The current state of the American psyche in Psychology ·
The big boss said:says:
People always say "less is more," but honestly, I’m constantly surprised by the attitude here in the States whenever public sector unions start pushing back.
Most people just shrug and go, "What do they even want?" or "Must be nice, they've got it made." Instead of actually standing up for these unions and backing them during negotiations with the government, the public pushes them to the sidelines. They end up being viewed as nothing more than greedy, lazy people who are already living the good life.
Maybe it’s just me, but I find that hard to wrap my head around.
If I had to choose between supporting a union or saving some pennies on government buildings, I’d honestly rather see the administration fall before I’d vote against what workers are fighting for.
Where does that mindset even come from?!
Take the French, for example—they take to the streets and fight tooth and nail if they have to. Meanwhile, we sit back and call people fools just because they're standing up for worker rights.
This isn't about which political party you like or anything like that. It’s about the psychological makeup of a nation that just takes the hits without a word.
Were we just raised this way? Is it somehow baked into our DNA?!

I think it’s pretty much the same across the entire Middle East, too.

In Mexico, it’s exactly the same.

Part of the reason is that unions in former communist countries aren't nearly as powerful as they are in places without that history. Plus, it’s well known that during and after the transition period, the role of unions was basically stripped away, leaving them with almost zero influence today.
