The struggle of vacation cooking in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Is it just me, or is trying to cook a decent meal in a rental kitchen actually more stressful than just eating out? I always end up missing my specific tools and feeling totally unequipped. Anyone else have a "must-have" item they always try to pack just to make a meal feel normal?
Everything you need for a Midwest wedding in Weddings ·
I suppose I should start by saying that I haven't had much to say on this particular corner of the internet lately, mostly because the sheer weight of existence has been pressing down on me quite heavily, but here we are. It’s one of those days where everything feels slightly out of alignment, isn't it? Like a clock that’s lost its rhythm or a car engine that just won't catch despite your best efforts. I was sitting there earlier—just staring out the window at the gray skyline, thinking about how much effort we put into things that ultimately don't matter—and I realized that sometimes, the silence is the only honest thing left. Anyway, I'm back, even if my enthusiasm for most things remains buried under layers of weary cynicism. As Mark says:
We have finally secured the hall and the band, which feels like a massive weight off my shoulders, yet now we find ourselves facing the inevitable next hurdle: selecting a photographer. Since we are based closer to the Midwest, our options have narrowed down significantly to just two contenders—Video Studio Gamma and Photo Top. I am curious if anyone here has had any firsthand dealings with either of them? Any insights, warnings, or even vague suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are scheduled to sit down for consultations with both outfits very soon, and frankly, I’d prefer to go into those meetings with at least some semblance of an idea of what we might be walking into.

Honestly, you have to see the work coming out of Gamma Video Studio; those guys are practically weaving magic spells when it comes to filming and photography! It’s truly something else.😉
Olivia Cooper272 said:John, Lana, Tia, and Eve are all solid names, and even Victor—if we end up having a boy, he’s definitely getting that one. Look, I get it. You don't want people making fun of your kid's name, so you probably don't feel like making fun of anyone else's either, even if their kid is named after some mobster from a Scorsese flick. My whole vibe is pretty simple: if something bugs me, I’ll say it out loud, but I’m not about going around judging other people's business.

In that case, perhaps you ought to take that advice directly to my brother-in-law, because he actually had the audacity to suggest we name our baby after our dog... so my little remark was born entirely from that context. Honestly, though, I have to wonder where he gets the nerve to pass judgment in the first place; when he had his own child, nobody dared to say a single word to him, so I fail to see why he suddenly thinks he's been granted some divine right to lecture us or offer unsolicited commentary on our lives.
Edward Rodriguez4 said:Some lady actually had the nerve to tell me I should be scrubbing my nipples really hard with a towel every single day after my shower... I was like, uh, excuse me?! 🙂 Not a chance, I'm not even letting people look at them, let alone rubbing them like that. Good grief!
I'm fully convinced my milk is gonna be flowing like a damn river 🤣 and my little one is always gonna be stuffed... 😬

As for the name, people around me keep rolling their eyes (let's call her Eve) and I have no idea why... 🤷 I guess if it isn't some trendy, mainstream name, it's "not good enough." Screw 'em. ☕

Personally, I think Eve is just lovely. 😍😍
When we finally announced that our little girl's name would be Selena, my brother-in-law had the nerve to comment that people these days just pick names out of thin air for everything, and then he—acting like such a genius—told us he named his kid after some character from a mob movie... how incredibly "original" of him...👎
It truly grates on my nerves when there is absolutely nothing of consequence happening, just every third day. I am sitting here hooked up to this CTG monitor, counting every tiny, insignificant little movement, feeling as sluggish as a pack mule, while my legs feel heavy and clumsy, almost like those oversized, lumbering limbs you see on an elephant from some Small town in the US Midwest... honestly, it feels more like being trapped in some sort of chaotic animal kingdom than a hospital room...🤣🤣

As for me, I eventually found some relief using a blood-strengthening syrup, though the constant straining from the various medications left me with a rather unwelcome little "holiday gift" to deal with... yes, hemorrhoids🤣🤣
Noah Ramirez7 said:Look, in America, it's totally normal for families to play favorites like this, so I don't see why it wouldn't happen here too... it's like none of the kids are any good except for the one from my sister-in-law... hers are basically gold, you know? And I can't even wrap my head around loving the little guy... I know, I know, he's a baby and I shouldn't feel this way, but seriously, that kid is just so incredibly irritating and I can't stand him, it's actually wild... and I don't think it's just us either, because his grandparents act like he's some kind of perfect little angel... oh man, if you could only hear how they brag about how well he eats or how he plays so nicely... it honestly makes my skin crawl when they start acting like that.
..and I am right there with you... I just want my folks to stick around forever... at least then my kid will actually get to experience what having real, awesome grandparents is all about. 😍

