Project: Find a Friend (Classifieds / Meetup Thread) in Psychology & Therapy ·
Hey everyone!

I’m looking to connect with some guys here in the Washington, D.C. area—just some good company or maybe a new friend—for some low-key, informal philosophical deep dives. Don't worry, I haven't been diagnosed with anything crazy or anything, it's just more of a general sense of melancholy, you know? Also, just a heads up, I'm unvaccinated and I tend to steer clear of the mainstream media... I much prefer diving into alternative topics instead...

I’m honestly just bored of hoarding all these wild, twisted ideas in my head—keeping them tucked away in secret when I could be sharing them with someone who actually gets it, you know? Someone who would genuinely vibe with them and maybe even help me sharpen those thoughts into something real.

That’s why I’m looking for someone based in Washington, D.C. to connect with—someone I can check in with occasionally, but consistently, to let my chaotic mind run wild through some sort of mental playground. I’m looking for mutual exchange here. Basically, I want us to be able to vent our darkest, most unhinged thoughts and ideas to each other in total confidence. Just a heads-up, I’m a guy, and if possible, I’d love to find a busy woman to hang out with—I’m not looking for anything physical or any of the usual strings attached to a relationship.

Just to be clear, I don't drink, I'm not on any psych meds, and I don't have a clinical diagnosis or some massive tragic backstory. It’s more like this constant, low-grade depression triggered, I guess, by my own intelligence and a certain emotional fluidity.

As for what I want to dive into? Sexuality and mortality.

I’m with you on this: Love isn't some fleeting feeling; it's actions, words, thoughts, and mostly just showing up for someone. And it doesn't demand anything in return.
It’s not inherently destructive, and it doesn't actually hurt. It’s just the ego getting tangled up in it that causes the pain.

Take parental Love, for example—it doesn't sting. It's selfless and exists without needing a reason. Romantic Love, though? That needs constant fuel. I’m being all metaphorical today—too much cheesy talk about Love for me, ugh.

Honestly? I disagree. It hurts, it's often super selfish, it demands things, and sometimes... well, sometimes it's just not even there.

I get where they're coming from on the first part, but let's be real—ego is such a massive, unavoidable part of any loving relationship.

Both sides.

I’m right there with you, though I’d just add—I actually managed to dodge that whole infatuation phase, but honestly? I still think it’s a total sickness because, man, it just hurts. When someone was into me—it was painful for them. When I’m the one catching feelings—it’s me who feels the sting. And when you both fall head over heels at the same time? That’s when things get really messy—just pure mutual destruction of the soul and the psyche. Plus, it’s always the same story: when you actually need her, she’s nowhere to be found, but the second you don't need her, Love comes buzzing around like the most annoying fly, totally messing with your ability to think straight.

And when we're talking about Love in the grand, universal sense... I can't help but think of that story about Chris and how much he suffered because he just couldn't help himself.

So, I headed down to the bank, withdrew my cash, and I'll be closing all my accounts shortly...

Maybe you should have maxed out a credit card or something first? Honestly, let them try to block everything over some data stuff. :rolf:

Man, I wish I could do the same, but I feel like they’d just make my life a total nightmare when I tried to open a new account elsewhere.

The government (meaning this isn't some local regulation, either) isn't actually asking for your personal info—they’re just forcing banks to know exactly who they’re dealing with. And it doesn't just start and end with a single questionnaire; entire departments are dedicated to this stuff.
Just try sending money or making a payment to Russia and let's see what happens. 😁

The reality is that terrorism financing and money laundering are taken incredibly seriously—no bank wants to be the one getting dragged into a scandal for letting that happen under their watch.

When it comes to this whole deal, the relationship between the state and the banks is pretty much a two-way street. But like you said, it's legally easier (and frankly, a lot more polite) to push these regulations through the banks rather than shoving them directly down the throats of citizens—that way, the government maintains its "plausible deniability."

In my opinion? Throwing around terms like "terrorism financing" and "money laundering" is often just code for trade protectionism.

If the government handed your private info straight to a bank, you could actually sue them for it!

Full disclosure: I actually filled out the questionnaire at Zayre, but I refused to sign it, so that was that... for now.
