Middle-earth movies (The Hobbit and LOTR) in Movies ·
My absolute favorite has to be Return of the King, mostly because that ending just completely wrecked me. I was a total mess. 🙂 😁
The rest of them are pretty solid too, though I can't really say the same for The Hobbit films. Honestly? Such a letdown. 🕺

A solid trio if you really want one

I caught it today, and honestly? It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either. Just a totally mid movie if you ask me.
Emily Ward56 said:Tonight on NBC, at 11:45 PM, they’re finally dropping the premiere of 4. The Final Destination. 😁 😉

I haven't seen that one yet, but man, what a bummer I missed it right when it aired. Guess I'll have to catch it later, right?

Personally, I think the second one is the best, right after the original 😁

Dennis Reed12 said:Ashton Kutcher-wannabe is just funny at this point. A completely irritating and exhausting individual.
Ben Affleck is just bland and boring; he plays the exact same role in every single movie.
Will Smith is decent enough, but in my opinion, he's massively overrated.
Nicolas Cage is lucky enough to star in great films, which masks his desperate, subpar acting.
Mila Kunis is a disaster. One word: hopeless. I have no idea who pushed her into this industry, but she is utterly talentless.
George Clooney is also, quite frankly, overrated.
Hugh Grant is unlikable; I can't stand him.
Vince Vaughn tries to use fast-talking to seem charming and funny, but it just has the opposite effect.
Matt Damon is the same story as Ben Affleck.

I'm with you on all of this!

Casey Cox2 said:Both Norton and Spike Lee are huge fans of Sidney Lumet.😍

😁 He’s one of those guys who actually gets art. Smart, picky about his roles, too. But man, it still bugs me how few movies he’s actually made.

Casey Cox2 said:First off, Norton is an incredible actor. He’s always been super selective with his roles and pulled off some seriously heavy performances (even sharing the screen with Brando). Beyond just being a great actor, he really goes all in—studying his characters deeply and channeling those legendary veterans like De Niro to get inside their heads. Even back when he was young in Primal Fear, you could tell he had massive potential and was someone you could truly count on.
He’s basically had a career path similar to Christian Bale, constantly pushing himself to be versatile. That peaked with American History X, where he made his mark on Kaye through a masterclass transformation that left everyone stunned.
He basically leveled up. A performance like that guarantees you a spot in those big-budget productions that followed, especially through his work with Fincher and Spike Lee.
Ever since American History X, the media has treated him like a superstar—one of those generational talents that everyone just raves about.
So, I honestly don't see how he can be considered underrated. What are we even talking about here???

Edward Norton "Under The Influence"

It looks like we have totally different definitions of what 'underrated' means, but whatever. Based on everything you wrote, it sounds like you think Norton is just some mid-tier actor. Forget 🙂

Casey Cox2 said:Maybe you're just trolling, but let's be real. Saying DiCaprio is underrated is basically just being part of a
Dafoe and Mortensen fan club. I mean, you need actual charisma for heavy-hitting roles, right? His vibe hasn't been the same since Basketball Diaries—he totally blew it there. Everything after that felt like a carbon copy.
Gilbert Grape is a great movie, sure, but he isn't the only reason why. Anytime he's paired up against a stronger actor, he just can't compete.
It's just how it is. Some people are fine with just ten minutes of screen time from someone like McC or even a mediocre Wahlberg.

Claiming that Norton and DiCaprio are underrated just doesn't hold water.

Look, I'm not some superfan, I'm just seeing what you're missing. McC actually killed it in his last movie. I'm not talking about the movie itself; I'm talking about the actor's performance IN THE MOVIE. It feels like you aren't grading the actors, you're just grading the films they happen to be in. That’s the only way I can make sense of why you think mediocre actors are top-tier. Come on, give me one solid reason why they aren't underrated.

Casey Cox2 said:I was definitely joking, since apparently DiCaprio is underrated to some people.😁

Cronenberg basically launched Viggo Mortensen into the big leagues, even though back in the 90s he had that great Indian runner role with Spenny and a small but killer part in Carlito's Way.
If he hadn't done Lord of the Rings, he’d probably still be pretty much overlooked by the general public.
For me, Dafoe’s roles in To Live and Die in L.A. and Light Sleeper are his absolute best performances. Not many people really talk about those films, huh?

DiCaprio is underrated, or maybe you just haven't seen his performance in What's eating Gilbert Grape?
Dafoe and Mortensen are good actors, BUT they're just "good." Maybe they get better projects, or maybe they land something truly iconic—then I might agree with you. They can be as talented as they want, but it doesn't mean much if you're stuck filming crappy movies.

