I wouldn't say I was ever in an absolutely devastating state, though I can certainly empathicoize with what you're going through. Back in college, I chose a major that didn't particularly set my soul on fire, but it felt like a safe, predictable career path. For about two or three years, I actually performed quite well, but then I hit this massive wall. There would be months where I couldn't even bring myself to open a textbook, followed by periods where I'd somehow "snap out of it," pass a few exams, and just repeat that exhausting cycle.
Once I reached my absolute breaking point, I decided to enroll in a completely different degree program—one that I was genuinely passionate about—and it was like coming back to life! It changed me as a person and completely reshaped my entire existence. I actually graduated from that first program recently (though, fingers crossed, I'll never actually have to use that degree!), but I absolutely adore my second field of study. Choosing to pursue it was probably the smartest move I have ever made in my life.
At the end of the day, anything is possible if you truly set your mind to it. You just have to make that definitive choice about what it is you actually want to do.
