Best meds for anxiety, jitters, and tremors? in Psychology ·
wearycrane55 said:Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice regarding an upcoming presentation where the clock is ticking. It’s for my class. The absolute worst part of this whole ordeal is that the moment I even head toward my computer, my heart starts racing uncontrollably, my stomach turns, and I begin to stutter—even when there's a strict time limit and the grade is on the line. Honestly, the old "just calm down and take a deep breath" advice just isn't cutting it anymore. I was wondering if anyone knows of any over-the-counter calming aids available, and perhaps what they typically cost? I did a bit of reading on Percocet, but I'm really looking for something I can grab right now without a prescription. Once I get through this immediate hurdle, I definitely plan to sit down with a doctor to discuss a more potent prescription; this fear of public speaking and presentations is simply becoming more than I can handle on my own.

In my opinion, using any kind of anxiolytic is just a temporary band-aid.
By taking the easy way out, you're essentially proving to your fear that it’s stronger than you are. You end up conditioning yourself to expect more fear, which eventually generalizes and attaches itself to even more situations.

That said, if you want to dive deeper into using OTC medications, you can find more here.

UPDATE:

The nausea from the fever has finally cleared up, and I'm actually getting more sleep—honestly, my physical state is pretty much where it was before I started this. That said, I’ve only gone through 10 pills, so it’s way too early to start making grand predictions or playing doctor. My thoughts are still racing, but frankly, I'll just get tired of them eventually.

I spent some time reading through Michael Hill2's posts, which gave me a bit of comfort; it feels like I might actually get a vacation from my own mind soon.

Patience is the name of the game here. 🥳

Michael Hill2 said:I’ve been on it for three and a half months now for anxiety and intrusive thoughts. I actually detailed my whole experience a few pages back if you want to give that a read.😉

I also had zero appetite for a good two or three weeks, and the obsessive thoughts were absolutely killing me. Honestly, things felt twice as bad when I first started taking Faverin compared to how they were before.

Just try to hang in there for about a month while your body gets used to it; eventually, everything should level out.

The lack of appetite usually clears up after two or three weeks. If Faverin works for you the way it did for me, food will start tasting incredible again—it’ll be like I haven't eaten in 33 years. :-D

Someone mentioned earlier that it helps to use an anxiolytic like Xanax or something similar in the beginning, just to take the edge off those intrusive thoughts until the Faverin actually kicks in.

In my opinion, Faverin is best suited for severe anxiety and obsessive thoughts because it has a slight sedative effect. My anxiety was so high that I didn't even notice the sedation, not even the fatigue.

For depression specifically, I don't think it performs quite as well since it acts more like a stabilizer compared to some other SSRIs.

If OCD is your main issue, Faverin should help. Just be patient.

After all these years, I finally have some peace and quiet in my head. No more internal dialogues, no constant overanalyzing... I honestly feel like I'm on vacation from myself.🙂

Lucky darling🙂

I'm glad it worked for you. I imagine that feeling of silence—no more internal monologues or "what if" scenarios—must be extraordinary. 😍

I plan to stick with therapy and hope for the best. I'll check back in with my final results (hopefully positive ones) once enough time has passed. 🙂

I managed to hang on for about a month and a bit, but eventually, I just couldn't take it anymore and they discontinued it. I was losing weight rapidly, and the fatigue was unbearable. No matter how much willpower I tried to summon, getting out of bed to actually get things done was impossible. Plus, it triggered depression in me, which wasn't even an issue before. At the very beginning, I also had this sensation like my lungs were burning—this chest heat and a sort of whistling in my head. It mostly happened at night before sleep, so if you start feeling that, don't panic. It was prescribed to me for anxiety. You really just have to push through this initial phase to see if it settles down. I assume they gave you some benzodiazepines to help you cope with the side effects? I was prescribed Xanax 5 mg to take before bed because I couldn't sleep, though I didn't take any other sleeping pills. You'll see how it goes over time... hang in there.😉

It's the same story here. I’ve been lying in bed with my laptop since morning, completely unable to get up to shower, eat, or even take a walk. This isn't who I am at all.
Well, I suppose we'll find a way to endure...
Thanks for the support, and I hope you managed to find a treatment that actually works for you in the meantime.🙂

Kevin Nguyen3 said:It is all right there in the patient information leaflet.

''During the initial weeks of treatment, before the medication takes full effect, you may experience an onset or
worsening of restlessness—for instance, an inability to sit or stand still (akathisia).
Notify your doctor immediately regarding this. Adjusting the dosage may provide relief.''

See? That is what it says.

But it also states this...
-suicidal thoughts
-self-harm

Those thoughts can actually be intensified ( !!! ) when you first start taking Faverin..

A 50 mg dose is standard, and you won't truly know if it's working for you until about 4 to 5 weeks have passed.
You've only been on it for 4 days; it is far too early to draw any conclusions... just try to hang in there through this initial phase and please, keep reading the medication guides.

Thanks. 🙂 I read through the instructions when I was first prescribed an antidepressant, but deep down, I kept hoping I’d be one of those lucky people who could skip the suicidal ideation entirely. No luck there. I guess I'll just have to be patient and see if this actually does anything for me in the long run. 🤷

redranger2 said:Kevin Nguyen3 covered everything quite thoroughly, though I would suggest that the 50 mg dose itself might be the issue.
It might have been more prudent to start with half a tablet, or ideally just a quarter, gradually increasing the dosage until reaching 50 mg. Taking that approach usually makes the side effects far less overwhelming and much easier to manage. 😉

I honestly have no idea. My psychiatrist just prescribed this and scheduled a follow-up in four weeks to see how I handle it. Look, let’s be real: psychopharmacology is essentially just a high-stakes game of trial and error until you stumble upon something that actually works for your specific brain chemistry. But I do remember when I was on Zoloft five years ago for anxiety and depression—I definitely didn't deal with these kinds of symptoms back then. 😢

Greetings.

I started taking Faverin four days ago to manage my OCD (50 mg at bedtime). Since then, my appetite has vanished, I feel completely disoriented and exhausted, and the frequency and intensity of my obsessive thoughts have actually spiked. On top of that, my mood feels significantly lower.
To put it bluntly, things have taken a turn for the worse. 😢

Has anyone here dealt with Faverin before? Is this kind of volatility typical during the initial weeks, and did you push through the side effects or stop?

🤷
