I feel like I’m losing my mind! I just called my mom to ask her for that woman's number, and she is flat-out refusing to get it for me! I already put my deposit down on this one—she’s vetted, she's reliable—and yet my mother won't stop calling me every single day to lecture me about how much I spent on her! It’s not like I’m living in Los Angeles or San Francisco where I have some huge crew or family nearby who could step in and help me out. I am honestly going to go crazy dealing with her...😈
Reading this, I honestly can't understand how she justifies charging $30/lb? 😕 Don't get me wrong, the cookies are delicious (I had some at a coworker's birthday party recently), but once I sit down and actually run the numbers, the math just doesn't add up. It feels excessive. I think I might give her a call this afternoon and just pass on it. Now comes the even harder part: trying to convince my mother that I'm making the right decision...
Arthur Ramirez4 said:That definitely sounds expensive regardless of how you look at it. Honestly, at the hotel where I stay, they serve pastries for about $22 a pound. You should probably just be upfront with the woman and explain that the price was higher than you anticipated, especially since you realized there are much better deals out there and you're trying to keep your budget tight. It's a tough spot to be in, for sure, but that price just seems excessive. Is this more of a hobbyist thing or a professional business?
Yes, it sounds like a home business! Honestly, I wouldn't feel bad bringing it up to my wife (regardless of what my colleague thinks), especially since we aren't making this decision a few days before the event, but two months in advance. If we could find a better rate with this woman, I could put those savings toward some beautiful flowers instead...
Help me out, please... I went to see a lady for some baked goods last Friday—she’s actually a friend of my mom's colleague—and her treats are truly wonderful, but she weighs $30. Is that considered excessive? I'm only asking because my mother "accidentally" mentioned yesterday that her coworker's sister lives over in St. Louis and does wedding catering and supplies two local bakeries for about $17 per pound. Now I'm torn; I feel like backing out of my order with this lady, but I'd feel terrible about my mom. Still, the price difference is quite significant in terms of $13! What should I do? Is it even fair to cancel now, considering I only just placed the request? My dad always says you get what you pay for, but I can't help but hesitate 🙄 ...

That shouldn't be an issue at all. I will send you a number tomorrow after I get off work, provided my boss doesn't fire me first for spending too much time on these forums...🙂

I am trying to figure out if this is just some quirky creation from my local bakery or if it is an actual thing 😕 It tastes absolutely incredible, and I am considering using something similar for a multi-tiered wedding cake 👍 To me, the flavor profile is remarkably similar to a Kinder Maxi King 🙂
A colleague mentioned that his mother used to make a 'the wind from the east' cake for his birthdays. From what I recall, it doesn't quite taste like a Maxi King, but it is absolutely delicious—very light and refreshing. Because of that, I think I will choose it for one of my cake layers. I actually have a recipe for it in one of my cookbooks, so if you would like it, I can send it over via email. Just send me a private message 😘
I recently placed an order for some baked goods through my mother, who does catering for one of my colleagues at work. I managed to find a photo of the exact cake I have my heart set on, but since I am completely clueless when it comes to pastry design, I wasn't quite sure if I should post the image here 😬 Regardless of what anyone might think about the style, I am looking for a classic Ticino cake, accented with a delicate pink ribbon and champagne-colored roses. My mother mentioned she could certainly handle it. She actually bakes for various local fundraisers and events, and I had the pleasure of trying her work when she made a birthday cake for my colleague's son. They were truly exquisite...
I am looking for some guidance or perhaps a solution to a bit of a dilemma. How many individual pastries should I prepare if I'm hosting a gathering for 130 people? Additionally, I am trying to figure out the right amount of cake needed—both for the main event and for what we might serve at home for just the two of us... Thank you 😘
