@ Donna White50, thanks for such a constructive and helpful post.
I think we’re definitely on the right track here.
The only issue is that this article—much like my own story about my neighbor—seems to be under fire because people are supposedly attacking their "privacy."🤣

Come on, just admit you actually enjoy this kind of thing too. You really do. :z ubo:
As for what I enjoy... I probably shouldn't discuss that on this forum.😛

Quincy:
Instead of being malicious and judging my curiosity regarding psychological disorders, maybe you could help me gain a better understanding of people. :zu bo:
.

Me... malicious?! 😲 I wonder why on earth you think you need assistance. 😉

Quincy:
Perhaps he could be helped.
Wait... him or you? What am I supposed to be here, some kind of neighborhood counselor? 🙂

Quincy:
I don't necessarily need to know the specific diagnostic code, I just want to understand how his mind perceives things, and what impulses or feelings arise when he turns on the faucet. :z ubo:.
Then why not reveal how your own mind perceives it? Isn't everything happening here arguably worthy of a diagnosis? I can't exactly observe your neighbor... I don't even know if the man exists. I only know what you tell me... and frankly, you are far more interesting, mostly because I can actually communicate with you, whereas with the neighbor, I'm stuck with telepathy or relying on you as a sort of broken telephone.

Just imagine if that neighbor were to start a thread on some other forum, claiming that his neighbor (you) is opening threads here asking for diagnoses for his behavior... wondering what might be going on in his neighbor's head. Maybe he likes me and is interested in my installations... maybe he's just acting out without any backbone... or perhaps he has sleep issues or concentration problems... or maybe he's just bored with life and counts raindrops while it pours... and so on and so forth. ☕

And who can say how endless the possibilities are once you open up questions that are actually of vital importance? In this tedious world, devoid of serious problems or existential inquiries, the behavior of neighbors seems to be the alpha and omega of all mental activity. 🙂

And what is YOUR take on this? If I may be so bold as to ask, why exactly do you hold that view? 😉
What is the actual significance of that information to you?
Where exactly do you draw the line when it comes to your own privacy?
Do you happen to have a list of your own medical diagnoses posted and presented on your personal bulletin board?

Lawrence Bailey77, I love you, really, but I don't have any intention of giving a serious answer to everything you just wrote. Maybe it's just that I'm a curious, meddling old lady who happens to be interested in what my neighbor is up to : D . I figured that "THAT" 🤣 might have some fancy little name, something like "pyromania," maybe "water-mania" or something similar, so I could look it up and read a bit more about it. 😬 But I suppose, according to you, even that counts as an invasion of privacy. 😬 Plus, next time I can try to act all intellectual in front of the neighbors by using a sophisticated term for whatever is bothering someone 🤣 (though I'll make sure to mention it's a joke, since it seems you aren't picking up on my sense of humor quite the same way I am : ) .
Anyway, Lawrence Bailey77 showed up and basically "Lawrence Bailey77-ed" my whole thread and me along with it. 😬 Now I really ought to include a proper signature 😬 : Jacob Sullivan10, the diagnosis hunter. And of course, Lawrence Bailey77, I don't exactly keep my own diagnoses displayed at my front door, right? It should be pretty obvious that I keep a little black book where I jot down everyone else's 🤣

We actually have our own individual meter for the unit. The only shared water is down in the basement, which we pay for through our HOA fees.
Lawrence Bailey77 said:Do you honestly think that would be a wise course of action? 🤣

🙂 Just imagine if everyone else treated you with that level of consideration. 😵

Forgive my sarcasm, but really... 😵

The priority here, I suppose, is ensuring Reddit is properly informed about what the neighbors are up to. ☕

There's no need to be sarcastic; it was meant as a joke, which is why I added the :roflko at the end 😁

Come on, just admit it—you probably enjoy this kind of stuff too, deep down 😬 Instead of being mean and judging my curiosity regarding mental health issues, maybe you could actually help me understand people better 😬. I don't necessarily need to know a specific diagnosis; I just want to grasp how his mind perceives things, and what drives or feelings he experiences when he turns on the faucet 😬.

