Was my colleague actually running a mining rig inside an ATX case? 😁

Anyway, if he actually cares about his gear, everything should fit just fine.

No, he just ended up with a bunch of extra GPUs. He picked up an ATX case after deciding to quit, used one card, and now he's selling off the rest...

I swapped out my power supply too,

it's a be quiet! EVGA SuperNOVA 500 W, since I'm checking the dimensions for length.

He's using a
Corsair HX Platinum 1000 w 80 + Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply - that's probably what was powering the mining rig...
His unit has a
Length
180 mm

But this new one I have,

You really need to double-check, just as my colleague mentioned, the dimensions of the GPU and the power supply to ensure everything actually fits inside the case.

P.S. For a small build like this, I'd highly recommend grabbing an M.2 SSD. The price is basically the same, but it saves space and gets rid of two extra cables.

Alright, thanks so much,

The idea is that a colleague (who failed at crypto mining) is offering this GPU for dirt cheap, so I want to take advantage of it.

He actually found a case in a local shop that he uses himself...

Thermaltake Core V1

So I'd be switching over to that, and since he has a beefier power supply in there, everything should fit. He's even got a 580RX in there too... so that should fit fine.

My only real worry was whether the RAM would be too bulky... but yeah, the processor comes with the stock cooler.

The max PSU length that will fit is 150mm, though they recommend staying under 140mm (it’s all clearly listed on the case specs page).
For the GPU, you really need to specify the exact vendor and model (ASUS, EVGA, MSI... Nitro, Pulse, TUF...). Dimensions vary wildly depending on the manufacturer and the specific model.

Thanks so much,

The graphics card is

I'm asking because PCPartPicker is flagging this...

Warning! Some Intel B460 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update before they can support Zen 2 CPUs. Updating the BIOS might require an older, compatible CPU to perform the flash.
Note: Certain physical clearance issues aren't automatically detected yet, like whether a CPU cooler will hit RAM sticks that have particularly tall heat spreaders.
(Report any incorrect compatibility warnings here.)

Is everything alright with this RAM, and will it actually fit inside? I've never owned a small tower before, so I honestly hadn't even considered that clearance could be an issue..

Hi there,

Could you please help me verify if these components will actually fit—both physically and from a BIOS standpoint—inside this Small Form Factor tower?

Intel Core i5-9600K (3.60GHz, 6-Core)

ASUS ROG Strix B450-F (Intel B460, Small Form Factor)

G.Skill Ripjaws V (2x, 16GB, DDR4-3200, DIMM 288)

Kingston A400 (480GB, 2.5")

Cooler Master NR200 (SFF housing)

Xilence Performance A+ III (450W)

EVGA Radeon RX 580 8GB

If anyone has any insights or suggestions, they would be more than welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Supposedly, this is an incredible deal (and it's still on sale)

He doesn't strictly need 144Hz, but there's no harm in having it, right?

For design work, an IPS panel would be ideal, but finding a 34" 21:9 3440x1440p ultrawide at this price point is tough.

Thanks so much for the reply,

Yes, I mean the 21:9 aspect ratio.

Is there anything else out there besides Xiaomi? Something similar?

My budget can stretch up to $1000, so maybe about $500 more.

What’s the most affordable IPS panel option? Specifically a 34" 21:9 WQHD ultrawide.

And if possible, something curved?
Right now we are looking at the LG 34GL750-B.

Thanks in advance for the help; we've been struggling to get the laptop to run at 120Hz using the secondary graphics output to the monitor, but it seems to be working okay for now.

Good afternoon,

I'm looking for some monitor recommendations for a friend of mine.
1. He’ll be using it for standard office work, graphic design, and video editing.
2. It will be connected to his Acer f15 f5-573g laptop equipped with an Nvidia 940 MX.
3. His budget is up to $833, and it's really important that the screen size allows for a dual-screen setup.

Right now, we are considering
SAMSUNG LS34J550WQUXEN monitor (34 ", WQHD, 60 Hz)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can provide.

Alright, thanks, but now you've actually made me second-guess myself... if higher refresh rates are better for eye strain, I might just jump straight to 240Hz and look at this one instead.

Dell UltraSharp (25", 1920 x 1080 Pixels)

It’s running north of $2,000, but I’d be willing to pay more if it really helps my eyes...

especially since most of what I've looked at doesn't even have that option.

Peter Green said:Why would you even need such a high refresh rate for management sims or strategy games?

To be honest, I’m mostly worried about eye strain. I deal with some vision issues, so I figured a higher refresh rate—like 144 Hz—might be easier on my eyes. Please feel free to correct me if I've got that wrong...

Thanks for all the input, everyone...

Have you checked this out? It shows as being in stock.

Here is a solid review for that ASUS model:
https://www.displayninja.com/asus-optix-mag241c-review/

1. I haven't looked yet—I'm actually out right now. Besides, I've already ordered from two different online retailers here and neither of them actually had it in stock (they even dragged their feet on me for weeks)....

2. I'm about to dig through that Display Ninja site to find something closer to a 5.0 rating. This AOC is sitting at a 4.9, but most others seem stuck around 4.1 or 4.2. Is this one genuinely that much better..?

My main priority is comfort. I spend entire days glued to my computer, whether I'm gaming or just working. Down the road, I might pick up Mass Effect Andromeda or some strategy games like XCOM, but nothing too crazy—I'm mostly a Football Manager guy. I just need something that won't cause unnecessary eye strain after a long session.

Hi everyone,

For the last few weeks, I’ve been hunting for an AOC 24G2U/BK with a 144 Hz refresh rate, but they seem to be sold out everywhere. Then, I stumbled upon this sale:

ASUS MSI Optix MAG241CVAPI - gaming monitor (23.6 ", full-hd, 144 Hz, Black)

Would you say this is in the same league as the AOC? I'm certainly no expert here, so I would truly appreciate your thoughts.

If not, could someone recommend a 24" monitor for under $1,800 /$667 (company budget), intended for office work and some light gaming?

Thanks in advance,
Power cable recommendations? in Desktops ·
Hi,

This might be a bit of a silly question, but I recently dealt with some power supply issues and started wondering if the cable itself could be the culprit. So,

are all these cables actually identical? Specifically, are there certain ones designed for high-capacity power supplies while others are meant for lower-end units?

Thanks for the help..
Just wondering, how long does a typical hospital stay look like following septoplasty surgery?

Thanks in advance
A friend of mine is looking to build a new PC... he isn't really sure how to navigate these forums himself, so I'm stepping in for him.

* Are you looking for an AGP or a PCI-E card?
* What does your current or intended setup look like, and what kind of power supply are you running?
* What resolution do you typically play at?
* What is your total budget?
* Which retailers are you considering?
* If there are any other specific requirements, please list them.

Here is the info he passed along to me...

PCI-E
Intel - 5200 (?!?) - Gigabyte P31-DS3L - 3GB RAM - 500GB HDD - Corsair 400W
He doesn't game - just light video editing using Premiere and Photoshop.
$167 - $200
Best Buy, Micro Center
The main thing is that it needs to have TV Out.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
