Does pre-season actually matter? in Fans ·
I feel like we spend so much energy obsessing over these summer friendlies, but half the time it feels like just a glorified exhibition to sell tickets. Does anyone actually care about the results right now, or is it all just noise until the real season kicks off?

hollowpuma762 said:You're playing fast and loose with terms like "logic" and "premises." Trying to label his premise as right or wrong here doesn't even make sense—you're just throwing your own personal vibes against someone else's.

Bravo. Real genius there.

...

What he actually wrote isn't coming from ego at all. It’s the exact opposite.

"Premise" might be more accurate, sure—but your logic isn't necessarily flawed.
Besides, if you deny him the right to have his own take by countering it with yours, you're basically stripping him of his right to an opinion.
So what's left? He either agrees with you or shuts up... and if that's the case, what's the point of even calling for a dialogue or asking questions in the first place?

rapidmason1 said:So, this is really where the core misunderstanding lies.
People tend to conflate the institutions themselves with the faith they represent.
The institutions and their representatives—priests, monks, or even the most devout laypeople—are often out of touch, clumsy, rigid, or exclusionary... and because of that, those specific flaws get projected onto the belief system itself.
At the end of the day, they are just human beings like you and me, and they make mistakes, quite naturally.
Yet, by criticizing them, you are actually acknowledging divine authority.
Because you are operating under the assumption that these individuals *must* behave in accordance with God's rules, which inherently validates those very rules.
You expect them to act as divine representatives.
But why?...

You're implying things I never even brought up, let alone used as an argument.
I didn't even mention my own reasons for walking away from Christianity, so claiming my stance acknowledges divine authority is just logical nonsense.
Question for the agnostics in Spirituality ·
The OP tried pretty hard to dodge any actual theorizing about God or the Bible.

@op
Look, speaking as an agnostic, my short answer is that what you're talking about doesn't actually mean anything. You're just building this massive strawman out of stories about "divine gifts" and other nonsense, then expecting me to wrap it up in some logical framework.
Personally, I have no idea if God—or whatever else—exists. I tossed the Christian version of God aside as nothing more than a tool for oppression when I was 17, after spending ten years sitting through religious education.
On a purely intellectual level, I figure if there is some higher power out there, we aren't capable of perceiving or even understanding it. Maybe we'll evolve enough to get it one day, maybe it'll reveal itself, or maybe there's just nothing at all.
Nick doesn't know, and frankly, the believers probably know the least of all. Their view of the world is so boxed in by dogma that they can't even manage critical thinking.
LED monitors and eye strain in Computer Peripherals ·
Honestly, finding an LED monitor that doesn't absolutely wreck my eyes is becoming a mission. Back in the day—with old-school CRT monitors or those older LCDs that didn't rely on LED backlighting—I never had any issues at all.

The whole LED thing just doesn't sit right with me. Every single one I’ve tested causes some level of discomfort, though the intensity varies wildly. I'm talking everything from screens I can't look at for even an hour, to ones that only bother me when I'm staring at a white background—basically, anything involving reading text.

My old LCD finally kicked the bucket, so it looks like I'm stuck with LED tech now. Is anyone else dealing with this? Any recommendations for an LED monitor that isn't a total strain on the eyes? Price isn't really an issue.