Then there’s this whole business regarding psychological disorders... it seems like it’s become a sort of fashion statement lately. It feels as though every single minor lapse in judgment or outburst of temper has to be categorized under some specific diagnosis—as if everyone requires a label just to make sense of their own behavior. I suppose I am merely asking, though.🙂

Perhaps a little more education and empathy toward the laws of gravity might be in order, ?😵

I suspect everyone else in the building already has their AC installed. I mean, I honestly don't see how he expects to cool down the entire building from the basement just to reach his own second or third floor. It seems a bit unlikely, doesn't it? 🤣 .
I suppose we all have this deep-seated urge to categorize things—to take the unknown, the vague, or even the potentially dangerous and shove them into neat little boxes. It’s almost like a psychological reflex, isn't it? I think we do it just to maintain some sort of illusion of control, a way to feel like we actually have a grip on things when we really don't. But honestly, instead of feeling that need to check in on how someone is doing, I find myself stuck on a much more pointed question. I feel this overwhelming impulse to ask what exactly you're trying to achieve here, and whether your ultimate goal is to drag us all down with you. 🤣 .
rustynomad12 said:It’s not quite right... it feels more like a mild case of neurosis mixed with impulse control issues, because if things just stop—then it isn't really a ritual...
To me, this feels way more like kleptomania...
It’s like trying to soften the blow of an "impending disaster" by actually setting the stage for it to happen...
Just prepping for the inevitable for absolutely no reason at all...

Or maybe it's just a fixation, you know? Like some weird way of seeking "vengeance" against someone or something...

Things have calmed down for now, but only for a few weeks. He went months without anything happening, and then there was that incident in the basement. The only thing is, over the last couple of months, it happened at least once a month 😬. I'm heading back home next week, so when I happen to run into him, I'll try to read his body language and facial expressions. Maybe I'll just go ahead and ask 😬 🤣

who knows,
or maybe they just want to screw everyone over?

So, what’s the deal with him—how do you guys actually feel about his track record?

We don't really have any special relationships in our apartment building; we aren't particularly close. People mostly just communicate when it comes to building matters, you know, just as much as necessary. I haven't actually heard of any major disputes happening here. At least, two of us don't have any issues with the neighbors, and we try to be polite with everyone. Whether he had some kind of run-in with someone else, I guess we wouldn't know. It crossed my mind, but what I found interesting was the detail about him doing this inside his own apartment too. After he was "caught in the act," one neighbor mentioned they weren't surprised because they'd heard from an old friend who used to work with him that he did similar things even fifteen years ago at a previous job. For instance, he'd frequently leave the faucet running in the restroom before heading home from work 🤣. Still, I suppose I don't know if that story is entirely true or what the exact situation is 😬. This whole thing really made me wonder how there are people out there who are firebugs, or perhaps, in this case, water enthusiasts 😬. Maybe it's just his general way of getting back at people; that seems like the most likely explanation to me. Perhaps he's developed a bit of a fixation 🤣
Jack Jones7 said:I haven't heard anything about that either, though it makes sense that people can develop all sorts of fixations or addictions.🤷

It would be strange if this were an obsessive-compulsive disorder, since OCD is centered on control, and this is the exact opposite.
He just lets the water run and heads off to work, leaving everything up in the air. Like that massive flood we saw in the Midwest.

You have a point there. It’s certainly an interesting fixation, 😬. It’s something new for me, but I wanted to soak up some of your ideas so I could get a better handle on the whole situation.😁
The building I live in is dealing with a major headache involving one particular neighbor. This whole thing actually started a few years back, but lately, things have taken a much more serious turn. At first, we just noticed that someone would leave the water running overnight in the communal basement area—you know, where the utility sink and hose are kept for people to clean out their storage units or water their plants. It’s caused several floods because the drains simply couldn't keep up with the volume. Everyone in the building pretty much pointed the finger at one specific guy. The longtime residents had always suspected him because he apparently leaves his bathtub running full blast before heading off to work. I mean, the neighbors have been hearing about this for years; he supposedly just lets the water run all morning and afternoon. Well, after we recently installed security cameras in the hallways and common areas, it turns out he was the only one headed toward the basement one evening. His excuse was that he was just washing his bike and forgot to turn the tap off, though he insisted he wasn't usually the one responsible for these messes. We saw a huge spike in these incidents over the last two months, but ever since he got "caught," the problems have finally stopped. Still, I can't help but wonder what's actually going on here. Is this some kind of behavioral disorder, maybe something akin to pyromania? Or could it be an obsessive-compulsive issue? I don't want to jump to a third conclusion, but I haven't found anything online about this specific behavior, nor have I ever heard of anyone acting like this before. 🤔
Why would someone do this? Any ideas?
