I don't really get why psychiatrists can be so stubborn, you know? Like, if you tell them a new treatment isn't actually making things better, they just keep insisting they're right and try to prove you wrong instead.
Pills have basically become a fad! It’s always one trendy med this year, then another one next year, just going on and on forever. 😳
I’m definitely ditching this Alventa ☕ After 3 months, I just don't feel any different compared to when I was on Lexapro or Faversim... Not sure why my psychiatrist is so obsessed with keeping me on Alventa 🤷
Well, I guess everyone reacts differently to the same meds...
Nathan Kim10 said:Just talk to the psychiatrist who prescribed those antidepressants. That drowsiness might just be the depression itself. It's probably just a way of shielding yourself from reality.
I guess I agree! I basically run to sleep whenever things get rough, just because it feels safe there...
A little bit of alcohol, like a glass of wine or maybe a beer, shouldn't really mess with you too much. Just don't do it right after taking your meds, though. Maybe wait until somewhere between 👍
It’s a whole different story if someone goes overboard with five beers and a bottle of wine 😁
Anyway, if anyone can help me out, feel free to shoot me a DM...
I'm on Effexor XR 2 x75mg and Xanax SR 2 x1mg. I've been on Xanax for about 3g, and Effexor XR 3 mg. Basically, at first, I couldn't sleep at all—like, I didn't feel anything even after 5 weeks. Then things started looking up a bit. But then I just crashed hard for maybe 2 weeks, and now, for the last few days, I've been sleeping almost all day. Like, I seriously can't stay awake 🤷
I'm starting to think this might be more than just depression! And man, the dreams 😲
Brandon Lopez6 said:Anxiety doesn't exactly wreck me every time, and 99% of the time I can handle a panic attack on my own. But, you know, when I can't, I can't. And this Xanax? It's basically useless. It just makes me feel like absolute ☕
I want meds that actually calm me down, not stuff that leaves me even more paranoid because it isn't working and now I'm freaking out even harder!!! 😠😠
So, what, you're saying I should switch them out?
One of the most reliable things for calming down is Ativan—it's probably way better than Xanax if you just need it once in a while!
I get what you mean, but maybe try some autogenic training? Especially since your anxiety isn't super intense! It works wonders for tension and fear. If you're interested, check out Dr. Vedran Bilić over at Mayo Clinic right now! You just gotta be consistent, like, at least twice a day just for yourself. Each session with the six exercises takes about 20 or 30 mins. Might be worth a shot, I guess! 🙂
crimsonstag84 said:How much cash are you looking to drop? What about the rest of the build?
The rest is pretty decent: an Intel Core i7-based desktop system with an INTEL Q9505 and a CORSAIR TX650W plus some PATRIOT VIPER 4GB 1066MHZ Running Windows 7 x64 ultimate, maybe around $667 or maybe a bit more.
Basically, I'd rather just grab a nicer GPU than deal with paying $333 every single month. I'm not really loyal to any specific brand! I guess if it works, it works. 👍
Brandon Lopez6 said:So, I got some Xanax for when things get heavy, and honestly, I’ve had to reach for it twice now. But even then, I haven't felt any better after taking it. Maybe if I could actually stop convincing myself that everything's fine—which would help me chill out—it might work, but it's just such a fleeting thing...
Should I just hang in there and wait for something else to happen, or should I start looking into other options?
If you got the 0.5mg Xanax, that’s basically nothing if you're actually panicking. Combining an antidepressant with something like Xanax SR is usually a much better combo, I guess... Just depends on how bad it's hitting you and what's going on?
No single pill is powerful enough to hit instantly and just fix everything, you know? Like, solve your whole life right then and there. Unless we're talking about those massive shots they give you at the hospital, lol😁
mistyheron8 said:That would pretty much describe my situation. Over the last five years, I’ve been hit with incredibly heavy depressive episodes quite frequently. Or, if I’m being honest, I feel like I’ve just lived in a constant state of depression, anxiety, and OCD. It’s deeply rooted in my family genetics; there are plenty of us struggling, with far too many instances of suicides and hospitalizations... But honestly, I don't mind, even if it means taking antidepressants for the rest of my life, provided they actually work. It beats living half-dead. People take medication daily for diabetes, heart issues, or blood pressure without anyone batting an eye... yet somehow, everyone looks at psychotropic drugs with such intense scrutiny.🤷
It's just because people are being primitive ☕
Don't even sweat it! In the USA, almost everyone sees a psychiatrist or therapist and takes some kind of medication... I mean, half of Hollywood is on drugs! But we're talking actual drugs, not pills, so everyone loves them and cries about them or whatever!
A pill is a pill! You really think synthetic proteins are healthy? 🤣 Even the apples you eat aren't as natural as they used to be!
Honestly, I managed to get off my meds for a few years, then it hit me again. Oh well, life goes on, I guess. 😉
Just try to find something that makes you happy and stay spontaneous. 🙂
The first acute phase usually lasts about four to six weeks. If someone responds well to an antidepressant, you might see some light at the end of the tunnel after maybe two or three weeks, and symptoms typically drop by about 40-50% after three or four weeks. I guess if there’s no real improvement after four to six weeks of sticking to the right dosage, we should probably switch things up and try a different class of drugs—something with a totally different mechanism of action. Swapping one antidepressant for another really only makes sense if the current one, used properly at a therapeutic dose for at least four weeks (though ideally six to eight), just isn't cutting it or if the side effects are way too rough to handle. One big reason things fail is probably sub-dosing—basically taking less than what's actually needed—and stopping the meds too early is a huge reason why people relapse.
Once things are looking good, you move into phase two: maintenance therapy, which needs to last for a year. The whole goal here is just to keep those depressive episodes from coming back. During this stage, you're basically staying on the same dose you used during the acute phase. For patients who don't necessarily need prophylaxis (like if it was their first episode and they went into full remission), we gradually taper off the medication. But for folks who deal with these episodes super frequently, they’ll likely need preventative therapy for at least five years, or even for life. And if we eventually decide to stop treatment, it definitely has to be done gradually.
crimsonheron80 said:I was genuinely stunned today. 😢 I went to see my psychiatrist and laid everything out—how the suicidal thoughts are following me around 24/7. His response? He just asked which medication I wanted to take. I mean, what am I, his doctor? Am I supposed to know which one fits? We eventually settled on Faverin since it’s the only one left on my list, so he wrote that down. Then he had the nerve to ask what else I wanted for calming down. I told him Ativan. He asks if I meant the 5mg dose. I said no, the 10mg (because, honestly, that's the dose I'm aiming for to end it all). He just goes, "Ah, okay, 10mg. What else do you need?" Are you kidding me? Is this some kind of joke at the clinic?
To top it off, I finally asked him to just tell me what my diagnosis actually is, because I can't stop thinking about suicide. He just shrugs and says, "Come on, I've told you this a dozen times, you have Borderline Personality Disorder." I asked what that actually means. He tells me, "It means you are who you are—an incredibly immature person who struggles and tends toward self-destruction." Oh, wow. Thanks for that. Much appreciated. 🙂☕
So I’ve been on Effexor for almost two and a half months now and honestly? Still nothing. Like, zero effect so far! Personally, I thought Faverin was great, and Lexapro worked pretty well for me too...
Does anyone have experience with other serotonin reuptake inhibitors that aren't total garbage? I feel like they just work better for me than those dual-action ones😁
crimsonheron80 said:Personally, I find it to be a pretty weak antidepressant. It had zero effect on me either..
Exactly! Everyone reacts to meds differently, I guess. Fever worked great for me, and Lexapro was also good, just kind of pricey even with a prescription.
It’s wild, but after two months on Albert (Viagra), I’m feeling zero effect. I don't know, maybe I'm just built different or something? 😁 Everyone keeps saying this stuff is the greatest for anxiety🤷
Everyone was trashing Vista, but honestly, I thought it was pretty decent once Service Pack 1 dropped! Maybe it hogs a bit more RAM, but overall, I don't really have any complaints. With the latest patches, Vista feels a little more solid, I guess. It boots up faster and looks nicer—if you're into that sort of thing—plus it’s a bit lighter on resources now!
As for the whole 32-bit versus 64-bit debate, I'm still sticking with 32-bit Windows!
I've messed around with both, and man, those 64-bit versions are just painfully slow... it's driving me crazy! I know Service Pack 1 isn't out yet, but seriously, it's a huge oversight by Microsoft that they haven't fixed this stuff already. And having a "Program Files x86" folder? Come on, guys, get it together ☕
How can you even try to sit on both sides of the fence? 😂
