Relationship insecurity, depression, and anxiety in Psychology & Therapy ·

Man, you aren't alone in this; I'm actually going through something pretty similar myself. Over the last year, I've become incredibly jealous—and the thing is, my wife hasn't given me a single reason to feel that way. It's frustrating because I wasn't like this at all before, but about a year ago, someone very close to me fell ill. Since then, I've been under constant stress, and I suspect that the daily grind of it all is exactly why I've turned into this person. I've been reading stuff online about how jealousy usually stems from being dissatisfied with oneself or having low self-esteem, and I think there's a lot of truth to that. Even though I have my own house, a car, a decent career, a wife who loves me, and three beautiful kids, I still feel perpetually unsatisfied with myself—constantly thinking that everyone else out there is better looking, smarter, more capable, more successful, or wealthier than I am.
The only thing I don't do is take it out on my wife with jealous outbursts; instead, when that madness takes over, I just bottle it up inside, which—of course—leads to my mind spiraling into all sorts of dark places. I don't know, maybe it really is time for me to go see a psychiatrist, because it feels like I've completely lost my damn mind.
