Vibe check: Room decor and ambiance in Psychology ·
Carl Rivera43 said:So, I’ve been noticing lately—especially during these long summer days—how much more weight a physical space can carry when you look at it through a nostalgic lens. It’s like nostalgia hits way harder in those spots you don't spend much time in during the rest of the year, right?

I actually think nostalgia is always about time, not really about the space itself... isn't it more that we're just aching for the moments we actually lived in that space?

I’m all about those cozy, understated spaces—places that feel simple but have these quirky, unique little details that actually tell a story. I can't stand all that cold marble, concrete, plastic, or metal everywhere. And don't even get me started on rooms that are too dark, too cramped, or just way too loud with those flashy, overpriced designer pieces screaming for attention! Give me some old vinyl records, books on a shelf, a tiny record player, a comfy armchair, an antique lamp, or some old photos and art on the walls. I love old porcelain and those tiny little details that actually have a soul.

Every room has its own energy—it holds onto thoughts, you know? It isn't just about the furniture, colors, or scents; it's also about the people who live there or just pass through.
Some places just leave me feeling totally drained and anxious—I just want to run for the exit! But other spots make me feel so relaxed. Sometimes, I feel like the energy in a room is just blocked, and I end up carrying that heavy feeling with me wherever I go.
There's this one friend's apartment I've been avoiding for years—I won't even show up to her birthday parties! There's just so much clutter everywhere, trapped energy, dust, and zero natural light... even though she's such a positive person, her place just radiates this terrible vibe.
On the flip side, certain spaces are just purely inspiring. A few years ago, when I stood outside Notre Dame for the first time, I actually started tearing up—just from the sheer beauty and majesty of the building. Even though I'm not really a religious person and don't usually step foot in churches, walking inside gave me this incredible sense of warmth deep down, despite the chill you usually feel in those massive cathedrals.
