Pro tip: before you go standing in a massive line, file a request so the registry can prepare your paperwork in "just" a few days.
I’m moving this post—link right here—so I don't clog up the main thread, but it honestly eats at me how superficial our government is when it comes to implementation.
- The mandatory re-registration process and the way they handle it—expensive and totally outdated.
- The IRS portal—looks great on paper because you aren't wasting time in lines, sure, but the second you need to submit an IDD, the whole thing falls apart. It isn't available digitally, just like how the IP wasn't (fine, that was temporary).
- The digital Social Security interface—great, until you get an Error 88 correction; then you're stuck driving down to a local branch in person.
- The digital Treasury system for submitting TSI and GF—even better, except if you happen to be a sole proprietor and hit an error, you're back to traveling to an office again.
The common denominator here? This service
comes with a fee, even though it actually reduces the workload for those agency employees. It would be more logical to incentivize users who use the digital tools rather than penalizing them.
