I've been living with F20.0 for 11 years now, and even though I stay pretty disciplined with my meds, I've still dealt with a few mild psychotic episodes and countless depressive ones. Even the most mentally resilient people experience certain fluctuations in how they function. For me, the real goal is just fine-tuning the treatment so that those rough patches aren't quite as intense or frequent.
Sadly, yeah. I keep getting haunted by this hope that it'll all just vanish on its own whenever I catch a glimpse of my old self—if you know what I mean. I wouldn't even call it a remission; it feels more like I'm time traveling and suddenly remembering who I actually was. There are moments where I feel totally normal, and I find myself praying to God that it lasts, but then things always take a turn for the worse. It's so hard to stay grounded and live in the moment. And don't even get me started on how much it sucks having zero motivation; I just want to sleep all day, but then I wake up and I'm still not rested enough to actually be productive. I guess I only get maybe five hours a day where I can actually function like I used to... the rest is just a blur. Everything is such a grueling process of procrastination. I don't have that old "just do it" energy anymore; instead, I have this entire internal debate just trying to tackle basic daily tasks. It's pathetic. And then people tell you, "Oh, you just need to love yourself." Like, seriously?🙂🕺

I read about this guy who took his own life. He had a schizophrenia diagnosis and spent some time in a psychiatric facility.
He was terrified that if his parents died, he’d be shoved straight back into a psych ward, and death started looking like a much better alternative.
Is there even a chance of inheriting a family pension or social security benefits?
Or maybe, if things improve and I regain my ability to work, I could just flee to some more humane country where we're actually treated like human beings.
Back when I had an incident—just a minor misdemeanor, really—two years ago, the police hauled me off to a psych ward in Cleveland. I still have nightmares about it. I live in constant fear that they’ll drag me back there again, all because I was an idiot and handed my discharge papers to my primary care doctor—which I was told to do—only to then hand them over to the police for inspection. I didn't even have to do that. I guess I shouldn't have.
To be blunt, my legal and human rights were blatantly violated, and the conditions in that place were subhuman.
Even for me, death seems like a better option than being locked up in a facility like that.
We seriously need to address this.
I try not to dwell on it too much. I usually comfort myself by thinking that I have good genes in my family and that my parents will be around for a while longer, because I honestly don't know what I'd do without them. But then there's the other side of the coin. That whole stigma surrounding schizophrenia and everything else... you can overcome it. You fight against all that garbage by finding a decent psychiatrist, getting through therapy, and just trying to push forward with your life however you can. My social workers treat me like it's just business as usual; they see plenty of people with this illness living totally normal lives, so... yeah. That's how it is.

It was introduced just a few years back as one of those first third-generation antipsychotics, and it really changed the game. It treats schizophrenia without that heavy, mood-crushing side effect you get from almost all the older drugs. My only gripe is that it doesn't quite tackle everything on its own, so I end up taking it alongside my Lexapro to keep things balanced.
I’ve been pairing mine with xanax for over a year now, and honestly, it's only just recently started feeling like it's actually working better for me than anything else... I don't know what the catch is, though. Every time my mental state finally starts looking up, something always seems to trip me up. I guess I'm just searching for that magic formula to actually make it stick, hehe..
Hey everyone, I’m looking for someone to just, you know, chat with or whatever ☕ here’s a little bit about me: I’m into candles, fire, cats, and scribbling on paper in the desperate hope that I might actually produce something resembling a drawing. Also big on RPGs, Tintin, and spending like two hours just soaking in the tub 🍿 so yeah, hit me up if you’re looking for some company 🙂

