For a few months now, they’ve been telling everyone they really ought to call ahead and schedule a slot. Usually, you’ll get a date within about a week of calling. Still, you always see people trying to wing it by just showing up unannounced, claiming they didn't know or some other excuse, and somehow, the staff ends up squeezing them in anyway.

Even if you do book an appointment and have a specific time set, don't expect things to run like clockwork; you’ll likely end up waiting in line downstairs in the basement, so definitely budget plenty of time for the whole ordeal. It isn't quite the experience where you're scheduled for 9:00 and you're stepping into the doctor's office at exactly 9:00. Bring a bottle of water or something to keep you occupied, because it can get pretty stuffy down there. In my experience, I spent about an hour waiting downstairs only to spend about five minutes with the doctor upstairs, though I think everything went fine since I had an actual appointment. If they give you referrals for ultrasounds or other tests, I’d highly recommend checking whether you can do those right then and there or if you need to schedule a separate visit, because waiting for an ultrasound can easily take a couple of months.

I was wondering how the enrollment process actually works under this new system if, say, a specific grade level has an intake capacity of 30 students, but only 24 applicants actually meet the required point threshold. In those instances, will they start pulling in students who fall below the cutoff, or will the class just end up being smaller than planned? (Assuming there are still open spots left over after the fall enrollment period, of course).

I'm not entirely sure if this will appeal to you, but it might be worth checking out the new student dormitory. They have these apartment-style setups that basically function just like a hotel suite—you get a kitchen, a living area, a bathroom, and a bedroom with two beds. It was roughly around $67 per person. They also offer standard rooms (room, kitchen, bath) and maybe even some basic dorm rooms, both of which should end up being cheaper options. Since there are hardly any students around during the weekends, it’s much quieter. If you're part of the younger crowd, why not give it a shot?

With actual prescriptions, it works by having them sent via email (or so my sister mentioned after talking to her doctor), provided you hand over your insurance card, so I suspect the process for referrals might be just as streamlined.

On a different note, I have a question: is it actually true that I can't see a dentist in one city if my residency is registered in another? I've got two teeth currently mid-treatment that are driving me absolutely crazy, and frankly, it’s both expensive and exhausting to commute all the way back to my hometown every single week. 😢

You can actually get a dog vaccinated against rabies starting at just three months old.

Dogs aren't inherently toxic, so a bite or a scratch shouldn't be an issue in itself, but you definitely want them vaccinated for their own protection (and if you're in the States, microchipping usually happens right then and there too). I think there might be some kind of promotion or discount coming up in February to help with the costs.

I’ve come to believe that the whole "detox" craze is absolute nonsense, mostly because I watched this documentary where they split women into two different groups. Basically, one group just ate a regular diet—you know, fats, sweets, the usual—while the other group lived exclusively on blended vegetable juices. 🤣 After a few weeks (which, honestly, sounded like a nightmare filled with constant bickering and petty jealousy from the juice-only crowd), they retested both groups—it was something about kidney and liver function, if I recall correctly—and found out the results were identical. The plant-based group saw absolutely no health improvements whatsoever. I’d suggest you just stick to eating reasonably (if only I could follow my own advice 🤣), keeping things varied with plenty of meat, veggies, fruit, and tea. As for that rash you mentioned, it might actually be an allergic reaction.
