jadenomad24 said:And doesn't the IRS portal pull data directly from accounting software? I'm asking because, up until now, I've been handling everything for a small business—sales tax, payroll, etc.—using nothing but standard Excel spreadsheets instead of actual accounting software. Does the system still allow for that approach, or am I stuck needing a program now?
From what I gather, you can totally still do it. The main difference is just how you file the forms. Whether you want to manually type out every single column or not... well, nobody's actually banned us from doing it that way yet. Just kidding, go ahead and keep transcribing everything by hand. (Though, honestly, being able to fill the whole thing out with one click 🙂 ) is much nicer.
jadenomad24 said:Can I use the same digital certificate from the IRS portal for two different companies? If I go that route, am I going to have to apply for a separate IRS digital ID for each individual business entity? Or is there a simpler way to handle this??
I don't see why not. If I’m following correctly, you just need to file a power of attorney with the IRS to get authorization, and then you can manage whoever you want.
From what I've seen—everything runs smooth as butter, transfers perfectly, and those little loading icons that drive you crazy? They only flash for maybe 4 or 5 seconds. Honestly, at first, the app wouldn't even launch. It kept throwing some error about a missing certificate or something equally annoying. It drove me absolutely nuts all day. I’m definitely not one of those tech wizards who knows their way around Java or all that complicated software downloading stuff... then it finally clicked. Turns out my Chase security token doesn't play nice with Firefox (which is a tragedy because I'm a total Firefox loyalist), it only works through Edge. Then I realized my Wells Fargo reader also has a vendetta against that browser. But once I switched over to Edge? Everything worked flawlessly. I just popped the card in, sent the payment, opened everything up... zero errors.
🙂 hehehe, I’ve been sitting here reading through all this... honestly, it’s kind of wild how some people just refuse to throw in the towel. Personally? I think there's some dignity in just taking the L once in a while. It frees up way more time for family and those... uh, spikes... oops. Anyway, coffee's on me! cheers!
So, I finally logged into this new IRS portal today, and man, it’s weird. It feels just like Facebook. All they need now is a newsfeed and some status updates. I honestly thought it was going to be straightforward, you know? But no, it’s all trendy and overcomplicated for no reason. I am genuinely curious to see how anyone is actually supposed to navigate those tax forms without losing their mind.
Welcome back, Dubo. Look, Tone, I’m with you, but maybe we have to wait until the whole thing completely hits rock bottom before anything actually changes??? Okay, maybe I'm being dramatic, but honestly, I am just so sick of this endless cycle of nothingness. The only things keeping me going right now are the fact that summer is almost here and a tiny, desperate hope that tomorrow might suck slightly less. But hey, I'm not giving up—not yet. I lost my faith in every major institution in this country a long time ago, so at this point, I’m basically just putting all my bets on my own trusty old workhorses.
😂 So, your non-tax stuff is a total mess—mine finally settled into place after November.
Btw, thanks Henry Edwards33, just caught your reply. I finally filed my taxes today, and honestly, my head is spinning so much I’m already dreading the next quarterly filing. 😍
I know I’m probably being a total bore here, but filing my sales tax paperwork by hand was actually the easy part. Now I’m stuck in this weird limbo where either the clerk doesn't understand a word I'm saying, or I've just completely lost my mind.
So, basically, looking at the annual totals for sales tax, let's say $967 is what I should be getting back as a refund. But whenever I actually owed money, instead of giving me a refund, the clerk would just unilaterally move those credits to other accounts where there was a balance due. To deal with this mess, I started trying to file with zeros in columns V and VI.
Well, the IRS flagged me for a logic error.
Now I'm stuck. This is how I was thinking of laying it out to make it look right, if this makes sense:
IV. -2900.00 (after subtracting the IRS amount from what I owe)
V. 3000.00
VI. (TOTAL DIFFERENCE) 0.00—and that zero is only there because I technically "received" my refund through the clerk's manual transfers. Honestly, I feel terrible even talking to the tax office about this, but I really need someone to set me straight. Please help.
dubo, seems like everyone’s getting a little worked up lately. I’d go so far as to say I’m actually worried—or at least, I’ll act like it—that they might try to censor your posts on this forum. Or maybe just demote you to a low-level user! 🙂
Honestly, your takes on pretty much everything have actual substance; they're a hell of a lot more interesting to read than the usual junk. Maybe it's because I usually vibe with your worldview, but hey, there will always be "those other people." It's a sad state of affairs when someone else's misery is the only thing making them feel good. You’ll power through these rough patches just like the rest of us travelers. Until then, don't back down. Just keep doing your thing, with that classic Southern grit. 🙂
Speaking of logic, if you go hunting for it in our legal system, don't hold your breath. You won't find much.
Liti, welcome back! Hopefully you'll be jet-setting around the globe again soon. How’s the book market looking over there? Is it as much of a headache as it is here?....
I'm stuck on something, and it's driving me nuts. Even when I'm just sitting down for coffee, I'm worrying about this whole "splitting tax deductions" thing. What does that even mean? I sort of get the gist, but not really. This year, instead of my usual 25% business expenses, I actually had a few tax-exempt purchases—you know, those 0% expense items (which are basically peanuts, at least in my book 🙂 ). Everything I ordered or bought was strictly for running my hospitality and retail business. So, do I actually need to perform this split? And since I read way too much, I really *do* need to know. Does anyone have a link that explains this in plain English? Like, for a total amateur? The IRS hasn't put out any clear guidance yet this year, or at least I haven't seen anything helpful on their site. I'm begging for a little help here because the thought of messing this up is giving me anxiety. Thanks a ton.
