fadedbear92 said:Are you talking about Adderall? It doesn't hit everyone the same way—some people stay at the same weight, some gain it, and others actually lose it.

Anyway, the main thing is watching if the med actually makes you hungry. If it does, you really have to watch what you’re putting in your mouth. For me, it's not even the ADs that make me gain weight—it's whenever they switch me over to an AP. That's when I absolutely lose it on sweets and bread. I always mess up. Then I have to go on this super strict diet just to drop everything back off, and after that, I try to be careful about how much and what I eat.
I can usually hold my weight for pretty long, like 2 or 3 years. At least until the next time things go sideways and they put me on a new AP.
You've just gotta avoid sugar and bread.
I've been doing acupuncture to help with the hunger pangs, and now that I'm on Seroquel along with a diet, I've actually lost a few pounds, though I still have a ways to go.
Bottom line is, you can lose the weight.
The one thing I could NEVER lose weight on was Zyprexa. It's a great med, seriously, but you end up eating like a dinosaur. You feel like you could eat all day long.
With Prozac, you can't even eat.

William Chavez5 said:Maybe give some herbal antidepressants a shot; you can usually pick those up right off the shelf at a drugstore.

Look, I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but honestly? For me, all that herbal stuff is basically just flavored water.
Even the actual meds felt like nothing at all—like I was taking nothing—with things like Prozac or Zyprexa.
But hey, what works for one person might not work for another. We aren't all built the same.
So maybe that herbal stuff will actually do something for you, but only if you haven't already tried the heavy-duty stuff.

It’s fine while your body is adjusting, sure, but after that initial phase? Not okay. Either they need to dial back the dosage or switch you to something else entirely.🤷

Ugh, whatever. I've been on it for two months now and I am sleeeeeeeeping.
Was I already supposed to be "used to it" by now?
Honestly, I'm terrified that if they drop my dose, I'm just going to lose my damn mind again.🤷

I think I take it too (900mg XR at night and I never felt sleepy),
It really does increase your appetite, which I guess is its biggest downside.

Man, I’m on a tiny dose compared to you. I take 25 mg in the morning, 25 mg in the afternoon, and then 100 mg at night.
It was supposed to be 50mg, 50mg, and 100mg, but honestly, it made me feel like I was on a freaking carnival ride—just dizzy as hell—so they scaled it back. God, if I took your dose, I’d sleep like a log. You only take yours at night? Maybe that’s the catch right there. I take mine throughout the day and it just knocks me out all day long. If you wait until bedtime, maybe you're just sleeping through the worst of the side effects.

Man, this Seroquel just knocks me out. I feel like I could sleep for twenty-four hours straight if I let myself. I’ve been on it for two months now and honestly, the fatigue is just hitting me hard.
And don't even get me started on the weight gain. This stuff makes me crave sugar constantly, damn it.
I mean, I *do* feel better overall, though.
Aside from the current OCD flare-ups, there are still those days where everything just falls apart.
Just look at the message I posted earlier.
Plus, whenever the OCD kicks in, the depression starts dragging me down right along with it.
Zeeeve, I'm heading to bed. Night.
Evenings are always a little easier for me, anyway.

I've been feeling so incredibly low all day, and this weather is just killing my mood. Honestly, my OCD is absolutely wrecking me lately. It’s constant. I feel like I’m just falling apart inside.
And now I'm back to washing my hands every five minutes. My hands are bright red and they sting like crazy. They're so irritated. Is there ever going to be an end to this bullshit? Because it feels like there isn't.
When you can't see a way out of it, you just spiral into these deep depressions.
I'm actually terrified they'll bump up my dose of Seroquel, because then the weight gain is going to be real.

Today has been so rough that I ended up taking 2 xanax. It knocked me out for a bit, but I still just want to cry.
I'm still hurting so much because my boyfriend walked out on me and he won't even pick up the phone.
I just can't seem to wrap my head around the fact that it's over and he's gone.
Everyone keeps telling me to just get over him and move on, but it's not that easy. It doesn't work like that.
Maybe I'll join one of those big gym chains like Planet Fitness. Maybe the exercise will help somehow.

I'm just so sad and exhausted.
Nothing seems to make any sense anymore.
The depression and the OCD are just crushing me again.

