Laura Gomez31, I felt the exact same way. I honestly started panicking when I saw 😉
Jane told me everything was fine—that my uterine wall (or maybe it was the vaginal wall?) had just shifted a bit and that I needed to focus on Kegel's exercises. Fast forward to four months postpartum, and everything is back to normal where it should be 😁
My mom actually cornered me today about why I’m not working from home yet. She basically lectured me on how it’s my responsibility to stay productive because, apparently, the job market is just too brutal right now and I need to be giving it my absolute all.
It honestly got under my skin so much that I ended up tossing a few things around the house just to vent some of that frustration.
I’m about 30 days out from my due date, and after dealing with some recent pregnancy complications, it’s been pretty disheartening. Not one single person at the firm even reached out to say "congratulations" or ask how I was doing; instead, it’s just an endless stream of emails telling me to get this done or finish that. Look, I told them months ago that I could handle the specialized stuff no one else can, but that was before everything went sideways and I had to deal with medical issues. They really should have trained someone else to handle my small tasks by now—it’s not like I’m a nuclear physicist or anything.
Then, my mom drops by, and after just a couple of minutes of casual small talk, she pivots straight to work talk.
To top it all off, she managed to make me feel guilty for even being on maternity leave!
You won't believe what happened to me on the subway yesterday. Some lady actually waved me over and offered me her seat! Everyone else standing near me just stared through the window, totally stunned. I was only traveling one stop, and since I was with my husband—who was basically acting as my personal bodyguard to make sure no one bumped into me—I didn't end up taking it, but man, what a lovely surprise!
I had a total meltdown at the doctor's office today. I only popped in to pick up some paperwork, but my regular physician is on vacation, so I was seeing a substitute. I handed my insurance card to the nurse, and she just told me to hang tight. So, I waited. And waited. And waited... Not to mention, I’m eight months pregnant and my belly is practically out in front of me. She kept calling in everyone who was "hers," even people who showed up forty-five minutes after I did! Then, she ducks into my doctor's exam room, and a group of guys just hangs out by the door, blocking my way. Honestly, I stayed quiet because I didn't have the energy for an argument, but my blood pressure felt so low I was genuinely worried I might pass out right there.
When I finally made it to the front, the doctor just grabbed my file and pulled out the completed paperwork my regular doctor had already prepared!!! All that for almost two hours of waiting. I was so close to tears from pure frustration; I just muttered that I'd been waiting a bit too long, and they had the nerve to reply, "Oh, we didn't realize everything was already ready." 😠
Yesterday, I was hanging out with a group of pregnant women and new moms, just chatting about how much easier things feel now that the baby has moved higher up. It’s such a relief not having to sprint to the restroom every five minutes like I did in the early stages. My mother-in-law was just standing off to the side, eavesdropping on the whole conversation, when she suddenly blurted out, "Oh, I was just about to mention how low you're carrying because your belly hangs so much!" Meanwhile, my bump is sitting right in the middle like I swallowed a basketball instead.
I’m seven months pregnant now, and honestly, I can’t get anyone to give up their seat for me on the subway. It’s not like people aren't noticing—I’m naturally quite thin, so the bump really stands out, and I even wear those maternity shirts with the little baby footprints on them just to make it obvious. But it feels like people just scan me from head to toe, judge my pale, exhausted look, and decide they don't need to move. I always feel like I'm right on the edge of passing out, too. A few times lately, I’ve actually had to step off at a station just to catch my breath because I felt like I was about to collapse.
I honestly never had to wait in line at the FBI, even when I was swapping out all my paperwork during my pregnancy. I’d just walk up to the counter and ask if pregnant women get any kind of priority. Nobody ever bothered to tell me they didn't 😁
I’ve noticed quite a few of you venting about the dilemma of what to do with your pets once you have a baby. Honestly, I can't imagine how much harder it feels for me; I’m currently looking after four pretty large dogs 😁
The toughest part was dealing with my mother-in-law's reaction. She was the first one to start questioning my plans, acting like it’s impossible for kids and dogs to coexist, or suggesting I should just give them all away. Just for the record, these are high-end show dogs—if I actually wanted to rehome them, I could find them new owners in forty-eight hours. Instead, I’m left facing the reality of having to put one down, which is heartbreaking, though he is getting older and doesn't have much time left anyway... 😱
