Did a little testing on Bill Gates yesterday. Moving money from a local US bank account to a local Bill Gates account—it was maybe $20. I think Bill Gates wants to slap on a $0.50 fee. It’s pretty ridiculous. Converting 10 bucks to Euros? Revolut gives you more. Bill Gates tries to tack on another fee, too. Meanwhile, moving funds from a Bill Gates US routing number to a Revolut UK account costs nothing at all.

Well, the Wise website is still showing an American Iban.

I sent some cash over around 11:30 last night using that joint Iban, and it actually showed up by 7:30 this morning. Pretty fast, I guess. I have that same joint Iban set up on Chime too, but there, it usually takes maybe two or three days for the funds to actually land.

Alright, I finally opened a Wise account, so now I'm testing things out. My local Euro account is based in Belgium. Since I’m currently in Switzerland, Wise is requiring me to transfer USD 20 to my account first. I opted to move the funds via my bank. Wise then provided me with a Swiss IBAN, which implies a local transfer. I assume this is just a shared IBAN used by all Wise users here in Switzerland. It seems to work the exact same way on Chime.
Do you guys in America also get an American IBAN when you're trying to transfer money into a Wise account?

Is it actually possible to fund a Wise account using the top-up method, and does that come with a commission fee?

In my book, that confirmation number is the only thing that actually matters—it’s the unique identifier for the whole transaction. Either the Department of Homeland Security has a massive glitch in their database, or you just dealt with some clerk at the window who thinks they "know" how things work when they clearly don't.

Madonna, on my Cash App receipts, it explicitly lists the actual Payer, and that happens on every single one of them. I noticed yours doesn't show that. Either there’s a glitch in the app's interface—because let's be honest, Cash App hasn't exactly mastered perfect localization for all their payment confirmations—or you simply didn't input your own name when you were setting up the payment request. That’s also a possibility, especially considering even the Department of Homeland Security can't see who the actual payer is in these cases.

I followed their website instructions to the letter. I showed them the confirmation, and the lady at the desk walked away to check something, then came back with someone else. That second person told me they couldn't process it. Apparently, it wasn't "our bank." She claimed several other people had tried using Cash App confirmations and failed too. So, they just sent me over to the USPS to pay it all over again $65.

I mean, you can set whatever language you want in the app. Does that really imply they won't accept transfers from overseas banks? That would be pretty stupid. Money is money. I actually sent my payment before I even arrived in the States; I wanted to speed things up since the lines at the Department of Homeland Security in San Francisco are absolutely insane.

It probably comes down to the specific clerk behind the desk. Back in April, when I paid for my ID, the receipt in the top right corner clearly said "Payment Confirmation." Now, every single receipt the app spits out says "Order Received." That’s the only real difference I see, though I doubt the people working the counters at the DMV even notice or care. Like Mephistopheles mentioned, they probably just got some new directive from the Treasury Department.

I was actually standing right there at the Department of Homeland Security service window. They managed to find my payment through AirCash; they even pulled it up on their screen. The issue was that it didn't specify who sent the money. My name wasn't listed anywhere—it just showed "AirCash."

Lisa Perez50 said:@splico73 you aren't the only one. It feels like I'm the only person who actually got my Cash App verification cleared by the FBI on the first try. Everyone else on this forum has been complaining about the exact same headache. Wouldn't it be nice if they just automatically offered that PBZ confirmation instead?

Yeah, so I actually wrote to them about it. They claimed they're working on it.

I'm dying to know if they'll actually accept PayPal confirmations.

I live in Switzerland, where I stumbled upon PayPal last year. It’s been a lifesaver for handling my utility bills and electricity. Since everything arrives via email, I basically just scan them and call it a day.
I ran into some trouble this summer at the local Department of Homeland Security office in San Diego. I tried to pay $83 through PayPal to expedite my ID processing. I made sure to include all the necessary details, like my Social Security number and everything. But they told me they wouldn't accept the payment because they couldn't process it on their end.
PayPal eventually sent over a different confirmation mentioning Chase, which finally cleared it. Still, I had to trek down to the teller window to demand a refund since I ended up having to go to the post office anyway to pay with one of their official forms.