Casey Cox2 said:When you look at actors from the 90s onwards, people totally overlook guys like John Turturro and Chris Cooper (they usually just play supporting roles).
I also honestly feel like Willem Dafoe and Viggo Mortensen deserve way more credit than they get.

You're kidding, right?

brisklynx62 said:A little bit of an off-topic tangent here... when it comes to being underrated, I honestly think Tim Roth is a total genius, yet somehow always flies under the radar as an actor..

He was great in 'Lie to Me,' but he’s just not really my type of actor. 🤷

Casey Cox2 said:Get real. You seriously can't try to pass off being underrated just because you didn't pick up any academic awards.
Everyone seems to be obsessed with Leić lately—everyone’s acting like he's the absolute greatest of all time. If everyone is hyping him up that much, how can anyone still call him underrated? Makes you wonder, right?
The Academy totally snubbed him. I guess they just didn't think he was fully grown as an actor yet.😛
Norton is just on another level. He’s more versatile, way more charismatic, and honestly? A much better actor than DiCaprio, who basically hasn't done anything interesting since Basketball Diaries. Is he even still trying?

Underrated actors are the ones who actually put in the work to earn more spotlight and recognition. These two have been absolute titans of the industry for the last 15 years. Like, seriously, what the hell?🤣

I'm with you on that—they definitely missed the mark a bit. And honestly? I have to admit both guys are playing different games entirely. Look at Edward Norton; he’s way more selective about his roles than Leo is, which you can tell just by looking at their filmographies. But man, they both get lowballed too often. Maybe not right this second, but back in the day? They were seriously underrated.
I honestly lean more towards Norton's acting style, so it kind of bugs me that he's only done about 30 films so far. Wouldn't you agree?

wanderinggardener83 said:Man, this poll is brutal. Hard to pick just one, but if I had to go with my top picks, I'd say: Primal Fear, American History X, The Score—I’d probably put that one on top—and 25th Hour...
They’re all unique in their own way. Most of them hit different genres, different scripts, and come from totally different directors.

Look, I’m not some big-shot critic obsessed with Oscar winners, Golden Palms, Bears, Golden Monkeys, Turtles, or whatever other random animal awards they hand out. 😁
But just glancing at the stats, I haven't seen any major "big" awards won for these, at least not for acting.

I guess that's just how the game works, right? Media hype, sponsorships, exposure. You probably even need to "drop" some cash just to get a shot at walking that famous red carpet. 😳

edit;

Just saw electricridge6's post, and based on what they said, it looks like he didn't actually snag any awards for those movies.

Honestly, who else could play that role in The Score better than him? That's why I highlighted that movie specifically. There was such a huge stir during the Oscars regarding The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) and Leonardo DiCaprio's performance. I don't really get it, but maybe that's just how things work now? Kind of like how PSY released Gangnam Style—nobody really understood it, yet it has nearly 2 billion views. It feels like the same thing happened with The Wolf of Wall Street The Wolf of Wall Street and an actor who definitely deserved an Oscar for Best Actor.

Dobiti has picked up some awards, but they're mostly just consolation prizes. You know, if you want to argue with someone, just look up what Dobiti won for certain films. They've been doing that for years. I feel bad for Lea, seriously, he deserves an Oscar. Both him and Norton were robbed and totally underrated.

Casey Cox2 said:but Norton isn't an underrated actor by any means!
I'd say he's slipped a bit lately. He tried his hand at blockbusters, but honestly, his role choices have been pretty questionable.
Top tier Edward Norton: 25th Hour, American History X, Rounders, Fight Club, Death to Smoochy.

He’s massively underrated, period. Think about how he missed out on the Oscar for Primal Fear—everyone just remembers who actually took home the trophy. Then for American History X, the Academy gave the Oscar to Benigni instead? Seriously ridiculous decision by the Academy. And don't forget he was killer in Fight Club and The Score...
As for why he hasn't been in the spotlight or killing it like he used to, he's probably just waiting for the right moment. Take Motherless Brooklyn, for example; it's based on that great book. The book is fantastic, so I have no doubt Norton will nail his part.
Edward Norton in Movies ·
Honestly, he was incredible in Primal Fear. It was his first big role, and man, he absolutely nailed it. I was actually speechless when I watched it, which doesn't happen to me very often :P

Just a heads-up for anyone who isn't following him—this super underrated actor is filming a new movie called Motherless Brooklyn 🙂. Pretty exciting stuff, right?
