Dana Stewart6 said:So, here’s the situation: I’ve been in a relationship for eight years now, and for the last nine months, we’ve been living together. The core issue is this—my partner is ready to have a child, but I am completely at a loss regarding my own desires. To be honest, I am terrified of having a kid and the massive weight of responsibility that comes with parenthood. In fact, the fear is so intense that it makes me question if I even want children at all. We both just hit the thirty-year mark.
I am truly at a standstill. I don't know what to think, what action to take, or how to navigate this dilemma. I can't even pinpoint where this overwhelming anxiety is coming from.

The issue is actually with your partner here... If you actually wanted a kid, you wouldn't be making all these excuses against it. You don't want one, and he's gotta respect that... After eight years together, he should've brought this up way sooner instead of just dropping it on you out of nowhere like, "Hey, I want a kid now."

I did read it, including the stuff about health issues, but look—you aren't the only one dealing with heavy stuff. I'm really sorry you're going through that. I'm not judging you personally; if anything, I'm judging all of us for just sitting on the sidelines while people around us are struggling.

My next-door neighbor lost her dad when she was only 16, and then lost her mom to breast cancer just a few years later. I know plenty of people who have basically hated life since the day they were born... but they still keep fighting. I think most people do it for their kids. Do you have any children?

You clearly need someone who’s just gonna tell you what you want to hear. Good luck.

I’m just completely drained. Spent the whole night crying without even knowing why... These last two years have absolutely gutted me. For months now, I’ve been dealing with constant migraines, stomach issues, and this sharp pain in my left chest. I have zero motivation. My palms are constantly sweating—I actually have a tissue on my desk right now because I can't stop wiping them.
My mom is seriously ill, my dad lost his job, and my brother is caught up in some legal trouble that has me terrified for him. At work, we're going through a massive reorganization; ten of my closest colleagues were already laid off, and I feel like I'm next in line. On top of that, I recently watched someone I love die from lung cancer. Then my dog of 14 years passed away. Even with my husband, it feels like we're just roommates. We don't talk about anything because he's so closed off, and intimacy is basically non-existent... just a formality once a month.
Lately, I catch myself thinking about how much easier it would be if I just wasn't here. I just don't have any strength left...

Look, you just need to realize there are plenty of people going through stuff like this, and there always will be. Basically, we all get what's coming to us because we don't stick up for others when things are going great for us, and then by the time it hits us, it's too late.

Just look at the kids in Africa and see how they live and still find ways to fight. Think about how many of them die every single day and in such horrible ways... meanwhile, you're upset about a dog passing and having a dry spell in the bedroom. People around us die from cancer every day and that's pretty much considered normal... if anyone gets laid off, I'd suggest they go to Africa to help people instead of just sitting around complaining...link

Maybe it could help you tackle those cravings for sweets or whatever else is causing weight gain. It might actually solve the issue.
Or perhaps it could address the sadness, since I was just reading about what you've been going through.

Look, the main thing is to stay away from those quick fixes. They might help temporarily, but they're just Band-Aids over the actual issue; they don't fix the root cause. You probably just want us to tell you how to get back to being your "old self," but that’s not how life works. Everything takes effort, period. You've gotta treat those bad habits like an enemy and stop letting them run your life. Honestly? It feels like you aren't ready to let go of anything that feels good right now because, hey, you only live once. But once you actually make that sacrifice, you'll find joy in totally different things, or you'll find a new kind of strength. You can totally do this.

Look, I get that it's mostly mental and that I should just force myself to stay disciplined... but the second I feel a little down, I turn to food to cope. It's more like I'm using food to comfort myself, really.
And it’s just a cycle. I’m terrified that time is slipping away and I'll never break free from this, never actually feel relaxed or happy with myself.

Man, when I wanted to see if I could actually pull this off, I just switched to a diet heavy on stews—think chili, beans, leeks... stuff like that. I kept carrots in the fridge so I could just grab one for dinner. Combining that with some core workouts to tighten everything up gave me results crazy fast. Now I know if I don't keep my posture tight, those pounds will just creep right back on.

Oh, and I cut out the sodas and candy bars and swapped them for fruit. Don't even try telling me you can't do that... it sounds ridiculous. Just say, "No, I don't want to give up chocolate, lounging around, soda, or great food," and call it a day. Stop with the "I wish I could" nonsense.
