually followed through to completion, we aren't seeing any real results yet.

New Yorkers are clearly losing their patience because the piles of trash are starting to smell, especially on those hot summer days, and it’s honestly ruining the city's image. One thing is certain: don't expect the Sanitation Department to get this under control anytime soon.

frozenraven22 said:My trash gets picked up right on schedule, so clearly the system works perfectly.👍

That’s just not true. Trash collection is a mess in most parts of the city. The system has never been worse.

New York City is buried in trash, and the Department of Sanitation doesn't have an answer yet.
Eric Adams - Mayor of New York City, Part 4 in Political Scene ·
frozenraven22 said:I’m glad to hear you conducted a survey with a representative sample of citizens regarding whether their trash is picked up on schedule... Or maybe you didn't?

Assumption is the mother of all screw-ups. 😁

For what it's worth, Eric Adams and his crew pick up my trash right on time, and they manage my local agency perfectly. 👍

There's no need for a survey. Both the mayor and the head of Waste Management have already admitted there are pickup issues, but feel free to keep repeating your claims. Go ahead and try to debunk them.😁

darkhawk30 said:I don't know the exact deal with the soap and toilet paper, but the fact that the subways were filthy inside and out long before the current administration took over isn't just my observation—everyone else in New York City noticed it too.😕

They claim things are even dirtier now.
But people also say there are fewer and fewer running. I rarely take them myself, so I can't speak to that personally, but an official from the MTA is making the claim.

He claims it’s become standard for streetcars to run without working signals. “It’s common now to see cars heading out without signaling. They’re just coming straight from the depot (Mississippi River area), and the schedule has been cut from 94 down to 87 daily runs due to rising energy costs and the pandemic. Out of those 87 scheduled trips, anywhere from a few to ten cars fail to run every single day because they can't be repaired and there are no spare parts. Public procurement has essentially ground to a halt; nothing is being ordered, and nothing is happening. The MTA isn't just struggling—it's completely paralyzed,” Smith concludes.

Alex Moore3 said:We’ve all heard your epic saga about fighting with the local neighborhood council, but feel free to keep giving us those little reminders.

I should also mention that my trash gets picked up regularly at both my drop-off spots. Plus, since the TT Group took over, the agency where I work—which is overseen by New York City—has actually been thriving. 👍

I'm sure we're all just thrilled that other city agencies might start flourishing like yours has.
Maybe you're one of the lucky ones when it comes to the trash situation. But looking at how the rest of the city looks, it's much more likely that you're just making things up.
Just look at what John Doe is saying. His claims can actually be verified, unlike yours.😁

“Whatever you claim is missing, you won't be wrong about—it's the truth. We haven't had soap or toilet paper for at least two months, if not longer. But even more concerning is the lack of spare parts for the buses and subways, no replacement glass, no signal signs, and not even enough cleaners for the vehicles... Our transit has never been this dirty, and we're short on electricians and drivers too. Everything is missing, from staff to parts to basic hygiene supplies,” said Doe.

Charles Carter4 said:Why shouldn't Eric Adams fire him when the guy is clearly out of his depth? Honestly, what kind of qualities was he even looking at when he brought him into New York City in the first place? 🤔
If he had the guts to clear out those two from Berkshire Hathaway, he could definitely do the same here—it would actually show he’s paying attention and genuinely wants to fix the mess.

It’s telling that he's pushing out capable people with proven track records while bringing in underperformers who get a massive housing stipend on top of their salary. Not to mention the official car and a driver to take them home. Apparently, there’s plenty of money for all that, but suddenly there aren't enough funds or parts to handle the absolute mess with Waste Management.

Here is a bit more insight into what citizens actually think about the Mayor and his "talented" crew.😁

If there were as many Republicans in New York City as there are unhappy citizens right now, their candidate would easily pull in over 200,000 votes.
But who knows. You're supposed to be the analyst who knows both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party inside out. Based on your history, you used to claim the same about them, too. Looks like you just switched sides.😁

If your drawing skills are anything like your logic here, I doubt I'd understand you either.
It’s possible more and more residents just aren't seeing eye to eye with Mayor Adams lately.
Later. 🙂

darkhawk30 said:I wasn't talking about the citizens; I meant the employees at the Sanitation Department. Though, since you're already casting them as suspects, I wouldn't rule that out either.
Someone mentioned the other day that a truck pulls onto their street, does a full loop, and leaves without picking up a single thing.

I can just picture the sanitation workers jumping out of the truck to check the final State Department election results first. They zoom in on a map of the neighborhood, and once they see that TT didn't pull enough votes here, they hop back in the truck and leave the overflowing bins right where they are.😁😁😁

darkhawk30 said:Regardless of how many people vote for Eric Adams, it's an undeniable fact that the city went downhill for decades. You can't fix decades of decay in a single term.
I still maintain my view: certain areas are pure chaos because supporters of the former mayor are doing everything in their power to cause maximum disruption just to blame Eric Adams and his crew. Meanwhile, things run smoothly in the parts where people actually show up and do their jobs conscientiously, regardless of who holds office.

This is a whole new level of paranoia.
I almost believed the theories about the old guard at City Hall and Berkshire Hathaway planting clips, but suggesting that citizens are intentionally sabotaging the Mayor is just... wow.😁
In my neighborhood, things are definitely better, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's any less chaotic than other areas. Feel free to name a single neighborhood where you don't see issues with the Sanitation Department, Central Park, or Broadway.

you’re stuck with Eric Adams for another three years, dammit... nothing's changing, no matter how much people were hoping for a miracle

That's funny. I thought you were supposed to be facing elections in 3 years too?
Apparently, that's actually possible.☕
The worst ones are the people trying to scare us into thinking we'll regret our vote. They don't care about our actual issues, yet they act so certain that we'll end up crying over whoever takes charge and becomes responsible for those exact problems a year from now.
So, a little advice: take a breath and just focus on picking the best mayor this Sunday. Pick the one who works for you, not for those of us who don't live in Miami.

We were all waiting for Bloomberg to kick the bucket, only to see him replaced by some NGO activists with zero real-world experience. Honestly, I don't know who in this dysfunctional mess of a country and city is actually excited about elections...

You've got a point there. I'm not expecting us to make a great choice either.
But it's definitely possible we could at least clear out the incompetent crowd.

Is there any chance the mayor might step down because people are fed up?
Just a heads up, summer and those heatwaves are right around the corner. People are already pretty frustrated. And at the end of the day, voters decide things, not people on an internet forum. Ask someone in Indianapolis. 😁

vividraven79 said:Even if everyone refused to back their budget—which, honestly, is what every single council member should do since the Green Party is one vote short of a majority—Tomašević isn't going anywhere. The council just gets dissolved instead.

Exactly. And if there were new assembly elections, the Green Party would probably pull an even bigger win.
People would definitely believe their lies over what's actually happening right in front of them. 😁
