I really feel for the elderly—my own dad has been struggling with his health for quite some time now (as I think I mentioned before), and just this past month, he suffered a stroke... To put it mildly, his cognitive functions are pretty much shot at this point. I made sure to do that final anointing this time around, just in case things take a turn for the worse this autumn...

I really have to share this with you—last night at my local coffee shop (the one right on my street), the playlist was nothing but the absolute best hits from the 70s and 80s right here in the States—all on my request, of course. 😁 I told the owner—who I know personally—that I was wondering if we could do a local playlist tonight instead of the usual foreign stuff, since I’m heading out tomorrow and I can listen to international hits whenever I want wherever I land.

His response? Well, let's just say the evening ended with him personally picking up his guitar and playing a whole set of classics for the entire cafe—then he formally closed up and locked the door just to avoid a fine for overstaying, which, in our neck of the woods, would be considered violating closing time. 🤣

It goes without saying that my flight the next day was quite the ride...🙏

It isn't a matter of capability—because it absolutely can be done—it's a matter of attitude and mindset. The "remote areas" thing has nothing to do with this... at least not in the way you're thinking. Having a rifle tucked away for backup isn't a bad idea—actually, it's pretty smart... but that is a completely different beast from what's considered normal in the USA, which some people (totally wrong) equate with freedom. That isn't freedom... not by a long shot. It's just straight-up paranoia, violence, and living in a state of constant threat (at least mentally speaking).

A friend of mine lives in Texas, and she once sent me a photo of a guy she was standing behind in line at Dunkin' while waiting for her coffee. He was right in front of her, placing his order, and sticking this massive rifle out of his backpack—or whatever he was carrying—and it looked almost intentional, you know? Like he wanted everyone to see exactly what he was packing. I couldn't tell if it was an AR-15 specifically, but regardless, there was no missing the fact that the guy was armed to the teeth.

Personally, I'm glad that carrying weapons around whenever you feel like it is illegal where I live. And I highly doubt that any of those people singing loudly about "gun culture" would be thrilled to run into armed individuals in a preschool hallway while waiting for their kids, or outside a school, in a grocery store, at Starbucks, or just anywhere else...

It's just basic paranoia, which then ends up feeding into everyone else's sense of paranoia.
