I was looking at my records from April and saw I had a refund coming back—well, more like it was just reallocated toward my payroll taxes. Now that we’re hitting May, I’m seeing a balance due again. What am I supposed to enter in column V here?
Hey, did anyone else get a notification on their IRS portal regarding the VAT return and Column V? I feel a bit slow here—is it actually mandatory now to use Column V to report whether we had a refund or an amount owed from last month's filing?
Look, I’m not talking about the actual freight—I know how transport works. This is about the service itself being tax-exempt because we're invoicing a client based in the USA. Now, I'm stuck wondering what else they'd want besides the VIES database info? Usually, the CMRs travel right along with the cargo and the driver, but what's left for us to hold onto?
I’m trying to figure out what kind of paperwork I actually need to prove a service was "performed within the USA." When it comes to shipping goods around the States, I usually just stick a CMR in the file along with a statement confirming the cargo left California, but what about services? What’s the standard for proving they were actually rendered?
David Parker44 said:It’s working fine on my end... it's just a standard pop-up window. If you've got some kind of ad blocker running, that might be what's messing things up. Which browser are you using?
I'm using Internet Explorer, and everything was working perfectly until now. I haven't changed a single setting, so I have no idea why this is happening all of a sudden (except for the fact that I can't access the PK system at all).
Hey, has anyone else run into issues trying to open their PDU card? The forms seem to be processing just fine, and I’m getting confirmations for previous submissions without any trouble, but the cards themselves won't budge... Instead of my dashboard, I just get this landing page that looks like a generic search bar—sort of like what you'd see on CNN, PayPal, or Gmail. What exactly am I looking at here?
If I’m looking to register a new employee starting March 1st, but I haven't received my electronic filing credentials for Social Security yet, can I just head down to the local office and file the paperwork in person this Monday? I know there's a grace period until April 1st, but given that 24-hour reporting requirement, isn't it worth being safe?
What can I even say? It’s hard to expect the Police Department to have all the answers, honestly. I’ve come across so many conflicting takes on this—some people swear by one thing, others say the exact opposite, and frankly, I’m just lost myself. It’s pretty pathetic that we’re stuck navigating this bureaucratic nightmare instead of having things actually streamlined and simplified to make our lives easier.
I’m not really looking to start a whole debate over Q&A here, I was just wondering about VAT implications for forestry services when invoicing an international client. It's specifically for woodcutting services—not something that happens every day, but it might come in handy for someone else. It’s true that you don't list VAT on the invoice itself, but you do need to include the "reverse charge" notation. Under the current tax regulations, certain services provided to foreign entities are exempt from the standard taxation principles—much like services tied to specific property—as outlined in the law. For everything else, the standard rules apply.
P.S. I didn't mean to sound condescending or imply anyone doesn't know their stuff. That wasn't my intention at all. This space is meant for sharing perspectives and advice, though I suppose it’s always wise to double-check things with multiple sources.
Ethan Bailey18 said:Thanks, ruggedmaker2. Honestly, the ladies over at the IRS I spoke to seemed completely clueless about what Article 76, Section 8 actually entails... they just kept politely passing the buck from one desk to another. In March, we have an import coming in from Mexico that's going to trigger a significant VAT bill. It made me wonder if I’d missed some detail in the recent regulation—the one that was supposedly finalized within four months of joining the USA (according to a local precinct ruling back in July 2013).
A bit of advice for anyone doing business within the European Union who finds themselves stuck on VAT issues: talk to the local authorities. In my opinion, every single company should probably have a dedicated expert on hand for these matters, but at the end of the day, whatever the official department tells you is your safest bet. I’ve already received some incorrect information here on this forum regarding the European Union and VAT. Thank goodness I hadn't actually calculated the tax and excise figures yet, or the numbers would have been absolutely disastrous...
Sarah Sullivan3, you’re a lifesaver! That was exactly where I was getting stuck. 🙂(Honestly, I probably wouldn't have cracked this today without your help)
When you're working on page one of the employer info section in the IP form, are you guys saving it as an XML file directly, or are you just using the "Save As..." option from the menu? I'm asking because the "Convert to XML" button on the actual form isn't doing anything for me at all. It’s just sitting there, unresponsive. Is it just my luck, or is anyone else running into this?
I just downloaded the new version from the IRS website
When I was filling out the IP form on the IRS site using Excel, I saved it as a Microsoft Excel 2003 file to prepare the XML data. The file "ip_oib_1" shows up with an .xml extension, so I assume the format is correct? Besides, I don't even see any other XML options in my "Save As" menu. Is there something I'm missing here?
My IP validator isn't doing anything for me. I upload the XML file, hit validate, and... nothing. Just dead air. What could possibly be the issue here??
So, my security certificate from Chase finally expired. The teller let me know, so I went ahead and handed back my card reader and my physical card to Chase. They told me that from now on, when I want to get into their online banking, I’ll just be using my federal digital ID—you know, the stuff used for the IRS and official government filings—all through one single digital token. Everything seems to be working fine so far, BUT NOBODY BOTHERED TO MENTION THE COST.
Now I'm sitting here wondering which setup actually makes more sense for my wallet. I've noticed some people seem to access those IRS portals directly through their bank interface instead. 😕
Exactly, I saw the same thing on the Social Security website regarding the transition period ending on April 1st, 2014. But then there’s that whole bit about the registration and deregistration window being just 24 hours starting from January 1st, 2014. Makes you wonder why they can't just make these things straightforward, doesn't it?
In my view, you have to distinguish between the taxpayer—which would be the corporation or the LLC—and the actual user, who is the individual holding the digital certificate. In my own situation, the certificate is technically issued to the CEO or the owner, but obviously, I’m the one actually using it and managing the PIN since I’m the one filing the electronic forms.
I’m hitting a total wall with the IRS portal and the tax filing app. Every time I try to log in, I get this error message saying NO CERTIFICATE SELECTED, complete with a red triangle and an exclamation point.😕 Does anyone actually know what might be causing this? Everything was working perfectly fine until now. I’ve tried following all the official user guides step-by-step, but nothing works. I even went as far as wiping everything and doing a clean reinstall, scrolling through all the advice on these forums, and trying every trick in the book—still nothing.
When I try to access the filing system, I just get this: FORBIDDEN: You don't have permission to access /rs on this server. IBM-HTTP-server at treasury.gov port 443