Prozac turned me into this restless, hyperactive mess. I was constantly on edge, snapping at people whenever we disagreed—which, honestly, isn't even how I usually roll.
It basically just wiped out my actual personality.
I felt like a total stranger to myself. Oh, and the random, uncontrollable laughing fits? Don't even get me started on the constant itching all over my body.

Right now, I’m on Seroquel, Anafranil, and Effexor.
I finally had a good cry, so things feel a little less heavy now.
I ended up crushing a whole box of cookies and some Hershey's chocolate today because the depression hit hard.
My body is just craving it.
Though, back when I used to work out regularly, my OCD wasn't such a nightmare.
I really need to get back into a routine.
Anyway, I'm about to go slather some Eucerin ointment on my hands; it actually works wonders, keeps my poor skin hydrated and calms down the redness.
I’ve got an appointment with my psychiatrist soon, so we'll see what we can tweak—not just the meds, but everything else too.

Anyone here ever tried Effexor?
I'm on two a day right now.
The label says it's for depression.

Jeffrey Ramos4 said:That nutritionist needs to be fired and kept far away from the public. Seriously, what is wrong with people? A 500 calorie daily limit??? 😲 It’s an invitation to wreck your metabolism and throw your entire system out of whack. Even a strict diabetic meal plan usually bottoms out at around 1,100 calories a day.
Besides, dieting without any physical activity is pretty much pointless. You really need to incorporate regular exercise or some kind of movement. I was on Seroquel once, and I gained weight and felt lethargic all the time. They eventually took me off it because I just couldn't function. Then again, when I ended up in the hospital, everything was such a chaotic mess and I was under so much stress that I couldn't eat at all. On top of that, I had akathisia from Zeldox, which left me constantly fidgeting and restless... I ended up losing almost 45 pounds in about two or three months, which is absolutely terrible and unhealthy. But that wasn't planned. I was on Seroquel back then, too. Once I got home, the sugar cravings came roaring back, and I gained all those pounds back in just a few months. My Seroquel prescription was discontinued a couple of months after that. I'm still carrying those extra 35 pounds around, and my plan is to lose them primarily through staying active. I definitely need to fix my diet too, since I basically live on sweets, which is awful. The real struggle is self-discipline and this constant craving for sugar—it's likely tied to hormonal imbalances and dealing with depression over the years.

Man, I’ve already seen him four times. Half of Los Angeles goes to him—all kinds of singers, actors...
He combines it with acupuncture to calm you down and kill your appetite.
I lost 50 lbs before and kept it off easily for two years because I was only on Anafranil. Then my OCD flared up worse and they put me on a small dose of antipsychotics just to keep me level. And I always gain weight whenever I'm on antipsychotics.

Kenneth Scott41 I can't even begin to process this... it's just one thing after another, isn't it? Honestly, I don't even know where to start because everything feels like a mess right now. It’s like we're all just spinning our wheels while waiting for something that might never actually happen. Anyway, back to what was being said—it’s just frustrating. You see people making these claims and you just want to shake them, you know? Like, come on, get real. I'm sitting here trying to make sense of it all and it's just exhausting. Just total chaos.
Man, when I was on Seroquel, I was absolutely destroying chocolate. Just devouring it. Constant snacking, no regrets.😁
Yeah, the worst part about Seroquel is how much it makes you crave sugar. It’s like my brain is constantly screaming for something sweet. I've actually started a diet recently, so I've managed to drop a little weight. But honestly? Once I get back to my old weight, I’m seriously going to have to watch everything I eat—both what I pick up and how much of it I consume. I just really hope I can actually stick to it and keep the weight off this time.
Psychotropic medication discussion thread in Psychology & Therapy ·
So my boyfriend just dropped the bomb on me—he says we’re "just friends" now. Apparently, he made up his mind about a month ago, but I wouldn't have had a clue if I hadn't cornered him today and asked him straight up.
I mean, I’d been picking up on this weird distance and coldness from him for a while, but I kept hoping we could actually make it work. I knew something was off, just felt it in my gut... but hey, a relationship takes two people, right? You can't carry the whole thing alone.
Anyway, I'm not gonna sit here and vent forever or bore you guys with all my drama. Right now, I just need some peace of mind and some serious downtime.

Anthony Lopez8 said:Are you seriously telling me a nutritionist actually put you on a 500-calorie-a-day regimen? 😲

Yeah, they did. I'm also doing acupuncture to try and kill the hunger pangs and stop the shaking.
I am starving. Like, seriously.
Mixing Seroquel with this diet... honestly, I don't think they play well together.
Psychotropic medication discussion thread in Psychology & Therapy ·
So, I’m on Seroquel now, and man, I have put on a ridiculous amount of weight in just six weeks. My appetite is through the roof, even though everything else feels okay. I just find myself constantly craving chocolate.
Starting today, I’m on this crazy 500-calorie diet my nutritionist set up for me.
I’ve actually worked with him before and managed to drop a ton of weight—I kept it off for two whole years back when I was just on Anafranil. My appetite was totally fine then. But things have gone downhill lately since they put me on Seroquel. It seriously just opens the floodgates for hunger. Trying to eat light while on Seroquel is basically impossible, but whatever, I'm going to lose these pounds. Acupuncture helps take the edge off the hunger, too.

silverharbor18 said:I can't tell if it’s just the adjustment period or the Zoloft, but the drowsiness is getting unreal. I’ve already drifted off for a nap three times today—each one lasting about an hour and a half.
I've been on it for a week now, and (so far) there aren't any other side effects, except that for the last two or three days, I've been practically begging to pass out every couple of hours. 🙂

Zoloft did absolutely nothing for me; felt like I was swallowing plain water. I didn't feel a thing. Personally, I'm just constantly exhausted from the Seroquel. But hey, I love sleeping, haha. 🙂

Honestly, this medication is a total joke. It hasn't done a single thing for me, but my doctor refuses to try anything else.

Zyprexa used to make me feel amazing, but I guess it just doesn't work for you. And honestly, it’s totally messed up that your doctor keeps pushing stuff that clearly isn't helping.
But hey, I bet you're thinking, "is it really worth switching doctors?"
Having to go to some new doc and explain your entire life story all over again from scratch??? Ugh.
I've been seeing the same practitioner for almost 8 years now. She knows me inside and out, but look, she isn't some kind of wizard either. She’s done what she can with the meds and just talking things through.
At some point, you just have to start actual psychotherapy.

velvetsailor26 I can't even begin to process this. It’s like... what am I even reading? Honestly, it feels like someone just threw a bunch of random thoughts at a wall and hoped they'd stick. It’s messy, it’s confusing, and frankly, it's kind of driving me up the wall. I mean, look at how people talk online these days. You think you're getting a straight answer, and then—bam—you're lost in some weird, circular logic loop. It's exhausting. I'm sitting here trying to make sense of it all, and my head is spinning. Is anyone else feeling this? Or is it just me being overly sensitive about everything? Probably both. Anyway, I'm just venting. My brain is fried.
Maybe it’s just because I’m only on a tiny dose, like 5 mg.🤷

I was on the 5 mg dose too, and man, I couldn't stop eating. Just constant, relentless hunger. It was brutal. How long have you been walking it off? It’s pretty wild how it doesn't even hit everyone the same way—interesting that you aren't dealing with that side effect at all.

velvetsailor26 said:I’ve actually lost quite a bit of weight since I started taking Zyprexa

Well, you’re definitely the exception to the rule. Everyone else I know ends up packing on the pounds from Zyprexa.
Psychotropic medication discussion thread in Psychology & Therapy ·
velvetsailor26 said:Yeah, it's a real shame... I honestly felt a tiny bit better on Seroquel than I do on this Zyprexa, which is nothing.😢
But my doctor refuses to switch up my prescription. I tell her straight up that I'm not doing well, and she just gives me some patronizing line about how I'm "fine, just not feeling my best," when the reality is I'm definitely not okay.

Honestly, I don't get psychiatrists who just tune out their patients when they're clearly struggling.
My psychiatrist is actually pretty cool about it. If I tell her things are getting worse, she either bumps up the dose or swaps the prescription entirely. I've been through the ringer with different meds, though. Seroquel has been working fairly well for me lately—my OCD is under control and my thoughts feel less cluttered. The only catch is the appetite; it's insane, especially for sweets. I've put on a few pounds and now I'm staring down a diet, but when those cravings hit, it's a losing battle. Not sure how I'm going to manage the hunger.
At least it’s not as aggressive as what I felt on Zyprexa. With that stuff, I used to get these shakes, almost like my blood sugar was crashing. I'd be trembling until I finally ate something. And I don't even have diabetes or anything.

That’s why guys don't have an issue with it.
