Monitor buying guide (mega-thread) in Computer Peripherals ·

I need a 24" monitor.

Nathan White8 🙂

Some people claim Dell has better picture quality, even though it's priced the same as the AOC. I ruled out Samsung because it lacks speakers. As long as there are built-in speakers, I don't care which brand they are.
If anyone has a used one for sale, make me an offer. 🙂

Check out one of these instead:

The edge with Samsung is the ergonomic stand; the edge with Dell is a year longer warranty.

Did anyone mention it's 75Hz IPS and comes with built-in speakers? $333

It costs a bit more, but maybe go with this DELL S2421H.

Is the 24E1Q any better for $283
?
Or should I just grab that used one?

Hey everyone,
I’m hunting for a used monitor for my $200
. I came across an AOC M2470SWH, 23.6 inches.

Is this actually worth $187
?
Thanks.
I play some Dota here and there. I just need something that isn't dim and can handle a few games.
Also, it better not be worse than that white Siemens one.🙂

Once I scrape together a bit more cash, I'm just grabbing that AOC G2U with the 144Hz refresh rate.

Since I'm currently stuck using this Fujitsu Display B22W-5
Any new model should be a massive upgrade at this point. 🙂 thanks

Think about it: why wouldn't this eBay seller just buy a bigger 27" 144Hz monitor instead?😁That’s pure nonsense. It’s highly likely that this AOC has some underlying issue that isn't covered by the warranty. People who fall for this kind of logic are just making things difficult for themselves. A monitor that's only a few months old? Maybe they messed something up and now they're offloading it to buy something better.😵

For instance, maybe the AOC has some backlight bleed, but the manufacturer won't call it a defect under warranty.

Keep in mind, for roughly $333 you can just pick up a brand new 27" 1080p monitor. AOC is a staple for 60Hz setups, and there's nothing wrong with that. If you want decent, comfortable gaming, 60Hz works perfectly fine.🍿

27 inches is too big for me.
Maybe something like this instead?

Call them right now and grab this before someone else does.

IPS 144Hz
FreeSync/G-Sync

The one he's selling is only 75Hz. He wants out because he's upgrading to 144.🙂
Is 144Hz actually that much better? Is it becoming the industry standard?

I mostly play Dota 2, nothing crazy.🙂

Hey everyone. Looking for some used gear around the $333 mark. Mostly just gaming Dota 2, nothing too crazy. I’m currently stuck using an old Fujitsu Siemens 22
and thinking about jumping up to a 24. What's actually good for eye strain? 🙂

It’s an older laptop, sure, but it gets the job done. Still way better than those pieces of junk you find for $300.

I picked up an IBM

As for a new one, I was actually asking for a friend. She wants something brand new.
Personally, I'm happy with this one.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Picked up a Fujitsu 710 with an i5 processor and 4GB of RAM for $373
Is this a decent deal?

Plus, they offer sales tax refunds.

Jeffrey Chavez6 said:The first one is a terrible choice. Weak processor and integrated graphics.
The second one is slightly better quality—it has a much stronger processor—but even then, the graphics won't handle any actual gaming.

This one would work fine for what you need, including the occasional game.

You didn't give much info on what you'll actually use it for, but honestly, there isn't much to choose from at that price point.
This would be the bare minimum for basic tasks:
http://www.amazon.com/search?q=M9G95EA
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Lenovo-IdeaPad-1...lo-909951.aspx

HP has a slightly better processor, but only comes with a 1-year warranty, whereas Lenovo offers 2 years—plus, for $33 you get two extra years added on.

That second link is broken.
I can't see that HP
It would be great if I could get a sales tax refund since I'm coming from Canada.

Issues with wireless mouse and keyboard in Computer Peripherals ·
Hey. I’m looking to pick up a wireless keyboard and mouse combo.
The distance from my PC tower to where I'll actually be using them is about 15 feet, but there's a wall in the way...
Is this going to work?
Basically, the computer will be hooked up to a TV in another room for browsing, while the actual tower stays tucked away in the other room...
