Quarantine Life in Coronavirus ·
A friend of mine has this situation where her husband came back from his trip and started showing every single symptom imaginable, so they rushed him in for testing right away. They told them that she and the kids are almost certainly going to catch it too, and the moment his results come back positive, everyone has to jump straight into self-isolation. And if they start developing symptoms themselves—which they actually did just a day or two later—they’re basically just expected to stay home for two weeks without any further testing... shrug emoji
That was the word from the epidemiologists over at the Mayo Clinic, since that’s where he went to get tested.

It really makes you wonder why they aren't testing every single infected person... and what's even more interesting is that they literally told them they could go about their business and walk around freely until his actual results arrive. 🙈

Robin Barnes4 said:Sean Long4, over a month ago I paid for a pound of $33 and one $3.25 plate was the cost, assuming she isn't reusing them (those plastic ones)...

Maybe prices aren't exactly the same for everyone...

But you have to realize there's a difference in pricing when you're just buying samples for a tasting (which is pricier) versus when you're placing a full order for a wedding (which is cheaper)

And I am right there with you regarding how their sweets taste!!!

Daniel Barrett6 said:Oh, I just knew you would be the first one to chime in on this😂. Don't take it personally, but everyone has already heard that story about your fruitcake, much like they've already heard your takes on Emma.😉

I'm not upset at all, 😁 actually, I happen to love those little treats😂. >But when I tried them here, the aftertaste was just... unpleasant. It's one of those flavors that really sticks with you for a long time... quite vivid, actually.

Maybe I just happened to get a bad batch, much like you did...?!?!

Daniel Barrett6 said:If you ask me, they are absolutely top-tier.🙏 However, I must share a different experience. A few days after some ladies were raving about Cashner’s bakery, my husband and I decided to pick up a few pounds of their wedding cakes to bring home. I must admit, we were quite disappointed. 😢The aftertaste of margarine from the white pie still lingers on my palate, the bohem square was entirely flavorless, and everything else was merely mediocre. To be fair, the cookies are visually stunning. I have no intention of being overly critical, but we won't be returning there; we will certainly stick to Emma and Sugarman!🙂

You know, Emma's treats left me with that exact same impression. I almost 🤮 when I bit into the Shubarić, because there was just so much margarine in it, and the rest felt so bland too...

boldbison32 said:I just picked up some sample cakes from Magnolia Bakery to try them out, and honestly, they are delicious—especially that chocolate mousse one. I’m curious to hear what you all think... has anyone here recently had one of their wedding cakes or tried any of their other desserts?

We actually used them for our wedding cake, and we went with a parfait style...
The reaction after the reception was pretty much like this: "The music was great, but oh my god, that CAKE!!!!"

Everyone kept asking for seconds... if not thirds!

So yeah, 👍👍👍

mistygull12 said:I haven't actually heard anyone express dissatisfaction with them yet, as everyone seems to praise them; the pastries feel genuinely homemade, with each one possessing its own unique appearance, color, and most importantly, flavor. On the other hand, Cashner is widely known for using those industrial creams—you can tell by the Canadian pastry, which has a cream so dark and tough it's almost unpalatable. For me, Hearty is simply wonderful, and they saved me so much trouble after I spent months searching for an authentic, homemade dessert, which I know is something we all value deeply...😉

Fifteen posts on this specific thread alone, and it's nothing but praise for Hearty while they tear everyone else apart!!!! 😕😕🤷🤷

I was just thinking that $27!!

So, I was chatting with an auntie who used to work for Majetć, and she mentioned she wouldn't exactly swear by their pastries...
She claims they mostly use store-bought creams, and even the sponge cakes are just mass-produced batches that they dye to look different...
Basically, they aren't anything like what you'd get from a real homemade recipe...

Anyway, I hope that helps anyone wondering!

Jacob White37 said:It is one $33. Their website states it clearly.
We have reached several conclusions 😁 regarding the fact that the cake will be sourced from a bakery, and we intend to give the local shop in Majetić one final chance since the mothers were unimpressed; if they fail to deliver, we will either pivot to Sugar Land or perhaps hire two women from the neighborhood who bake at home, depending entirely on the cost.

Ladies, I see you're considering using Majetić... I might actually be able to find out firsthand how they prepare everything, since my neighbor used to work there...

boldpanther102 said:Are you feeling full yet? I’m expecting about 190 people, which means roughly 75 lbs plus another 65 lbs for the gift boxes, and then an extra bit for the local community center... Uuuuugh, I’m gonna need 150 pounds total!

