Upgrade options? in Desktops ·
I can pay cash, or just use a card if I run out of money 😁
But look, what if I don't want to overclock my processor? Is this basically the same thing or is there actually a noticeable difference between them?

My current setup consists of an ASUS ROG Z 77 Pro, a Sapphire HD 7850 2GB OC, an XFX 450 PRO power supply, and 4GB of Kingston HyperX 1600C9 RAM—honestly, those parts are solid enough for me right now.
The weak links are my Intel Pentium G 620 processor, a basic office-style case, and a standard 500GB hard drive. Since the rest of the build is fine, I’m looking to upgrade just the CPU, the case, and a decent SSD.
I use this rig for everything, though mostly for gaming, and even with that mediocre processor, I've managed to run most titles on High or Ultra settings so far. 😕
So, I need some recommendations. Since the holidays are coming up, I’m hoping to snag some extra discounts on parts. Just a heads-up: the case height can't exceed 46 cm, otherwise I'll have to start modifying my desk setup too. 😁

What processor are you running?
Just caught this 😁
I had the same issue on an i3, where it wouldn't go past 1333, but looks like you aren't dealing with that.

I was thinking about picking this up because I’m currently stuck with a 400W Chieftec unit that’s absolute garbage—it starts overheating after just ten minutes of being under a full load.
Would a 450W power supply even be enough for this setup:
an i3 2600MHz, an ASRock Z77 Pro3, and an overclocked Sapphire HD 7850 with 2GB?

The difference is $33 and it feels like that should be more than enough juice for these parts. I'm heading out to buy it tomorrow, so I'm just sitting here waiting on some advice. 😁

Which one of these is the better pick?

Or maybe there's a better alternative at Best Buy or somewhere else?

I don't actually have a motherboard yet; I just scored these components for free, so I'm building the rest of the rig around what I've got. I'm not really working with a strict budget here—I just want the absolute best setup possible based on whatever CPU can handle it.
Maybe this sounds like a dumb question, but wouldn't it be better if the motherboard had four RAM slots? Look, I’m definitely not an expert when it comes to hardware, so excuse me if I sound like an idiot 🤷

It’s got 500 watts.

Intel Core i3-3220
4GB DDR3 1333 MHz RAM
Chieftec CTG-500-80P PSU

Alright, here’s what I’m working with.
I need some advice on which GPU to pick up, along with a matching motherboard. I want this build for gaming, so I'm looking for the best graphics card that won't be completely bottlenecked by that processor. Also, I'm assuming this power supply isn't going to cut it if I try to run anything serious? Thanks.
