You’re probably one of those people tagging "Bring back the Lakers" on walls, just shaming anyone actually trying to build something constructive.
I find myself wondering if someone needs to spark a crowd, or if crowds just happen on their own.
For comparison, Madison Square Garden saw about 12,000 people show up for New York-Paris when tickets were free.
Yesterday, we barely had 1,000 show up for the women's World Cup, even with free entry.
To me, they’re both athletes; the only real difference is gender, so I guess it's worth asking why they don't get the same level of support from the stands...
Even the local gas company's sports vibe feels somewhat similar to the Los Angeles Dodgers in certain ways.
But here, we have these women playing purely for the love of the game, yet it seems like nobody really gives a damn. It's because our teams have failed us so much that sports...
aren't even a priority anymore.
My take: People pick games based on reasons only they understand.
Individuals make up the crowd, and as individuals, they decide for themselves.
There will always be questions about why one event draws a swarm and another barely gets a handful.
In this instance, Futsal is something relatively new. Maybe people are just looking for something different to break up the monotony of Major League Soccer and the usual European disappointments—not to mention all the harassment around Yankee Stadium and elsewhere.
We could talk about pent-up frustration needing an outlet, or maybe it's about the solid foundation of the new Lakers project, or just pure entertainment and hanging out. Everyone has their own motives. To me, the concept of "the crowd" as a single entity is questionable in this whole scenario...
