Best printer recommendations? in Computer Peripherals ·
not trying to start a whole new thread here,
but I need some solid advice on a printer that can handle a monthly workload of over 5,000 pages.
Up until now, we've been running an HP LaserJet 1020 and a P1005, but honestly, the toner costs are killing us at this volume. They did their job, but they’re basically ready for retirement. My old lady just signed some massive contract with a local firm, so the paperwork is about to explode, and she asked me to hunt down a reliable machine. While scouring the web, I stumbled upon an HP LaserJet P4515; from what I can see, it goes for around $1,400, and the OEM toners aren't cheap either—about $140 for a 10,000-page yield.
Still, that actually ends up being cheaper per page than the stuff we were using for the 1020 or the P1005. I was checking eBay and found some dirt-cheap compatible toners that claim a massive 24,000-page yield; you can grab a 4-pack for about $150. I’m a bit skeptical they'll actually hit those numbers, but even if they only manage a quarter of that, it's still a steal for the price.

So, I wanted to run this by you guys: is this printer actually a smart move in terms of ROI, specifically regarding the toner costs? Or is there some other option out there in a similar price bracket that makes more sense? Thanks, cheers!
Which PSU should I buy? in Desktops ·
Hey guys. Got a bit of a situation with a PC power supply. It’s some old PDS ATX-500 unit. My network card fried, which ended up taking my motherboard down with it—totally toast, no fixing that mess. I pulled the PSU out of the rig and now I'm wondering: is there any way to jumpstart this thing to get some juice out of it? Are those yellow wires the +12V lines? I’ve got this 150W amp lying around that runs on 12V, and since I don't have a dedicated power brick for it, I was thinking about just hacking it up to the computer PSU. Cheers, thanks.

so
1. What kind of software do you guys recommend for webcams?
2. As far as photography goes, I’ve got a Nikon 10.1 MP with a 10x zoom, but honestly, I don't have any use for it right now. (I'm actually thinking about some surveillance on my neighbor. Her window is up high, and there's this branch near the window where I could mount the camera, run a cable to a safe spot, plug it into my laptop, and just sit back and enjoy the show.) 🙂
Basically, I'm not looking for anything for video calls. Even the webcam I'm using now is pretty useless since it's only 1.3 mp.
peace and thanks.

Hey guys. So I was scrolling through eBay looking at webcams earlier and stumbled onto something that seems totally sketchy.
I'm seeing these "20.0MP" webcams listed for like five or ten bucks. What's the catch here?
I’ve been digging through the specs, and every single one of them claims
they're hitting 20 megapixels, or they list an image resolution of 5120 * 3840.
There's also something else bugging me.
I read somewhere that Microsoft Windows just defaults everything to 640 x 480.
How am I supposed to actually get any decent quality out of a webcam? I've got an old Logitech webcam, and whenever I try to snap a photo, it's stuck at 640 * 480, even though it's supposed to be able to do over 1280 * 960.
Cheers, thanks.
