Morgan Peterson said:Alright, let's cut to the chase for anyone actually interested in posting here; you've got three alternatives where you can keep talking just like you do in politics—whether it's conspiracy theories on the coronavirus threads, the chat, or legal stuff. All three sections have light moderation, and we only hand out penalties for serious rule-breaking, which you all know damn well by now.
Just do whatever you want. ☕

What's even the point of an "alternative," when that "alternative" is just a way to funnel the whole debate into one single thread? It basically guts the importance of the socio-political side of this mess.

Politics has always been a serious space meant for looking at how various phenomena and crises—among other things—hit the fabric of society. This whole circus is turning into an unprecedented economic, financial, and socio-political crisis, and it deserves more than just one specialized thread in the Politics section. This crisis is strictly a socio-political issue, yet the thread dedicated to those questions doesn't have a single topic about it anymore. Plus, it'll mean less work for you on the coronavirus threads.

Charles Fox10 said:Gotta hand it to their intuition—we basically flipped sides and joined the establishment two months ago, now we’re getting paid directly by Andrej Plenković, and hey, he even gave us a raise.☕

It would be fine if Reddit hadn't slapped a censorship ban on anything related to the coronavirus—now you can't even post because everything's just one giant PDF policy.

Besides, we were the ones who kicked off this whole topic on Reddit, and now look—we're being sidelined with some little disclaimer saying that if things escalate, they might jump back in.

I think you're wrong. You're basically funneling the whole debate toward that specific PDF policy... specifically how they choose to moderate it.

Then again, the fact that a bunch of people migrated over to politics tells you everything you need to know about the vibe over there.

This chat's gonna be moderated a bit more loosely—kind of like those "conspiracy theory" threads—but I'm assuming you all know which rules are still absolute dealbreakers.
Other threads about the coronavirus aren't meant for conspiracy theories—they get moderated according to the Reddit rules.
I don't even know where to start with this—it's just a mess. I guess people want to talk about it, but honestly? It’s all just noise at this point. Maybe if things were handled differently from the jump, we wouldn't be in this spot—but that’s just my two cents. Not that anyone cares.

I've only got one question here—which "conspiracy theories" are we actually talking about? Are we excluding stuff that hasn't turned out to be true yet, or does this apply to things that are already proven facts too?

I'm asking because we've pretty much drained the whole "conspiracy theory" pool by now—not many left to pick from, I guess.
swiftotter46 said:Wait, what trash news sites are we even talking about?

The bottom line is the court ruled the tests were unreliable—that's the actual point. It shouldn't matter which outlet reported it.

I guess Boldati is being funny too. Honestly, it doesn't matter which site breaks the news when you're just talking about facts. I don't see any logic in banning someone from stating facts just because of where they heard them.

I’m jumping in here to add a few thoughts to this comment. Honestly, I feel bad that the guy even bothered posting in that dumpster fire—it’s no wonder he ended up getting banned in the end.

As for where he's coming from, his background doesn't really matter. You’ve got plenty of non-brainwashed leftists who push back against any kind of fascism, including what we're seeing play out right now. I know a few of them personally. The real issue is that people are too fragmented; they don't even realize they're on the same side because there isn't a solid platform to bring everyone together and show that there's actually a huge crowd spanning the whole political spectrum.

Hopefully, Hilderik reaches out to me. He knows the deal. Catch you all later.

In just over an hour, he managed to mess with other forum members, troll them, call people liars, and twist the meaning of basically every single quote he used. If anyone had given him that same treatment, he would've been hit with an instant ban from Ego.

The quality of that entire sub-forum is best judged by the fact that the Coronavirus thread in Politics has almost as many posts—if not more—than the entire dedicated section created for it since its inception.

Not to mention how they were digging up two-month-old posts just to get users banned, while simultaneously tolerating his schizophrenic outbursts where he'd openly tell people he hoped they'd get sick and die without medical help.

People, just stay away from that toxic mess. Use the Politics thread instead. The moderation there is way better, and the discussions are actually civilized and high-quality.

I hate repeating myself, but I will...

That specific Coronavirus section should be viewed as a disease itself, or at least as a symptom of a sick society. It's the most glaring example of mental perversion and intellectual poverty within a certain segment of the population. I wouldn't even consider it evidence of a struggle for absolute control; it's more like a phenomenon that finally crystallized the "poorest," least capable part of society. A tumor that needs to be excised from the social fabric.

