I'm losing my mind, or maybe I already have

I totally get where you're coming from—honestly, I feel your pain. My job is basically one giant exercise in multitasking; I’m constantly juggling several incredibly delicate tasks all at once, mostly because my boss refuses to hire anyone else to help out. In the beginning, I actually took some totally unwarranted criticism regarding my performance, which spiraled into this obsessive need to be perfect—you know, that paralyzing fear of making even a tiny mistake or messing up a task. But then it hit me: the better and faster I perform, the more my boss just piles more work onto my plate! It’s a vicious cycle. Now, he still does things his way, but I’ve "calibrated" my output—I just do what I can. I still get frustrated when things aren't going smoothly, obviously, but I make it a point not to bring the job home with me. If you catch my drift? I do my best, I work conscientiously, and if I have something to say about how things are run, I say it to whoever needs to hear it. So far, I haven't had much trouble sticking to that philosophy. To be fair, my profession is in such high demand right now—it's a huge labor shortage field—so maybe that gives me a bit of leverage. Still, I truly believe it's better to be mentally satisfied than physically exhausted (though I suppose they're linked, if you follow my logic...). These days, I try to get outdoors more often—just go for a walk, clear my head... at the end of the day, if you don't look out for yourself, nobody else is going to do it for you.