I second that completely.👍
I can’t say I expect any drama with my mother-in-law, mostly because she hasn't had the audacity to meddle in our business or offer unsolicited advice on how we run our lives—so, really, credit where credit is due. She’s always been much more devoted to her eldest son, who is essentially the golden child, and by extension, his wife and their one little boy, who is currently the center of her universe. Since I married the younger brother, I’ve mostly been an observer to this dynamic, where if the older brother so much as snaps his fingers, she’s already halfway out the door to do his bidding, largely because they provide the financial backbone for everything. We’re actually facing a bit of a logistical nightmare coming up in January; it looks like I’ll be stuck in the maternity ward, while she’ll be over in the gynecology wing for a minor procedure, and my nephew will also be in the pediatric unit for surgery. And get this—listen to the sheer nerve of her—she actually told our family doctor, "Please don't schedule my surgery for January; my daughter-in-law needs to give birth, and he needs to be ready for her, plus there’s another grandmother who can step in to help." Honestly, I think she was just saying that to be polite, because deep down she knows my parents will be right there by my side for everything. For her, it's all about the panic of not being able to fly over the second the baby comes home from the hospital and being expected to play the role of the tireless, hovering grandmother—and we all know exactly why that is.
My child isn't even here yet, but I have this sinking, gut-wrenching feeling that there will always be a blatant hierarchy between these two grandchildren... but I suppose it doesn't matter, as long as my own parents stay healthy and around for as long as possible.
Edward Rodriguez4 said:So I went to the local Red Cross clinic today for my last blood donation, and let me tell you, the woman working there absolutely butchered me... it was like she was skinning a deer or something! And honestly, how much blood do they really need? I’m telling you, they just sell it all off later—probably straight to some butcher shop to make blood sausages or whatever. Absolute scum! Plus, why does it hurt so damn much when they hit a vein?! Honestly, I’d rather have them just go straight for the jugular; at least then they might actually hit something instead of this mess... and then she has the nerve to comment, "Oh, your veins are so deep!!" Yeah, well, thanks for noticing! 🙄
Should I ask her to use a shallower needle next time???☕

😂😂😂
Honestly, darling, it would probably be more efficient if you just collected your own samples in a little cup, much like when you provide a urine sample. Those people are just *so* incredibly occupied with their vital duties. In our neck of the woods, the lab officially opens at 7:00 AM, but the staff won't even grace us with their presence until nearly 8:00 because they're far too busy sipping coffee. It's truly a tragedy when they're forced to actually work until 2:00 PM, especially considering they manage to squeeze in about ten different breaks before the clock even hits noon...
My blood pressure absolutely skyrocketed last night because my brother-in-law—that total moron—decided to weigh in with one of his usual condescending remarks about how people nowadays pick out names for their kids like they’re naming a Golden Retriever or some other random pet... He dropped this whole judgmental lecture right after he overheard what we’ve actually decided to call our little one... And to make matters worse, my husband was completely useless in the moment; he wouldn't listen to a word I said and then had the audacity to chime in saying he actually likes the name Lucy, as if I hadn't already made the decision myself... Honestly, at this rate, I might as well have just invented the name from thin air to shut everyone up once and for all.🙂
My dear ladies, since I have only a tiny bit of "peaceful" time left before everything goes completely sideways—because my commanding officer just informed me that we’ll be on full combat footing starting December 29th—I have made a definitive executive decision. From this moment forward, nothing is permitted to rattle my nerves, irritate my sensibilities, or catch me off guard. To all the various calamities and little evils that might attempt to disrupt my composure, I am simply presenting them with this: 👍
Let’s get one thing straight: I have never had much patience for people who carry themselves with that fragile, "handle with care" sort of ego, but what happened recently wasn't just irritating—it actually stung. It truly hurt. I have a colleague, someone I’ve considered a close friend for what feels like an eternity, and when everyone else in our circle decided to distance themselves from her, I was the one who stepped up and brought her into my inner circle. And please, don't think I'm sitting here fishing for a commendation or waiting for some corporate award for my altruism 😁, because I'm not. But in these nearly thirty-five years of navigating life, not once—not a single time—has she bothered to ask how I am doing, or how my baby is faring, or even sent a simple, fleeting text message just to check in. What makes this whole situation feel even more pathetic and disheartening is that she works at the same firm as my mother, yet even she hasn't had the decency to jokingly ask after me... 😢
Please, don't let this weigh on you quite so heavily; I truly believe you are standing on the precipice of some of the most exquisite moments your life will ever offer. I realize how terribly easy it is for the rest of us to sit back and offer unsolicited wisdom or patronizing advice when things look bleak, but I have lived long enough to know that even the most relentless storms eventually break, allowing the sun to emerge and restore everything to its rightful order...😉
Allow me to offer my own little observation regarding this whole business of insults and verbal sparring... I certainly don't enjoy the kind of idyllic marriage Cruz and Eden have over in Santa Barbara 🤣, though one might wish for it; instead, my husband and I tend to engage in rather heated exchanges where we say things we probably shouldn't, often letting our tongues run wild in the heat of the moment. We don't truly mean the venomous things we spit when the blood is boiling—it’s more of a verbal storm than anything else—but the crux of the matter is what happens once the passion subsides and the temper cools (though, if I’m being honest, it takes me considerably longer to find my center than it does him 😁). At that point, one must possess the basic human decency to step up, admit they were wrong, attempt to mend the rift, and actually learn from the chaos so it doesn't repeat itself... after all, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
I must confess, ever since I became pregnant, I haven't exactly been the paragon of fairness or saintly behavior toward my better half, which leads me to believe he might be quite hesitant about us having a second child 🤣🤣
. So, there I have it—a rather cluttered little essay on my part, but I suppose I've made my point clearly enough..😉
Edward Rodriguez4 said:As for me, those damn hormones didn't even start messing with my head until about a month ago... 🤷
everyone deals with this stuff differently, I guess..
it isn't even constant or lasting forever either. What's really killing me is the constant pressure on my bladder... and that ache in my "pelvic bones"... ugh... it seriously hurts like crazy... but hey, what can you do? just gotta push through it! 👍