How often does an owner actually get hauled in just because they’re swapping out a sick employee—especially if you’re like me, stay on top of things and don't mess around with the IRS???? I mean, they basically survive off people like us, dammit. Not every inspector is a total moron. Now, when I really think about it—even though I still get those little jitters (I hate it when they start counting my blood cells; you always end up with too many or too few white blood cells 🙂)—I’ve actually had pretty decent experiences. Seriously.
Besides, if you can't find a way to make it crystal clear that you're doing everything by the book, what's the point?
Best of luck, I’m definitely jumping on board with those wishes... and thanks Henry Edwards33 for providing this little corner where we can all just vent—it’s pretty obvious we desperately need it. 🙂
☕Ugh, excuse me while I grab a quick coffee... I’ve been procrastinating like it’s my full-time job lately. Honestly, I am running away from my books like they're haunted. My productivity levels have hit an all-time low—basically zero. ☕ I’m still lurking here every single day, though. Seriously, I don't think a day goes by where I haven't clicked on Poduzet,rač... search! In the meantime, I’ve just been busy baking cookies and making homemade tortellini from scratch. And yeah, there is flour on basically everything I touch right now 😍, so if anyone's hungry...
Jessica Grant56 said:Ugh, honestly... I'm just exhausted by you guys... Just kidding, I'm not part of your crowd—you all are basically the decorative ornaments of this profession (well, except for the Government, they don't really fit in here...). But man, things have been piling up lately—not even your stuff, I handle that on the fly, but I just haven't had the energy to check the forum. It’s always the same faces pushing the same old nonsense regarding software, and it's getting pretty obnoxious. So, just to throw a wrench in their gears, I’ll give them a little taste of Genesis. When it comes to them, I'm generally fine with it—the Max Planck Institute has sorted out quite a lot—EXCEPT:
They drive me absolutely insane so often... they change the accounts used for posting, like mixing up my 76010 and 76020, or then 71010 and 71020, etc.—basically posting everything to the wrong account. And this happens even though I wrote everything in perfectly; I don't touch the parameters at all. Just to clarify: I manage several virtual warehouses and some main ones (where we pull stock from the main warehouse to the virtual ones for sales). So yeah, it's a mess.
Of course, this error is easy to spot because, say, an INVOICE (for services) suddenly shows up under an INVOICE DELIVERY account, when it should have gone to a different warehouse. And it takes no time at all to fix. It's always the same thing: the parameters on the "current" document get changed... while the master settings remain untouched. It looks like Pupil knows what the issue is, but they can be a bit incompetent and won't bother digging too deep. Naturally, none of this would ever happen if there was only one single warehouse.
And I think our next big topic needs to be: the connection programs with the IRS. Are we slowly moving toward total control...?!? According to Pupil, they're working on it and are already in an experimental phase, but I'm more interested in how much they're going to fleece us. They're already dreaming up ways for the IRS to shake us down for various certificates and "services." God help us...
Some things never change. New people show up, and the old guard feels like they're just spinning their wheels—which, let's be real, they are. But what can I do? I need someone to tell me three hundred times that I can take shortcuts whenever I want. Because that's just easier for me. I make mistakes day in and day out, and sometimes I hope that if I just sweep the trash under the rug, everything will pass unnoticed. Maybe I'll learn something from it. In the process, I lose my mind and wonder if I'll ever be able to just follow the manual instead of constantly improvising. I used to have an accountant who was also just a human being and made mistakes, but she knew how to polish those errors so they looked pretty. I don't have that skill, so I'm acting like a total maniac, I swear. And once the business finally starts booming, there's no way I'm messing around with this anymore. Fine, I'll handle the inventory, but I have to do *something*...🤣
As for the controllers and the tax Big Brother situation, I'm lost too—the retail software is practically garbage; we need to get better tools... ugh... everything is changing. But hey, I've wandered off onto a different topic... sending coffee to everyone!☕
Hey, hey, I’m coming! Two large macchiatos, extra hot? Yeah, that’s basically how I kick off my mornings. Honestly, inventory management is driving me absolutely insane right now. We ended up in the red, and I've spent days hunting for the glitch—thank God for automation, but apparently, it failed me, so now I'm looking at restarting the whole process from scratch. I'm pretty wiped. So, please excuse my disappearing act later this evening. I usually head out around 9:30 PM to pick up my little one from daycare. 😬
ruggedcyclist74 said:Where did all our coffee shops go? I suppose everyone decided to just grab their lattes and head outdoors for some fresh air instead???? 🤷
We’re even missing a cookbook... 😲
Oh man... looks like I pulled an unexcused absence today... amberbadger17 was up way too late organizing books... my brain is basically mush right now... totally slept through my alarm. Currently sipping on some caffeine, so if anyone wants in...☕
hmmm... I keep bugging you accountants over coffee here, even though my actual job has absolutely nothing to do with bookkeeping. But hey, someone’s gotta brew the damn coffee, right? And who better than me, since that's basically my whole life's work? 🤣
And don't even get me started on the booze... I'm handing out homemade moonshine for free. It's got a label and everything—does that mean I don't have to worry about sales tax on those deliveries? 😲
Harold Long21 said:It feels like Slavko Linić just doesn't grasp the core issue here. The government has become this desperate addict, completely hooked on collecting import VAT just to keep its failing systems on life support, yet he’s out there acting like some kind of heavy-handed tax enforcer. It honestly seems like Linić is just padding his own pockets by enforcing this "golden silence," and frankly, business seems to be booming for him.
Honestly, this is a top-tier comment. I noticed the thread went quiet for a second, but Slavko is still out there running wild... what do you guys make of this:
