Larry Ward69 said:Just look at the facts... ask her anything you need to know. Nobody here is a psychiatrist, and nobody knows exactly when a med will start working for someone else. It doesn't work the same way for everyone. How many times have people already told you this??

You've asked about Zoloft a hundred times now. Honestly, enough is enough. Or maybe you're just trolling, who knows... If it were up to me, I'd have banned you from the psychology board by now. Too bad I don't make the rules.

I'd ban you too,
there's no need to be rude—if it bothers you, just ignore it.

Look...🙄

She mentioned that if things don't start looking up soon, she'll switch my prescription,
but honestly, I'd really rather not go through that.
That's why I'm asking—what has your experience been like with Zoloft?

Nathan Kim10 said:If you're only on 25 mg, of course it hasn't worked yet. If you'd been on 200 mg for a long time and still felt nothing, then maybe we could say the Zoloft isn't doing anything for you. Once you actually hit a full dose—wait 3 or 4 weeks, then you'll know.😉

Five years ago, I started at 50 mg, then bumped up to 75, so I'm glad I
went slow getting up to 25.

I've been on 100 mg for 13 days now, and I really don't want to increase the dose,
since this whole process is such a drag.

Does anyone know if 13 days is enough time for a 100 mg dose to actually kick in?
🤷

Nathan Kim10 said:You mentioned somewhere that you stopped taking it for a while, if I caught that right.
And honestly, 25 mg isn't even a real dose. You were basically under-medicated. It’s almost like you weren't even taking anything at all. That's probably why things went downhill. The max dose is 200 mg. Your psychiatrist is probably just scaling you up slowly so you don't get hit with all the side effects at once.
Just hang in there a bit longer.😉

But I'm wondering, should it have started working by now,
or have I just built up a tolerance since I've been on it for years?

Nathan Kim10 said:Antidepressants either work or they don't. You can't just cycle through them with breaks—it’s like you aren't even taking anything. Are you doing any psychotherapy?
Just slowly get back on Zoloft. The max dose is usually 200 mg.

I'm not talking about skipping days; I've been on them daily for two years now.
I am seeing a therapist.
It’s just frustrating because the increased dosage hasn't really kicked in yet.

Nathan Kim10 said:How long have you been on the Zoloft?

It’s been about five years, though I haven't been on it constantly.
For the last year and a half, I was just on 25 mg—my doctor actually thought about tapering me off completely.
But then a month ago, I hit a really dark patch with depression, so they bumped me up to 50.
Then, about thirteen days ago, they moved me up to 100 mg.

I'm honestly not sure if I should call my doctor yet. The Zoloft hasn't quite kicked in for me,
and while it's true I'm not crying nearly as much as I was, those dark thoughts are still hanging around...

Do you think I should hang in there a little longer?

Do any of you have kids?
Are you worried they might end up dealing with this too?

Basically, separation neurosis means that in my head,
I'm still just a kid.
Mentally—not physically—I can't seem to detach from my parents because I'm terrified of growing up and taking on real responsibility.
Given how old I am now, there's this constant internal tug-of-war between the adult and the child.
One part of me wants to step up, while the other is scared to death, and that conflict leads to
obsessions, anxiety, depression, and all that stuff.
Hopefully, that clears things up for you.

granitefalcon26 said:Wait, how long has it been since you lived with your parents? Are you away at college? Why aren't you visiting them more often? I'm a little confused.😕🤷

No, I didn't mean physical distance—I meant feeling disconnected from them as a person.
from them.
Mentally, mostly, but physically too.

Jason Hughes51 said:You should probably include those details in that formal letter. Just list your full legal name along with your birth year.

It seems to me that lately, they tend to slap an F-code on someone just so they can maintain a certain level of control over how a patient is managed. I suppose you could call that a rather blunt approach, if you ask me.
But, if it provides you with some sense of mental stability—well, maybe don't worry too much about the technicalities of the F-codes. 😉

I don't have any official medical records.🤷
After my first session, she told me my main issue was
separation anxiety,
and that my depression was just a byproduct of that anxiety and being away from my parents.

I was convinced—well, terrified, actually—that I was developing schizophrenia,
so at my request, she referred me to another psychiatrist. He wrote up a
two-page summary of his opinion, and he didn't even mention that F-35 thing
anywhere in there. He just confirmed exactly what she had told me.

My psychiatrist never actually mentioned that specific diagnosis to me, even though I’ve brought it up several times...

granitefalcon26 said:Well, try doing two a day for another two weeks. That’s when you should really start seeing some progress.
How's your sex life been lately?😉
Zoloft can definitely tank your libido.

If I have these kinds of thoughts for another two weeks, even the sanest person would lose it...

I'm still a virgin,
and according to Freud, that’s exactly why I’m losing my mind.

granitefalcon26 said:Zoloft is just sertraline. It's an SSRI antidepressant.
Just like any other med in that class, it typically takes about 3 to 4 weeks to really start working.
Side effects vary wildly from person to person, so honestly, just check the pamphlet inside the box.😉
The most common complaint I hear is weight gain.
Personally, I don't take it.

For me, it actually caused weight loss—I dropped about 6 pounds.
I've been taking one pill a day for a month now and I still feel completely messed up.
But when I was on two pills a day for ten days, things were different.

How long does it usually take to kick in?
And what kind of side effects did you guys deal with?

For the hundredth time,
is anyone else here taking Zoloft?

🙄

btw, I definitely wouldn't recommend mixing Zoloft with alcohol.
I’ve been there before, and it just turned me aggressive, triggered panic attacks, and all that good stuff...

That isn't fair.
It's not like I actually want to think this way...🤷

It’s been two days since I started taking 2 Zoloft a day,
and my hands won't stop shaking. On top of that, I'm feeling super anxious and nauseous...

Is this normal?

Roger Rodriguez said:Everyone reacts differently, so please don't base your expectations solely on someone else's experience. For some, they start feeling a difference in just two weeks, while for others, it might take closer to two months.
It is often suggested that you should wait about a month, which just goes to show there is no set timeline for when an antidepressant will actually kick in, right?

I was taking 25 mg of Zoloft (half a pill) for a year and a half,
then I hit a rough patch, so my doctor bumped me up to 50 mg.
After 18 days of feeling absolutely nothing, she moved me up to 100.
I guess since I've been on it for years, my body just got used to the lower dose.
As of yesterday, I've been taking two pills a day.
The highest I've ever gone was 1.5 pills daily.

I really don't want to go any higher; this already feels like too much.
Hopefully, it starts helping soon.