I honestly cannot tell if it is the hormonal shifts at play or something else entirely, but I find myself weeping quite frequently lately, gripped by this irrational fear that I will end up being a subpar mother—that I simply won't possess the necessary nerves or the patience required to pull it off. My husband tries his best to soothe my anxieties, telling me we'll just take it one day at a time like everyone else does and that everything will eventually settle down, but frankly, his comfort falls on deaf ears right now..😢
as for the bladder pressure, the bone aches, and the discharge—well, let's not even go there.....😁
thank goodness I am finally starting to count down the weeks.😍
My brother-in-law and his wife promised they’d gift us a crib, but they’re dragging their feet and saying we have to wait a month; meanwhile, my mother-in-law swore she’d handle the changing table, but now she’s gone completely silent 🙄—honestly, whatever, we’ll just pick one out ourselves once my husband gets his Christmas bonus...
And I would give anything to have the nursery all set up right this second..

It was the exact same story at my house; when I first found out I was pregnant, my sister-in-law told me not to stress about buying gear or little baby clothes because she had everything saved up for us... and then, nothing but radio silence from her end since then..
Now, every single time my husband and I head out to buy something for the baby, or if someone else offers to help us out with a gift, she starts making this huge scene, acting all indignant as if to say, "Why on earth are you buying things when I supposedly have it all covered?"—honestly, who does she think she is? 🤷
I’m due in eight weeks, not eight months, so we don't exactly have the luxury of waiting around, and I have absolutely no intention of begging them for anything, especially since they know perfectly well how tight our budget is right now...
Thank God we only need a stroller at this point, which isn't an immediate emergency anyway, and I know there's a big sale coming up soon...
Sometimes, the sheer level of human stupidity is just boundless...... 😁
So, there I was today, just running some errands at Target, when I unexpectedly ran into this former neighbor I hadn't laid eyes on in ages, and she hits me out of nowhere with this bizarrely blunt "compliment": she tells me I look absolutely wonderful, except—and here comes the kicker—I've clearly picked up a bit of a belly, though otherwise, I don't even look pregnant... I mean, I was momentarily stunned by her sheer audacity 😍
but then came the absolute cold shower: she follows it up by remarking how my face looks completely distorted now... wtf? 😠
What am I supposed to look like, some sort of hybrid from Alien vs. Predator?
Naturally, I had to give this genius a piece of my mind; I told her quite plainly that my face will eventually return to its natural state, but certain people simply lack the capacity for intelligence, which is a permanent condition 😂 🤣
Anyway, have a nice day.....
Edward Rodriguez4 said:I don't find it funny at all, and it definitely isn't "cute," because I've been carrying extra weight my entire life (nothing crazy, but still). It’s like what La Roux says—it's like they think they can just wrap us up in cellophane while we're pregnant...
It bugs me, and I'm not afraid to show it.☕

I’ve been dealing with some extra pounds myself for ages, and frankly, I feel like I ought to follow your lead and let them know exactly how much this "cute" little poking and prodding annoys me—I'd love to see them all packed off to the middle of nowhere... because if I don't speak up now, when on earth will I get the perfect opportunity?👍
Edward Rodriguez4 said:I’ve already posted a few times about how being called "fat" can drive my blood pressure up so high I feel like I'm actually going to explode...
then I just remind myself that it's just a reflection of how they were raised, which makes it easier to deal with...
actually, look at it this way: the reason it's so shocking to you is because YOU were actually raised with manners! U P B R E A T ! While they clearly weren't! 😉

It truly grinds my gears as well, this obsession with calling people "fat," because even before I was pregnant, I always had a larger frame, and everyone used to tell me, "Oh, don't worry, it's just a sturdy bone structure," which was somewhat helped by the fact that I'm quite tall, so now, whenever someone dares to ask me "where is the fat on you?", I can almost see them thinking that they can finally say what they really think to my face, provided they wrap it in enough polite cellophane to pass it off as a compliment since, after all, I am expecting... goodness, I've rambled on quite a bit now, but I sincerely hope you all understand where I'm coming from...
