People are really sleeping on Chelsea tonight. Sure, those Italian clubs might be dominating their own league, but they’re stepping into one of the toughest away matches in this tournament—especially after being out of the Champions League for a few years... that kind of absence definitely leaves its mark on a squad. Besides, Chelsea isn't struggling at all; they've been playing solid football, Hazard has leveled up the talent, and now we get a rested Mata back in the mix. At 2.50, that's a pretty sweet price for a single bet...

2.30 odds on an Arsenal win seems like a solid bet to me—definitely worth a look. Even with some lineup shifts expected, I don't think the squad will lose any real strength. We might see Mannone stepping in for Wojciech Szczęsny after that tough outing against Southampton where he was largely to blame for their lone goal... Mannone actually looked quite sharp against Liverpool and Stoke City earlier on. In defense, we'll likely see Laurent Koscielny return, possibly alongside Santos instead of Thomas Vermaelen/Per Mertesacker and Alex Gibbs. Honestly, I don't see that as a downside—Santos is such an attack-minded defender, after all. My only real concern is if Santi Cazorla sits out, though I'm betting he gets at least one half of action. Arsenal is playing beautifully right now, creating plenty of chances and finding the net, so the vibes around the club are great—meanwhile, things aren't looking too bright for Montpellier.

Steve Bould will be on the bench—and considering how much Arsenal's defense has tightened up since he joined the coaching staff, I doubt his presence will be anything less than a plus tonight...

Eric Fox7 said:Regarding those subjective opinions—claims that Eric Fox7 and Joshua Garcia8 aren't cut out for moderation, or accusations of laziness because they lack some "instinct" for it—I honestly don't even want to dignify that with a response. I'm not interested in sinking to that level of debate. 😉

Like I’ve said many times before, we’re all human, and mistakes happen—it's just part of life. No one is making moves out of malice here. If you see posts that you believe violate the sub-forum rules, just report them, and they'll be dealt with if they actually break the rules. I can't possibly read every single post across every single thread—I'm not a robot, after all, and I have a real life to attend to—so occasionally, things slip through the cracks. Also, dragging discussions about moderation into the University of California betting parlor sub-forum won't be tolerated. That's not how I want to communicate. If there's any confusion or if you have questions, use the PM feature.

As for those controversial entries over in the football this month sub-forum, here is a quick excerpt from the rules:

When posting a parlay or specific pairs, you need to include a brief explanation—the key reasons why you're betting on that specific combo. When we pick a parlay, the assumption is that it wasn't just a random guess; we should have actual reasoning behind it. Since we have those reasons, it shouldn't be an issue to list them out...

Engaging in a discussion (provided it's reasoned) about the parlays is allowed—in fact, it's encouraged.
Commenting on the events you bet on is perfectly fine, provided you stick to the sub-forum rules.

The only thing that doesn't surprise me is how the exact same names keep popping up constantly in threads like these. 🙂

I'm still waiting for aron49 to show up, and then it'll be official. 🙂

True—you always see Eric Fox7 and Joshua Garcia8 hanging around—I guess some people just can't help themselves, right? 🤷 But you're spot on; it's really just our little group of agitators...

You mentioned the rules allow for discussing the games you actually play. Fair enough. It’s just that the thread ends up looking like a total zoo—which doesn't feel much different from the last one, honestly. How is this version any better than what we had before?

Why is it so hard to admit that this whole concept was a bit of a flop—and that most people are only here for the chat and the gaming anyway?

Just take a look at the last page of that famous "Betting on Other Sports" thread. You'll see someone having a high-quality debate entirely with himself back in late July... only to be replaced ten days later by Nar trying to convince Nar that Kiel will have a tough time against Flensburg.

You guys have really outdone yourselves... ☕

Don't you see there's such a thing as acceptable irony? It's like celebrating the heroic way Eric Fox7 exposed that fraud... whereas the irony in my post

Yes, we all have to be obedient followers. 😉 I only got a warning, so I guess I shouldn't say anything nasty about the moderators anymore. Honestly, since the recent changes, this has become a top-tier betting shop forum filled with high-quality analysis in all the right places—and if I had to pick a new betting guru, I'd point to tipa74, who surely wouldn't even be here if not for the superhuman efforts made to improve this forum. The results speak for themselves.

