Dog bite incidents

So, I was just playing around with my dog earlier—nothing crazy, just some wrestling—and his tooth accidentally caught my hand. It wasn't even a bite, really, more like he just snagged my skin with his tooth in two little spots. There was a tiny bit of blood, though, nothing major, kind of like when you get a little prick from a thorn or a splinter. My pup is about 8 months old and hasn't had all his shots yet. I already went ahead and washed the area with soap and dabbed a bit of rubbing alcohol on it, so I'm wondering if I actually need to go see a doctor or anything? Honestly, I feel totally fine and haven't noticed any issues at all.

And how’s the dog doing? I mean, from what I gather, the poor thing hasn't even been vaccinated yet... 🙄

Man, just thinking back to how many times I got shredded by cats or nipped by dogs... but honestly, growing up as a kid out in rural Montana with my grandma, that was basically just a Tuesday for me. Between the scratches and constantly scraping my knees raw—usually before the old ones even had a chance to heal—it was just part of life.

Don't sweat it—there’s really no need to go out and grab the hand sanitizer either. I’m just washing my hands because, well, dog spit...

So what if it hasn't been vaccinated? It's not rabid...

Puppies can start getting their shots at six months, sure—but mother's milk provides immunity until they're about a year old.

I’m positive the dog isn't acting aggressive at all.
I actually had my tetanus shot back in 2007 after getting nipped by a little pup, so if my memory serves me right, I should still be covered for another five to ten years. Honestly, I completely wiped that shot from my mind, so knowing I've likely got that protection makes me feel a whole lot better about everything.

Where on earth did you get vaccinated?😕 At a local church or something?😍

Just so you know, that tetanus vaccine usually lasts about five years before you need a booster, so you should still be good for now, and then you just get a little follow-up shot after that.

What on earth do you mean by "breastfeeding retention"? What are we even talking about here? 🤣 Is this one of those old wives' tales, like how women supposedly can't get pregnant while nursing? 😂

You can actually get a dog vaccinated against rabies starting at just three months old.

Dogs aren't inherently toxic, so a bite or a scratch shouldn't be an issue in itself, but you definitely want them vaccinated for their own protection (and if you're in the States, microchipping usually happens right then and there too). I think there might be some kind of promotion or discount coming up in February to help with the costs.