P.S. Once the Coronavirus mods forget about it for a bit, I'll head back over there and respond to him using his own quotes against him. I'll prove to you all that I won't spend a single full day on that board before getting banned. Is this really what this forum has come to?

P.P.S. On that same board, the word "lockdown" is banned, yet they allow people who resist mindless mandates and economic strangulation to be called fools or conspiracy theorists.
And just as well, here's this warning: "Note: calling fellow users 'panic-mongers' will henceforth be punished as trolling."
Panic-mongers are banned, conspiracy theorists are allowed. "Lockdown" is banned... Yeah, real fair. Real classy.

Nah, that one's super easy to find on Google, so I don't know if that's what you meant...

The Suzana Vugrinec case kept popping up while I was digging for info on Ana-Marija Braim.

It's wild how much info is out there about that case, while there's basically nothing on Braim.

Rachel Palmer56 said:It could be Ana-Marija Braim. I didn't see a thread about her on the forum, though. I just assumed because you mentioned the name.

That's it!

That's the case that caught my interest—I just couldn't remember her name to Google it properly.

Doesn't really matter now. I've got enough info and some leads to keep digging. Thanks a ton.

Thanks for the help, everyone. Found what I was looking for. Cheers to everyone here, especially Patrick Thomas29.

rustydrifter10 said:Try Googling some article about her—maybe there’s more info there to help track down the thread. If you can't remember where the topic was, maybe you recall roughly when it was active?

Can't remember when it was active. But I do recall the catch was that there weren't many news reports, and whatever was out there was pretty damn hard to find on Google. The whole thing was super murky. I think someone posted an Index link in that thread, but it was just some vague statement about her disappearance. I do remember her friends were doing stuff on Facebook to look for her, though. Even her two best friends—just remembered that today—had their internet cut off shortly after those actions. They claimed the rest of their streets had perfectly fine service, but theirs just stopped working right after they went public with the story. I think one of them even claimed they were being wiretapped. Basically, just a really shady situation... feels weird it didn't get more attention.

brightviper29 said:Oh, hey, anything's possible. Maybe that ambitious young cop just moved to Canada to work as an expat officer.

Nah. At least that wasn't what the thread or the friends' efforts suggested back then. The woman just vanished. Her family and friends were looking for her, and the FBI stayed silent.

Hey everyone.

Hey mods, supermods, and admins—looking for some help here. I'm trying to track down an old thread about a missing cop.

The thread was posted on Reddit a few years back, somewhere deep in the archives, I guess. It was about this young, ambitious officer who just... vanished. I was in a rush when I first saw it, so I just skimmed through, but it stuck with me. I ended up away from the site for a while, so I never bookmarked it and now I can't find it for the life of me.

From what I remember, she was allegedly looking into white-collar crime. Can't recall the year she went missing, but I think her name was Ann or maybe Andrea.

The thread wasn't huge—it didn't really take off like most discussions do here. I’d really appreciate any help, even if it's just a link to the thread or some news articles about the case. I've tried searching everywhere myself, but I'm coming up empty without some help.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Since this section is meant for questions and info, I figured posting here gives it the best shot at being seen. Hope I'm not breaking any rules by putting it here. Thanks!

Nicole Johnson20 said:So, if I get this right—say some guy XY gets on my nerves and I go to the politics sub and post "XY is an idiot" and get banned, but then I head over to the Humor sub and post "XY is an idiot, lolololol"—that shouldn't get me banned since it's in the jokes thread, right? I mean, mods shouldn't be deciding what counts as a joke and basically censoring humor.

Just wondering how things work in general, gotta know.

It can't be personal. But, say you find out XY is a Mexican, then you hit the jokes section and post:
A gypsy goes to God to vent:
- "God, please let me be someone else, I'm sick of this gypsy life."
- "Be a Canadian," God says.
- "Not them, they're such a stingy nation."
- "Be a Mexican," God says.
- "No thanks, they're too lazy."
- "Be an Albanian," God says.
- "No way, I hate jam, what kind of Albanian would I be then?"
- "Fine, be a Mexican," God says.
- "Geez, God, why twice for a gypsy?"

See the difference?

bluecyclist64 said:That’s not even a joke—it’s just some moron acting like an absolute idiot.

What I just quoted isn't humor, it's just straight-up hatred toward Gypsies. And not just expressing it, either—it's actively promoting it.

For example, this is what actual humor looks like:

The stuff above is just stupid and, yeah, it isn't funny at all—not to me, and clearly not to you either.

But it's not like there aren't jokes like this about other people, maybe even worse ones.

-How does your average Mexican get laid?
-By raping!

