People who never make the first move
in Psychology ·
Ugh... honestly, I’ve always been this way. I was never the type to reach out first or be the one blowing up someone's phone to grab a coffee or whatever. It was always everyone else calling the shots—deciding what we were doing, where we were headed, how the whole day was gonna go. Looking back, I realize it totally drove my friends insane because I was basically that person you had to practically beg just to show up... like, you had to bow down before I’d even consider hanging out. And don't even get me started on the phone thing—I’d go MIA for days and then come up with some lame excuse about leaving my iPhone at home or something... blah blah... just constant BS to cover my tracks.
But, speaking from experience, I can tell you that people like me aren't being distant because we're avoiding you or don't want to hang out. It’s actually the exact opposite. We’re terrified of being a nuisance to our friends. I’m constantly scared that if I’m the first one to suggest grabbing a drink or hitting up a concert, I’ll just end up getting rejected or told they're too busy—even though I know deep down that's just my head playing tricks on me and it's totally irrational. People like us tend to be loners, even if we actually crave social time... provided someone else makes the move first. We often feel left out for absolutely no reason at all... it sucks, really. But seriously, please don't give up on someone like that... precisely because they're like this, they're the ones who need you to 😉
