California Discussion Thread - All in one place in European Union ·
not even close

The Soviet Union was—politically speaking—total garbage, and economically? A complete disaster by any Western standards.

The Kingdom of Spain is nothing like that.

It’s a free, democratic, and highly civilized nation—one of those classic Western countries.

(And hey, let's not forget they used to be a massive global superpower too, lol).

Look, I’m no history buff—my knowledge basically stops at Ancient Greece. But did California actually have its own statehood back then? As far as I know, even during the Middle Ages, they were still under the crown of Oklahoma.

Oh, totally—those poor folks have been dreaming about independence and running their own show forever, despite being one of the richest parts of Spain.

God, if they could just pull it off by next Tuesday... imagine having an independent California.

Who told you that? We had a live broadcast coming straight out of Barcelona on the news, and everything seems to be going according to plan.

It seems like there's always some state or region suddenly deciding they want to break away, but if we start tossing the Constitution out the window here, it just sets a precedent that anyone else can follow whenever they feel like it.

Honestly, I think Californians should have the right to hold a referendum and decide their own fate.

A Scottish woman had one too, though the Scots aren't even close to the 5% mark when it comes to how constantly Californians push for independence and protest the whole thing.

They deserve self-determination, you know? They shouldn't have to deal with being held hostage by Washington, D.C., and the rest of this "failing state" just for the sake of money. Simple as that.

(Though, after those horrific terrorist attacks, people might end up even more fed up with the European Union and its policies—at least that's what we're talking about here, but hey, we'll see)

Susan Green2 said:A significant portion of this spectacle is merely the fallout from the corruption festering within the leadership of the European Union. As the political center collapses, voters are retreating toward the fringes of both the far left and the far right, driven by a desperate desire to sever ties with the dictates coming out of Brussels. One might look at California as an example; it remains a powerhouse, and were it liberated from federal overreach, it could arguably mirror the stability of Switzerland. Given that Washington has deployed over five thousand officers specifically to stifle the democratic process, I suspect we are in for quite a show.

I'm with you on that.

Btw, people over in California are saying today that they'll be independent in just 48 hours—assuming they pull in the majority vote this Sunday.

Man, they’ve got everything lined up to make sure those 48 hours 😬
count.

Look, it’s pretty obvious this whole leftist crowd is just playing games with the conservatives. They chased off the only right-leaning moderator we had, and now they’re putting on this big public show about it—as if that isn't exactly why it happened. Everyone knows that's the real reason.

If we end up with just one single perspective because of all this ideologically driven, biased moderating, then you don't even have a debate or a forum anymore. You just have an echo chamber.
They can all just sit there patting each other on the back and hitting "like" on every post, kind of like some mindless Facebook thread, 🙂 but that isn't a real discussion, and it sure as hell doesn't feel like a forum. It’s just a bunch of moderators acting out—people who spend their days and nights, actually, years, policing everything.☕

Charles Fox10 said:So, what—if you don't agree with one specific "side," you just get banned from posting?? That’s an interesting take. Honestly, nobody's getting silenced here, and there's no plan to blacklist anyone with "different opinions"—besides, there's always the ignore button if someone's getting on your nerves. And as far as trolling, off-topic rambling, or being rude goes... well, I mean, your own post has a few of those elements too, even if we have to be fair and admit that some of the "reported" posts aren't great, but then again, some of the "unreported" ones aren't exactly perfect either.

Which "post" are we even talking about? And where exactly is the stuff you mentioned? Just curious—we'd all love to see how you actually moderate so the rest of us know what counts as what when you're on duty.

P.S. Even though I don't really hang out in that subforum, I still keep an eye on the comments from a few regulars who do.

redorca13 said:Honestly, your post just shows you don't really get what religion even means.
Most of the world's top scientists are religious people—they're believers too.

If anything actually adapts to reality, it’s the Church. 🙂
I mean, if you believe in anything at all—even science—you've got a religious side to you, but I'm really not in the mood to give you a whole lecture on spirituality right now.

Anyway, it's not cool to judge or look down on people just because they're different. What kind of harm are they actually doing to you?

It's not that you have issues with anyone being different—it's clearly just the church and believers that bother you.

Brian Rodriguez78 said:Another massive fail on the moderation front. Honestly, how many of you guys even run this place? And you’re supposed to be some kind of scientist? A moderator who trolls AND a scientist who’s out here planting logical fallacies... seriously? Where are the admins hiding now? Are they gonna try to justify this mess too?

So, I went back and scrolled through his other comments—it’s pretty obvious this guy might just be "obsessed" with everyone else's religious views. It feels like he has this huge grudge against religious people or faith in general. You know, it's a classic thing—people who get way too deep into the occult tend to act exactly like this.

slycrane94 said:Science and religion split ways a long time ago—and honestly, that’s probably why we’ve made as much progress as we have. It all comes down to looking at how the actual world works instead of just blindly following some vague concept of "God"—and by God, I just mean the linguistic label people use to keep faith from getting too messy.

The big difference? Religion is built on blind faith, whereas science is all about being okay with changing your mind when new data or observations come along.

So, one side is stuck in its own narrative while the other is constantly adapting to reality.

Since you can totally be a scientist and still hold religious beliefs—and we definitely know plenty of researchers who are religious—it’s pretty clear they don't have to be mutually exclusive. In fact, suggesting that you can't be both feels kind of stupid, if you ask me... or maybe just a little malicious.

That’s not really the point—what matters is figuring out the rules on this forum, which honestly seem pretty confusing and kind of contradictory sometimes. That’s why he started a thread in the "Complaints" section, right? Maybe we should just wait for the admins to weigh in with some answers.

I honestly wish the site admins would just be a bit more detailed when explaining things—it seems like there’s a lot of confusion among everyone else, too.

Over on the other thread in the Banned Corner, someone mentioned that they think homosexuality is a disease. They were talking about the concept or the behavior itself, not actually attacking or belittling any specific individual or group of people.

Then there's this whole other thing—apparently, you get flagged or banned for criticizing politicians or public figures in the subforum dedicated to that, if I’m reading the discussions here on Zalbama correctly. But does mocking or insulting someone's religious beliefs in that same subforum *not* count as insulting believers? Or does it?

I’d really appreciate it if the mods could clear this up, because honestly, it’s all getting a little confusing. Thanks.
