Feeling aimless, unmotivated, and stuck. Any advice? in Psychology & Therapy ·
I’ve spent plenty of time visualizing the life I want, and I have a clear picture of it, but motivation just isn't there. I can't find the drive to start anything, and even when I do, I get bored within two weeks. It might sound strange, but nothing actually moves the needle for me right now. My only real goal is to wake up tomorrow and do the exact same thing. I'm stuck in this endless loop of coffee runs and hanging out with friends. I spend most of my time socializing, though sometimes I prefer being alone, and that’s just how it is.
Regarding work, I've been applying everywhere, trying to find something that lets me work while finishing my degree so I can be financially independent. At 21, it's embarrassing having to ask my parents for gas money or cash to go out. The reality is that nobody wants to hire someone with just a high school diploma and zero experience. I just want a job to break this monotony—something to give me a reason to actually get out of bed in the morning.

I’m not entirely sure why I ended up in this subforum. Sometimes I want some advice or just a conversation, but then again, I have zero interest in talking about my feelings or what’s on my mind.
I’ve spent my whole life avoiding emotional discussions, skipping serious talks, and dodging responsibility. It worked perfectly fine for me until two days ago. I’ve always been a stoic—someone who doesn't sweat the small stuff, doesn't get attached to people, and doesn't care about material things because they don't matter.

Anyone who knows me would tell you I’m as detached as they come.
Lately, it isn't even about being worried; it’s just that I don't know what to do with myself. I’ve fallen into a rut that I can't seem to break out of, or at least I haven't found the way out yet.
Looking back at my life and everything I've done, I've realized I only ever do things because I feel like doing them in the moment, not because there's any long-term benefit.
I don't have a grand life goal, no drive to accomplish anything, and no vision for the future. In fact, I don't even think about the future.
The past doesn't cross my mind either; I just live day to day.
I'm getting tired of this lifestyle, especially regarding motivation. I’m currently repeating a year at my university, and while I know I should study for the sake of my career, I just can't force myself to hit the books. And it's not just school; it's everything.
Whatever I start, I do for a little while and then quit as soon as I get bored.

I've written too much. I won't go into the details since there's already plenty of content here.
I'd be open to some advice.

I read that the initial symptoms include chest pain, shoulder and back aches, along with abdominal discomfort.
Angela Wright said:It takes a longer stretch of poisoning yourself to completely destroy your lungs, but if you keep this up, you've got about a 25% chance of developing cancer along with everything else. If you’re into gambling and want to take that risk consciously, go ahead and keep smoking. Personally, I’d quit now before I get hooked; five months isn't long enough to be fully addicted yet.

Once I felt this, panic set in and I tossed my cigarettes immediately. I thought I was just imagining things, but how else do you explain these intermittent chest pains? Is it possible my body is reacting poorly to nicotine or something else entirely?
Hello.

I'm 22. This might sound ridiculous, but I’m hyper-fixated on my health. For the last five months, I've been smoking a pack a day; before that, it was sporadic—a few cigarettes every couple of weeks, sometimes going months without touching one. Recently, I started feeling this pulsing sensation in my abdomen, which spooked me. I looked up early lung cancer symptoms, and while I only have chest pain and occasional stomach aches, I've also started feeling fatigue in my legs. I doubt it’s anything serious, but I need certainty. If it weren't for my family history, I wouldn't be asking, but my grandfather had throat cancer. Is there any actual possibility of lung cancer here, or am I just overthinking it?
I’ve developed a strange addiction, and it’s sugar. Every time I hit a coffee shop, I’ll grab about ten of those little packets and eat them right there. When I’m home, I just grab a bowl of sugar and eat it by the spoonful. It’s gotten out of hand, and I can't seem to quit.

If anyone has dealt with something similar, please share your experience. My doctors haven't given me much guidance.
On May 28th, I sliced my leg on a bicycle gear. It was deep enough to hit the subcutaneous tissue and cut into the muscle—though I'm not entirely sure how much muscle was actually affected.
I went back to the surgeon on the 30th to have the stitches checked and redressed. He told me to re-wrap it every other day, which I’ve been doing, with the plan to have all nine stitches removed by June 10th. He took a few out already and said I can finish the rest tomorrow; my mother will handle the last ones since she's a nurse. My main issue is that the doctor removing the stitches hasn't mentioned anything about when I can walk again or if I need physical therapy for the muscle. He just told me not to work out, but gave no timeline. A different surgeon—a younger one who seemed less experienced—suggested I could start walking slowly once the stitches are out. I'm looking for some clarity here: does anyone know if I should be starting specific exercises for this muscle yet? I'm honestly lost on how this works.

I started this thread because I cut my leg open, though things seem to be healing alright so far...
I have a quick question about the recovery process. They already removed half of my stitches—I had nine total—and the rest come out this Tuesday. Since I actually sliced through some muscle, I’m wondering if there are specific exercises I should start doing early on to help me get back to walking normally.

I already saw the surgeon. He looked over the results and brushed it off like it was nothing. Still, I’m uneasy because I overheard some doctors mentioning an Achilles tendon issue and the possibility of surgery. That’s what’s sticking with me. This morning, the surgeon just skimmed the report, cleared up the gray areas, and insisted everything will be fine and no operation is necessary.

Chris Diaz said:Hey there. As long as the tendon is intact, I don't think you're looking at any major issues. That said, it probably wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion from a few specialists—maybe even a surgeon—just to be safe. Don't sweat it too much; everything should turn out fine. A buddy of mine went through something pretty similar. You should be back to normal in about 20 days.

Can you actually tell if the tendon is okay? I don't trust our doctors here. I once broke my leg and they told me nothing was wrong except a minor tendon strain and that I could walk fine, but it turned out to be a completely wrong diagnosis.

Good day to everyone.
I sliced my leg open on a bike gear yesterday—pretty deep, actually. I hit muscle, so they had to stitch it up, and now there’s some kind of plastic material left inside. I went in for a dressing change today, but I'm curious if anyone here has dealt with this before. How much did it hurt when they removed the foreign object? What was the recovery timeline like? Any advice to make this easier would be appreciated. 😢
One doctor suggested a surgeon should evaluate whether I need an actual procedure, though he claims my tendons are fine based solely on the report from the guy who stitched me up. He says I don't need surgery and will be back on my feet in about two weeks. I have little faith in doctors, so if anyone has been through something similar, please share.
