A few weeks back, I was watching this documentary series on DOQ when they featured some big-name celebrities opening up about their struggles with depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder—specifically their experiences with AD. They brought in university professors and psychiatrists to weigh in, too. The doctors made a really interesting point: staying in a dark, depressive state without treatment actually causes your neurotransmitters to die off, creating this hollowed-out void in your brain—sort of like a network full of holes. On the flip side, for those who were consistently on AD, the neurotransmitters stayed active and didn't degrade.
I wanted to share this for anyone out there worried that taking AD long-term is somehow harmful.
The bottom line? It’s proven to be more than just safe; it's actually beneficial.

When are parents officially "done"? in Psychology & Therapy ·
At its core, this is an emotional issue. So what if they’re your parents?
If they brought you into this world, that doesn't give them a free pass to destroy you.!!!!!
You’ve only got one back to carry your own baggage, because they have their own to lug around too. Your siblings will grow up just like you will... and one day, you’ll actually be able to share that emotional burden together—the one your parents unconsciously forced on you while they were busy chasing a "better life."
Stop feeling sorry for them!
Stop playing Mother Teresa; even she wouldn't hand out cash if she knew it was just going to be blown on drinks.
There’s an old saying: if you want to feed someone, don't just give them a fish—teach them how to fish. Do that for your siblings by talking to them constantly. Be their emotional anchor, because they're feeling the exact same way you are. Don't pity them for lacking food; your siblings are starving for love and support.
Keep your interactions with your parents to a bare minimum, especially when your mother starts the crying routine. And don't you dare feel guilty about it. Even a good parent doesn't feel guilty when they say "no" to a kid to teach them a lesson!
Focus all that energy on building your own family.

QUOTE=solilokvij; says: 29837128]Ugh! At first, I treated Paxil like my absolute savior because it basically brought me back to life, but now? I’d honestly rather toss the whole bottle in the trash. Whatever, I guess I'll just see how things play out. At least I got a good cry in. :D

I was tapering off Paxetine back in August, and it felt just as brutal. Every single symptom you mentioned? Yeah, I had them all. I was coming down from 20 mg, trying to cut it in half. A massive panic attack woke me up in the middle of the night. Pure terror, depression, and those intrusive thoughts that just eat at you. I called my doctor immediately, but since it was a weekend, she wasn't interested in playing chemist over the phone; she just told me to take the full dose again.👎
I did a little digging online and found out that with an antidepressant like Paxil, you can taper down by as little as 10 mg, but you have to do it weekly!
So, if you were on 20 mg a day, that’s 140 mg total per week. If you drop by just 10 mg, your weekly total becomes 130 mg. Pretty sure I saw that exact detail in the Paxil insert online. Look, I'm not a pharmacist, but it's worth checking.