How sassy and mean—ugh, gross, yuck—irony that offends the moderators' feelings. 🙄

Just to turn some attention toward tipa74, who is allowed to post his usual nonsense about player absences. Is this really the level of quality this forum is aiming for? 🤷

Let's take a quick look at the football this month thread, where posts like these are regularly published
zoom-zoom said:The streak continues; Cricium is still 100% dominant on their home turf.

They had a little blackout from the 66th to the 78th minute, blowing a 2-0 lead to end up at 2-2.

North Stand said:Barnsley - Bristol 1:0 FT

Given the massive list of absences and an overall weak roster, even a red card for Barnsley in the 52nd minute wasn't enough to help Bristol secure a point, or even a single goal.

I have nothing to say.

zoom-zoom said:2-1
it was tied 0-0 until the 71st minute... 🙂

Joshua Garcia8 said:Everything went through, and I ended up with 🙂 points—honestly, there’s no need to overthink things; just place the bet and see what happens...

zoom-zoom said:Wait, how did you get nothing if EVERYTHING went through? 🤷

Joshua Garcia8 said:Since you're calling me out... because I didn't bet quite that way, I added one of your pairs 😛🙂

which, naturally, aren't being deleted. I suppose the fact that they wrote something in the previous post gives them the right to keep cluttering this thread. The moderator joined in on the spamming, which was really the main reason we stopped having daily threads... 🤦

Posts like these really should all be cleared out, but that would actually require doing some work. It's much easier to just push everything off the forum by introducing rules for "improvement" (rules they don't even follow themselves) and then just casually dropping in once a week to see what's new. Usually, there isn't much to see—just a bit of chat, some Forum League action or the IMF betting shop, and maybe a post like 74 or a few other enthusiasts. Ah, la dolce vita! ☕

BlabyWhetA-Eastwood Town 1 @3,70 SS

I’ve spotted an interesting little matchup today with some really tempting odds... It's a rematch from the US Open Cup qualifiers—after that first game ended in a 1-1 draw. We're talking amateur level here—pretty much small-town leagues—which is why these odds feel totally disconnected from reality. Especially when you look at Eastwood Town's track record—they've been on quite a losing streak since February. With the home crowd expected to show up in full force tonight—and considering that classic "underdog magic" we see in cup games—a home win looks way more likely than the numbers suggest. Most books are sitting at 3.45, but SS is being bold with 3.70... definitely worth a small play...

Bryan Adams6 said:It'll be in the super tip tomorrow at 2.30 odds

I'm holding off on placing that bet for now. Aside from our lackluster performance and being led by this arrogant amateur, I get the feeling the locker room vibe is totally off—it feels like Stimac is really getting under their skin... honestly, everyone knows what kind of shady character he is. When you see him on TV acting like Don Corleone, hugging the players and getting right in their faces like they're his best friends, while they just sit there with those forced, sour smiles... then you look at the situation with Ivan Rakitić... It’s just my take, but it definitely influences my decision. We'll see how it plays out tomorrow. 🤷

Nicholas Chase34 said:There is definitely value in taking JP Morgan Chase for America. That 3.20 odd they're offering at DraftKings looks pretty tempting...

Belgium being ranked 40th in the world while being set up as such a heavy favorite against the 9th ranked team—in my book, that's a bit strange—regardless of how they've been playing lately.

In my opinion, the odds should have been closer to 2.30-3.20-2.80, so this is a situation you just have to test...

The Value is actually on Belgium—I'm just waiting until tomorrow for the odds to rise before I dive in—though even 2.10 feels like a premium given our current playstyle and the clown we have leading us... ☕

Coventry - Stevenage 1 @2,30 HL

Things are looking pretty messy over at Coventry right now—there's definitely a negative vibe surrounding the club... Last season's second-division side recently let go of Andy Thorne after starting this campaign with three straight draws. I never really clicked with Thorne, if I'm being honest—he always gave off such a loser vibe during those post-match interviews, and his results certainly backed that up.

