Idealizing someone in Psychology ·
ironrider11 said:Facts. The real question is why we bother with idealization in the first place. It’s usually just us staring at some monster in the mirror... if it isn't a total monster, then it's pure idealization. Or maybe it's just someone who constantly falls into that trap—basically a victim of those impossible standards society shoves down our throats. They can't meet the bar, so they just retreat into defensiveness, whether it's a quick snap or a long-term thing... one end of the spectrum or the other.

Thanks for the link. I'll check out the post when I get a chance.
I think it might take me a while to really wrap my head around what everyone else was getting at with their comments. ☕

Do you ever find yourself idealizing strangers you pass on the street, at work, or even just grabbing coffee? I mean, specifically those people you think you could actually fall for if things were different. Maybe it's just me, I guess.

I guess I do this all the time. I see someone attractive and immediately start building this whole perfect version of them in my head—their looks, their personality, everything. It’s totally irrational since I haven't even talked to them yet. Then, by some weird twist of fate, we actually meet. But the more we talk, the faster that fantasy falls apart. Once the real person shows up, the spark just dies. I end up losing interest so fast I can't even care about the physical stuff that caught my eye in the first place.

I didn't want to dump this on Facebook, so I figured I'd post it here instead... just curious to see what psychology says about it? :P

Feel free to deposit your own cash into your own checking account.

If the teller at Chase hadn't started lecturing me about taxes, I might have... but I guess since I'm still a student, she felt the need to warn me.

Hey. So, I went to drop a decent chunk of cash into my account yesterday, and the teller at Chase gave me this look. She basically warned me that while I can certainly deposit it, the IRS might come sniffing around later looking for trouble. She tried to push me toward opening a checking account, but I just shut that down for now until I can get some advice from you guys 😁 .

How do I play a system bet on BetMGM? Should I go with standard or bankers?

Anyone got a recommendation for an online sportsbook that actually pays out on time? I want somewhere without all the registration headaches where I can just use my credit card.

Thanks. My mom had surgery yesterday, and they moved her from the ICU to a regular room last night. I went to see her today, and when they briefly stopped her IV, she started vomiting blood. The doctor wasn't available while I was there, so I'm just wondering... is this kind of vomiting somewhat normal after surgery, or could it be related to the cancer?

I guess this is just palliative care now, and we really have to face that. It’s honestly just devastating. 😢

Thanks for the advice. I really hope she feels better soon.
Hey, looking for some advice. My mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about a month or two ago. By the time the latest scans came back, it had already spread to her liver. She had chemo about a week and a half ago, but just two days after that, she started vomiting blood and having black stools—which I'm guessing means internal bleeding. From what I gathered, the doctor said the cancer has reached her stomach and duodenum too. Then, three days ago, she developed a blood clot in her leg, so the doctors are trying to break that up with injections. Since she can't keep anything down without throwing up, the doctors want to perform a bypass, I think? To move food straight to the intestines instead of the stomach. They’ve asked us to make a call on whether we want them to go through with the surgery or not. What do you guys think is the smartest move here?

BTW, the tumor is about 10 cm.