My name is Mary. I’m looking for some help here. It feels like I’m completely alone in this struggle—dealing with schizophrenia. I have diagnoses of F20.0, F21, and I47. I’ve been dealing with suicidal ideation and have been on medication since I was twelve years old. I try so hard to push those thoughts away, but they just won't leave me alone. I hear voices, and I see shadows. The voices... they tell me to jump out the window. Part of me just wants to die on my own terms. In the past, whenever I lost control over those impulses, I ended up being hospitalized. This all traces back to when I was only six; I saw the ghost of a woman. I’ve always been withdrawn and shy. Honestly, I’m terrified of people. I feel like they can read my mind, that they're gossiping about me or even casting curses. I even feel like there are cameras hidden all over my room. Most days, I just stay in bed because I have zero willpower left. It’s like I’ve just vanished from the world.
I didn't want anyone to know all of this. But they found out. Now, I have legal guardians.
I don't have any friends, and as for having a boyfriend... well, let's just say that isn't happening.
I have a partial disability regarding my ability to work. I simply can't hold down a job.
I feel such a deep sense of shame. I'm young, yet I can't work, I can't date, and I don't have friends. I am just... alone.
How do you all manage to cope with everything?
Hey, hey, listen—I just wanted to reach out and tell you that you aren't alone in this. Seriously. They took away my ability to work too, my parents are my legal guardians, and I've been living with a schizophrenia diagnosis for three years now... they've put me through absolutely everything. Right now, I'm on Abilify injections and Xanax, and honestly, I'm feeling way better than I did the last two months. Those past two months were pure hell; I was going through the exact same thing you are, and it was so bad I ended up in the ER because a panic attack triggered by my own thoughts just totally leveled me. I'm carrying so much trauma from everything I've endured, and sometimes the voices get so loud that I'm genuinely terrified that the dead, the living, and even imaginary people are going to jump out of thin air right next to me. How do I cope? Honestly? I don't. It's hard. It's actually just horrific. People who haven't lived through this... they just can't wrap their heads around how terrifying it is. To me, it feels like being dead and just waiting for someone to wake you up. Most of the time, I'd give anything to just do something mindless—anything just to escape my own head... so I end up sleeping a lot and just staying in bed. If you ever need someone to talk to, please, just shoot me a DM. Hang in there!
Anyone down to chat? Just looking to kill some time, I guess. I'm 26, a huge cat person, and I can basically spend hours at a Starbucks just nursing a latte. I'm a failed philosophy and English major—not that anyone's counting—but I still love writing whenever inspiration actually decides to show up. Sometimes I'll sketch out a drawing, too. I read a lot. We could even start our own little "finer things club" where we read books or watch total garbage just so we can tear it all apart afterward. That sounds pretty fun to me. So, hit me up. Please, write to me! 🎉
Hey everyone! So, about three years ago, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
I’ve got a question regarding these sleep issues... does anyone else here feel like they've completely lost that amazing sensation of gently drifting off and actually waking up feeling rested? It’s been killing me. Every time I talk to my psychiatrist, they just try to shove some kind of sleeping pill down my throat, but nothing ever works. It’s like my brain is just constantly overloaded, and then suddenly everything just shuts off like a light switch. But then, when I wake up, it feels like someone hit me with an electric shock—I'm jolted wide awake, but my emotions feel half-baked, totally incomplete. And then, BAM! Just constant exhaustion and total helplessness. Honestly, I'm getting scared to even bring it up with my doctor because I feel like they're just going to swap one pill for another, and I'm just so over it. I tried taking serotonin for a month and it did absolutely nothing. The last time I actually felt like I was sleeping was after 2mg of Xanax, but since then? Zero. Nothing. I guess my brain just built up a tolerance.🤦
Once you finally stumble upon that spark of inspiration that actually points you toward your goals... well, you've got to start listening to the people who already have the life you're chasing. For better focus? I guess meditation and hitting the gym might help, maybe.
I honestly have no clue how I ended up here. I guess I was just Googling my diagnoses and stumbled upon this massive pile of useful info. It’s been a lifesaver finding people dealing with the exact same struggles—people who can actually put my symptoms and issues into words way better than I ever could. That’s meant a lot to me, because my condition makes it really hard to express myself sometimes. I can’t always verbalize everything; it feels like so much has piled up over the years that even starting to explain what's wrong with me feels overwhelming. In a weird way, it's been comforting to find a community of people who are actually understanding and react to your problems with empathy—some of them even more so than my therapist does. Seriously, huge props to this forum! 👍
I'm a 24-year-old woman who basically lives on caffeine, loves getting a little high, and stays up way too late having those deep, existential conversations. I also find myself talking endlessly about my mental health struggles and various disorders (so if there's a therapist type out there, feel free to chime in) 😁 I'm looking for someone to vibe with and get elevated with—someone curious, maybe a bit eccentric, because honestly, I just love weirdos. So, if that sounds like you... hit my inbox 🕺
