But whatever, let's look at her little story and what I was actually getting at: imagine some Zen master tells a Warrior, "Just maintain a good state of consciousness and you'll find paradise." The Warrior would probably ask if the guy had eaten some bad mushrooms. The whole story loses its entire meaning if the Warrior doesn't lose his cool and draw his sword😉. That's my whole damn point
It’s a story. It had to unfold exactly the way the author envisioned it in order to get the message across. If they had just written, "paradise is a state of mind," it wouldn't have created that necessary emotional impact for the reader. None of this has anything to do with the idea that "you have to experience hell to know what heaven is"—because that's nonsense. You don't need to eat styrofoam to realize that chocolate tastes good.
Look, I know I can be a bit snarky sometimes... but I really didn't mean it that way this time. I was just building on what Thor said because I agree with him, and I didn't feel like writing an entire manifesto. You don't always have to take everything so personally. I mean, sure, you can if it makes you happy... some people just love being outraged; for them, that isn't hell, it's, I don't know, Valhalla... but I'm really not the type to tell other people how they should think or feel.
