Hey everyone, I'm back on the hunt for an office rig. Needs an SSD, obviously. It’ll mostly just be for browsing, running some diagnostic software, Microsoft Office, PDFs, and handling invoicing/billing stuff. Basically, I just need something fast that won't break the bank. Thanks in advance.
Hey everyone, I'm back. Looking for a cheap desktop setup without a monitor for office work—mostly just running diagnostics software and basic Office stuff. Ideally something budget-friendly that already has an SSD included. Any leads? Thanks in advance.
I might drop a few extra bucks to grab that GTX 1050 Ti, but is the EVGA SuperNova 500W actually decent? My current setup is running a GT 1030 on some sketchy, bottom-of-the-barrel power supply that just kicked the bucket.
Or, if the rumors are true, maybe I should just grab a new PSU at the same time so I don't have to waste gas driving all over town.
Hey, my buddy's graphics card just kicked the bucket. He’s a bit strapped for cash right now, so he asked if I could find him something up to $500, specifically looking for a budget-friendly power supply too: He's running an i3 4170 Ripjawse 8gb ddr3 Not sure about the motherboard, think it was an Asus A85 (~$167) Mainly uses the rig for gaming.
I honestly don't get why it's dragging this much or freezing up like that. I used to have an old rig with just 512MB of RAM and an Athlon 1.8GHz, and man, that thing felt snappy, like it was brand new yesterday.
I'm dealing with an old setup here, and the whole thing is crawling at a snail's pace constantly. I could really use some help getting this moving again. Here’s what I'm working with:
Asrock Prescott 800 dual channel 775V88+
Intel Celeron D 3.06GHz 1GB RAM and some random Smartbox power supply, model SMB-400 A buddy of mine thinks one of the components might be dying on me. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, thanks.
Timothy Kim60 said:The voltage specs look decent on paper, but I can't find a specific model number anywhere. Does it say who actually manufactured this thing? I need to know if these numbers are legit or just made up.
Timothy Kim60 said:pop the case open (it'll be on your left) and snap a photo or just write down the model name from the PSU label (that box where the power cord plugs in)
Look, I'm not exactly clueless when it comes to what a power supply is. 😁
Adam Moore3 said:There’s no way you have 800 MHz DDR3 Corsair RAM—you definitely misread that spec somewhere. 🙂 Look, your CPU is actually decent enough to hold onto for now. I’d just toss in another 4GB of RAM and grab an AMD Radeon R9 270. There aren't many smart moves left on this old platform, so if you're sticking with what you've got given that $833 budget, upgrading the GPU and adding more memory is pretty much your only play. You can always carry the card over to your next build later. Just let me know what kind of power supply you're running so we don't blow anything up.
I figured as much. Thanks for catching that, haha. Every site I checked online said 800MHz, and since my motherboard supports dual channel, I've been hunting for that specific RAM everywhere and coming up totally empty.
Hey, I’ve got an old rig that needs some love if I want to play games like Call of Duty or League properly. I also really want to give that new GTA a shot, but my current setup struggles with CS:
I was thinking about just grabbing some more RAM and a decent GPU. The CPU feels okay for now and the motherboard isn't anything special, but maybe it can hold out? Just figured I'd ask you guys before I pull the trigger. If anyone can help me out, I've got about $833
You're right, my bad. Honestly, he won't need much for heavy-duty software, but it's for a buddy of mine who runs his own small business, so I'm not entirely sure about his specific workflow... Since the PC will be running non-stop, I figured he’d need a solid case with decent airflow. He'll mostly just be using Office, browsing the web, and streaming movies here and there... Plus, he has a son, so there might be some gaming thrown into the mix now and then.
Looking to put together a setup for about $1,500. It’s mainly for office work, but I’d love something beefy enough to handle some heavier tasks without breaking a sweat—definitely looking for solid cooling too. I also need a monitor and a printer/scanner included, so basically everything except the keyboard and mouse.