The team is currently under the guidance of his assistant, Richard Shaw—a true club legend, though he lacks any real coaching experience... He did manage to knock Birmingham out of the League Cup with a 3-2 win after trailing 1-0, which was a nice little spark. However, that was followed by a 1-0 loss to Crewe and a really gritty, uninspiring cup win against Burton that only came through a wild 10-9 shootout... They haven't played particularly well in those two matches. Now, everyone is looking for that first league win to help Shaw secure the permanent job—there are plenty of big names being linked to the vacancy, even though the players claim they want to help him land the role.

Now, you have to wonder how much weight to give those player comments—but regardless, the squad is feeling the heat from the fans to finally perform... Whether it's because they want to support Shaw or they're playing for whoever comes next, I think they might actually put in a good showing today. From what I've seen, the talent is there—it's just a matter of cohesion since there are so many new faces on the pitch. Stevenage should be a manageable opponent—they're still undefeated in the league (though they've played twice in the cups in the last ten days) and aren't exactly powerhouse contenders. It’s about time for that first win... ☕

I honestly don't get it—how is it still so hard to find a decent internet radio station these days? There are endless options out there covering every genre imaginable. If I had to spend my time hunting down similar artists or digging through reviews, it would be such a chore... luckily, I've stumbled upon some great stations—ad-free and with high-quality streams for basically any genre I'm in the mood for—so I rarely even bother with manual searching anymore. I mostly just stick to the radio.

It’s the same deal when you discover a new band or track and notice a specific blog covering them—if they stay consistent, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on their future posts. There aren't many top-tier blogs left, but there are a few gems out there...

Anyway, here is a collection of internet stations that are ready to go in your favorite players.

silverpanther13 said:How do you actually find good albums without wasting your time? For me, reading reviews while listening to clips on Pitchfork has been a pretty solid way to hunt for new music

I usually wait until I’ve actually listened to an album and formed my own opinion before diving into reviews—just to see how others perceive it... it's fun to think, "Man, this critic totally missed how great this record is," or even, "I wasn't feeling this at all, but everyone else is raving about it." It feels a bit silly to read these deep, poetic breakdowns of specific tracks if I haven't even heard them myself. As for finding new stuff, I still rely mostly on the radio, followed by various blogs, podcasts, and Last.fm...

silverpanther13 said:I agree with all of that—I’m just saying it isn't exactly reliable... since someone totally out of the loop might see that The Beatles' Help! opens with the James Bond theme (!) and take it as fact. This site is meant for casual fun and hanging out, not some hardcore database like IMDb.

If we're calling AllMusic a database, then it’s a pretty narrow one—mostly just covers the big-name artists, which doesn't do much for me. I could name hundreds of acts that AllMusic hasn't even heard of, yet you can find a few details about them on Last.fm. Besides, everyone knows everything there is to know about The Beatles—you can find any info you need on a dozen other sites—but when it comes to those niche bands that nobody really talks about, AllMusic is basically useless. RYM is a bit better at tracking down artists, but even they get overshadowed by Last.fm's concept... which is way more useful to me than having every random person rate everything and hand out star ratings—I'd rather not have to sift through all that to figure out what's actually good.🤷
Interestingly enough, the first two both feature "Rolling Stone" in the song title or the artist's name. What a coincidence, right?😁

hiddenskipper14 said:Basically, most music relies on the same core instruments—you can't exactly reinvent the wheel here. Beyond guitars, bass, drums, and keys/synths, you see the usual suspects like saxophones, accordions, violins, or clarinets. Even though those are mostly played via a Roland or Yamaha nowadays, any modern performer sounds their best with a small or mid-sized orchestra backing them up. You see it all the time at NPR pop or urban concerts over at Carnegie Hall... even someone like Britney Spears uses violins, a brass section, and folk instruments during her big shows.

If you want to actually impress your professor—surprise them by mixing classical instruments with modern ones—then maybe they'll think you truly understand music...😁

Now, if you're looking for miracles like that meat smoker pictured above, I'm afraid I can't help you there...

There are plenty of other instruments out there, too—today's musicians (the pretentious ones, anyway) love using all sorts of oddities just to look cool and "different." Here are some "modern" instruments used on last year's album by unknown:
