Sure. People walk right in and nobody even thinks about sitting next to me. For a while there, I actually thought maybe there was something wrong with me.
It happens—you start overthinking things when your self-confidence isn't quite where it needs to be.
Maybe it’s just some kind of oral fixation. The solution is really all in our heads, it's just hard to... tap into.
I used to bite my nails constantly for years—never enough to draw blood, but still—until I finally decided I was done with it. All those specialty products and bitter polishes don't really do much.
I wouldn't call it self-punishment, though, since there isn't really a sense of pain involved. Honestly, biting your nails can actually be quite soothing, helping you make up for old voids in your life.
It provides a sense of security and a weird kind of self-care. At least, that’s how it worked for me. I haven't bitten them in five years now. Every once in a while, I might consciously put my fingers near my mouth, but that's a choice I make; I can stop whenever I want because I clearly don't have anything left to compensate for anymore.
There aren't many things in this world that are as simple yet as difficult as this. 🙂
In short, you can't help someone else until they decide they're ready to help themselves.