It was plenty, and honestly, we still had leftovers... though I suppose it really just depends on the specific wedding...

boldpanther102 said:One bakery told me that enough salad for eight people would just be a few pounds, which feels a bit light to me...
While another shop suggested about 7 ounces per person for the salad, but that actually seems like quite a lot to me....

It just occurred to me now... at my last gathering, we had about three pounds spread across the table for eight guests...

Nicholas Brown84 said:That sounds absolutely insane—like, 40 pounds?! I mean, we don't really have a thing for sharing desserts over here... so honestly, I haven't even begun to wrap my head around how much we'd actually need..

In that case, you’d just have to tell the bakery exactly how many individual pastries you want!!!! But then again, it really depends on the crowd. I remember one wedding I went to with about 120 people where they basically polished off over 130 pounds of sweets... everyone there had a serious sweet tooth...😂😂😂

Nicholas Brown84 said:How much cake are we actually talking about if I'm feeding a crowd of about a hundred?
And does anyone have any good bakery recommendations in San Diego?

We ended up having about 40 kg, and that includes all the extra portions we were handing out to guests at the house!!!
And there was still some left over!!!

Sandra Lopez2 said:In California🙄 I still need to check out how their pastries are; I usually end up disappointed by them....

Translating isn't the issue here. I'm genuinely curious about how they hold up after two or three days... have you actually tried them?

Well, I actually just tried them 😂😂 we were eating them a whole week later and they were just as delicious!!!
And whereabouts in California?

Sandra Lopez2 said:Fair enough, thanks.

I've heard nothing but good things about them. Since I'm getting married outside of Chicago, I’d probably pick them up on a Thursday... they should stay fresh for at least two days, right?🤷

Wait, don't they offer delivery too?! Where exactly are you holding the wedding?

Sandra Lopez2 said:What’s the minimum order weight? Also, is it possible to pick them up a few days early?🤷

Well, I'm honestly not sure when you'd be able to go grab those sweets. When we had our wedding, we actually went through the restaurant where the reception was held, and since they had a special arrangement on pricing with the bakery, it ended up costing us about $25 per pound.
But my guess is, if you decide to order directly from them, the price will probably jump up to $27!!!

casualbison14 said:The treats at Small House are absolute perfection!!!!!!!!!!!!
They did both the cake and the desserts for my wedding.
Kashner is fine, too, but I was at a wedding this past Saturday and finally got to try a huge variety. Honestly? They don't taste homemade to me—everything looks way too manicured. Every crust is the exact same thickness, exactly 2mm of cream, every cherry perfectly placed. They just don't have that homemade look.
But I can't deny they taste okay...
When I was picking stuff for my wedding, the most important thing was that it felt homemade and high quality. I didn't care much about the price—the difference is only a few dozen bucks—and I wasn't about to pay for desserts that look like they came out of a factory bag.

I've checked into it, and Kashner makes their pastries without any industrial additives or chemicals; I did quite a bit of digging before we decided to go with them!

Michael Martinez16 said:So what's the deal with those Kašnar cookies? Are they actually good?

Michael Martinez16, we actually had some of those treats from Kašnar once, and let me tell you, everyone was raving about them!
In my opinion, their sweets are absolutely divine...
My mother-in-law is quite the expert when it comes to baking... her cakes and pies are truly out of this world.
When she gave them her seal of approval and said they were phenomenal, I knew they really were...
And there were a few other women in our circle who work in the catering industry and know their way around a kitchen... they all sang their praises too...
Wedding cakes and desserts in Weddings ·
To be honest, Emma's treats don't even come close to what Kašnar makes...

My aunt used to swear by Emma's cakes, but after she finally had a taste of Kašnar's work, she was completely blown away... everything changed for her...

As for me, I actually felt a bit nauseous after eating Emin's šubarica... and you have to understand, I usually absolutely love those...

Even at the wedding, people kept raving about the dessert spread. After all the music and the big cake were over, the little sweets ended up being the biggest hit of the night...

A pound of those treats is $27 or maybe even $28!!!
Wedding cakes and desserts in Weddings ·
After my wedding wrapped up, the feedback was pretty much always the same pattern: everyone would rave about the music first, then move on to the cake and those little pastries, and only after all that would they mention the actual food—which, to be fair, was absolutely delicious too...

The cake itself came from a local bakery called Sweet Treats, and since it was such a rich parfait style, a few guests actually thought it was made of ice cream.
As for the cookies and sweets, we picked them up from Casnar's!