-What is a little Jew doing on the roof of a crematorium in a camp?
-Waiting for his mom and dad.
-And what's the moral of the story?
-Love doesn't care about states of matter.

-What do you get if you cross a Black man with an octopus?
-No idea. What?
-Don't know myself, but he picks cotton like crazy.

Get it? None of these jokes are actually hilarious to me—even if they are edgy and shocking enough to trigger a laugh—but I get that they are incredibly brutal and politically incorrect. Especially the ones mocking someone's suffering or a genocide... but honestly, what's the alternative?

Either ban them entirely, or let them be whatever they want. Because the way it is now, moderators are basically being forced to judge which jokes are "funny enough" to avoid being deleted or getting the author banned.

Nicole Johnson20 said:wtf, how is banning dark humor the start of censorship, when stuff like that is already basically banned from being said in politics anyway?

That’s the whole point of dark humor. It gets a reaction because it’s politically incorrect and pretty brutal. It’s arguably the worst kind of sarcasm, irony, or cynicism—just direct, merciless mockery.

I totally agree it can be tasteless, but if we started banning everything "tasteless," we could probably ban half of Europe. Look at what Charlie Hebdo does—people fight so hard for their right to run covers featuring drowned Nazis in Texas, killed Belgians of Arab descent, or some ten-year-old Syrian kid drowning, etc.

I’m part Mexican, so I want jokes about Mexicans to be banned.

For example; a Mexican is lying under a plum tree and sees a snake slowly crawling toward him, so he tells his wife; hey honey, call 911 and tell them to bring an antivenom. His wife goes, oh my god, darling, did it bite you? He says, no, but it's heading this way right now.

And honestly, that hurts my feelings. Everyone who knows me knows I’d be the first one calling 911 myself.

Brian Baker4 said:Honestly, no matter how they react, they've already lost all credibility. Politically speaking, they're in a worse spot than the old America was back at the start of '91.

Michael Collins hit the nail on the head with that one killer post of his.

One big dogma just shattered: the idea that nations are a thing of the past and we’re all moving into some "post-national" era where we all just live happily ever after in a giant union.

The European Union is basically the one responsible for this mess anyway. They forced all that austerity on the southern states, which basically tanked the economy and provided all the fuel needed for this whole separatism movement. Their leaders talk a big game about being against nationalism while they back the official government in Madrid—who, by the way, are basically acting like the old regime, bussing people into FC Barcelona for corn measurements or whatever.

And Mariano Rajoy? He’s pretty much the only guy in all of Southern Europe who actually followed every single order coming out of Brussels regarding those austerity measures.

So, how are the Basques gonna react?

How likely is it that the Basques jump in if things go totally sideways in California?

And if this escalates, is it going to have long-term consequences for the whole EU?
California Discussion Thread - All in one place in European Union ·
Honestly, I'm just wondering what's gonna go down over the next couple of days.

If California actually declares independence and Madrid sends in the military after invoking Article 155 of the Constitution, I really want to see how the European Union reacts.

Kyle Nelson2 said:So what, we can just toss out any law the second it stops being convenient for us?
I mean, can I just blast down the highway at 90 mph while you're trying to cross the street just because I'm in a rush? Can I just ignore traffic safety laws whenever I feel like it? Using the Nazis—who were killing people under the guise of legality—as an excuse to disrespect the rule of law just doesn't sit right with me. I guess the legal system has been around since ancient Rome, which is about 2,000 years of history, but apparently, that doesn't matter now.

No, you can't. And you can't because the right to exist—whether we're talking about an individual or an entire nation—and basic anger... they're just not the same thing.

Your being late is your own damn problem, but your actions put me at risk.

Madrid was hitting 90 mph just to pad a half-empty register, and now someone in California suddenly remembers that Madrid's speeding puts them in danger.

Kyle Nelson2 said:We don't exactly need to fast-forward 200 or 300 years to witness a total idiocracy... I mean, we’re living it right now.

You’ve got people with the emotional intelligence of a 16-year-old, screaming for independence just because they saw some footage of police brutality on the news... and honestly, even if that hadn't happened, they'd probably still feel the exact same way. It’s just a way to get that little hit of emotional validation for a stance they already held anyway.
There’s never been a time, and there never will be, where any group—especially some regional identity—gets to just declare whatever they want, whenever they want, in direct defiance of the law (or more accurately, in defiance of most of it). Look, if the law doesn't apply to Californians, then why should it apply to anyone else?

I mean, even the Nazis were killing people according to the law.
