Please ban me in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’ve just been met with a wave of insults and crucifixion over the topic of age gaps, and frankly, I have no desire to share anything personal with this crowd ever again. Please delete my posts and wipe my history. I am also asking you to Ban me; I’m deeply hurt and disillusioned by the community here, and I want no further contact with them. I truly believed this forum was a space for sincerity and support, but instead, I'm sitting here in tears...

I'm looking for a pen pal or, ideally, someone to hang out with in person. I’m 49 and based out of Indianapolis. I could really use some perspective on what it actually means when life hits you hard and forces you to rebuild everything from the ground up.🙂

Angela Kim said:My mood is all over the place. I feel depressed in the morning, then it eases up by evening—though there’s no euphoria, just constant brain fog and struggling to think clearly. I can't tell if this is the illness itself or just the long-term side effects from psychiatric meds. Not a troll, just looking for some insight.

This sounds like severe depression. My doctor once mentioned that thyroid issues, vitamin D deficiency, or low iron can mimic these symptoms, alongside the depression itself. It’s like running on an empty tank. I wouldn't say I'm having dark thoughts, but I am completely drained. Everything feels like an uphill battle.
Andrew Doyle said:Physical abuse teaches you nothing except how to be a victim: small, helpless, and utterly worthless. It molds you into someone defined by frustration and constant fear. Down the road, this carries directly into your relationships, where you either end up bending over backward to please everyone or you become the very person using force to get their way.

Any parent who thinks they need to resort to hitting a child just to make them "learn" something is fundamentally incompetent and weak. If they actually knew how to lead, they wouldn't have to rely on brute force, dominance, or intimidation just to be heard. And frankly, forgive my language, but screw any kind of "authority" built on terror.

I’m with splićanka on this one. I never laid a hand on my kids or tore them down. I know plenty of people who actually defend that kind of behavior, acting like it’s perfectly normal. Growing up, physical punishment was my reality, and I’m certain I carry the scars from it today. It left me unable to stand up for myself for a long time; I just ended up being a pushover for every idiot who came my way. Now, my children tell me everything without hesitation or fear. They know they can come to me first whenever they need something—something I never felt I could do with my own parents. It's a long story.
What does Psychic mean to you? in Psychology & Therapy ·
Matthew Castillo5 said:I’ve been wondering how being part of the Psychic Reddit community has actually impacted your lives. What was it that first drew you to follow this sub, and what have you actually gained from participating—whether you're actively posting or just lurking in the shadows?

If it’s alright with you, I’ll wait a day or two before explaining my own reasons for starting this thread; I don't want my bias messing with your honest answers. But if you'd rather I just get to the point right now, let me know.

I’m genuinely looking forward to reading your deep dives on this. Thanks in advance for sharing. 🙂

I joined this Reddit specifically because of certain people in the Psychic community. They are resilient, insightful, and clearly handle life's various challenges and illnesses with grace. I enjoy reading their perspectives and seeing how they navigate difficult situations. I hope to develop that same level of composure one day. Your posts often provide the exact sense of comfort and hope I need. My thanks to all the wonderful, open-minded people posting here.
I'm so over these "toxic positivity" people in Psychology ·
Constantly forcing a positive attitude can be exhausting for everyone around you. It feels unnatural, and frankly, it can be irritating depending on the context. I was sitting at a diner with my father when a man approached me and asked, "How are you doing?"
I told him, "Not great, honestly."
He followed up with, "Why's that?"
"My father just passed away," I replied.
I have nothing else to add.😲
10 signs you might be exceptionally intelligent

If you're curious about where you stand intellectually, skip the standardized tests. Instead, look for these specific traits that often point toward a higher-than-average IQ.

Recent studies suggest a complex link between heightened intelligence and struggles with depression or various mental health challenges. From a scientific perspective, there's a reason for this: highly intelligent individuals tend to notice more systemic flaws in society. They don't just overlook the decay of social institutions or the destructive influence of sociopaths in high office. It seems those with average IQs navigate societal dysfunction more easily, while those with superior intellect often find themselves at odds with broken social structures. Let's dive in.

I’m based in Indianapolis. Looking for some company—men or women. Age isn't a factor for me. I happen to carry a bit of a stigma.
Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·
I’ve been reading this forum for two days now, trying to make sense of things. Back when I was 21, I dealt with psychotic episodes following a sexual assault, which led to several psychiatric hospitalizations. Since then, I’ve spent 24 years building a successful career and moving up the ladder. Throughout that entire time, I’ve been on maintenance therapy. Recently, however, my ex-husband weaponized my medical history against me. Following a period of domestic violence, he had me forcibly hospitalized. I wasn't being aggressive; I was simply exhausted by him. He went behind my back to the doctors and spun a narrative that stuck. I was diagnosed with schizophrenia. The truth is, I was fully lucid in that hospital. There were no hallucinations, no voices—just pure resentment toward a system that failed me and the people closest to me. I even tried to walk out. After that hospitalization, I hit rock bottom. With nowhere to turn and no one to lean on, I swallowed a whole bottle of Norvasc. It wasn't psychosis or hallucinations driving me; it was sheer despair and a total loss of trust in the system and my own family. It’s a bitter pill to swallow: an abuser locks me away in a ward while he walks free. He even threatened our children, telling them they’d be locked up too just because they were grieving for me. After receiving that schizophrenia diagnosis, I pushed for a divorce. My attorney sent me to Washington, D.C., for a second opinion and psychological testing. The results came back clear: no psychopathology. The court awarded me custody of the children, while he was convicted of domestic violence and served with a six-month restraining order. The psychiatrist in Washington, D.C., noted that I couldn't possibly have schizophrenia given how successfully I’ve functioned for decades. I despise hospitalization. The trauma inflicted by the psychiatric system itself was devastating. Has anyone else here dealt with forced hospitalization? Or experienced "lazy" diagnosing where doctors just slap on a label? Regardless of what the official paperwork says, I am traumatized. People look at me with the same judgment they look at you. I’ve withdrawn from society, just trying to manage these problems on my own. To make matters worse, he made 20 copies of my medical records and distributed them all over town. I carry the stigma. I had a psychosis episode at 21, and I know what that feels like. What happened during this last hospitalization was nothing more than calculated abuse orchestrated by him. That’s my story.
