Grab a test! (For anyone wondering if they're pregnant)

So here's the deal:
Back on November 10th, I went to see my OBGYN. It was just a postpartum checkup since I had my baby seven months ago, and she was supposed to get me started on birth control. While we were chatting, she did an ultrasound, and I mentioned that I was expecting my period in about 6 or 7 days. She told me that based on the scan, it didn't look like my period was coming then, because she saw what looked like a single, normal-sized cyst on each ovary. Apparently, it’s nothing serious or alarming—she suggested it might just be a double ovulation. She told me to come back in 2 or 3 months for a follow-up instead of giving me the pill right then. Honestly, I think I was in a bit of a shock hearing the word "cysts," so I didn't really press her for more details or ask what I should actually expect. Well, it's December 2nd now, and my period still hasn't shown up. I took a pregnancy test about a week ago, and it came back negative.
I know you guys are probably thinking, "If the test is negative, you aren't pregnant," but I don't trust these things 100% because back during my last pregnancy, the test actually read negative too. I already have two kids, and I am definitely not thrilled at the thought of being pregnant again so soon. My second pregnancy was a total nightmare; I ended up stuck in the hospital both before and after giving birth because of complications, so the idea of going through that all over again really scares me. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love kids.
Does anyone actually know what "double ovulation" means, or what kind of "normal" cysts they're talking about that aren't a big deal??!!!
