I have always had a habit of rooting for whoever beat us. Right now, that would be the Mexicans, though I suspect they’ll end up losing to Denmark.

This is an incredibly poignant question to raise here. In my view, the most critical factor is empathy—specifically, the degree to which I can actually relate to the perpetrator and understand their motivations. Some transgressions are relatively easy to forgive, while others are fundamentally unforgivable... such as pedophilia, or the atrocities committed against Jews, Roms, and the gay community. If a crime is minor, I find it easy to grasp where that "sin" originates, but when it comes to pedophilia, that simply isn't the case.
Because of that, the worst crimes ever committed cannot be forgiven by any human being, simply because there is no way to identify with them. And that is where my belief in God begins... or rather, the necessity for Him...
If God does not exist, who is left to forgive Hitler? Can any single human being truly offer him forgiveness?
Forgiveness can be beneficial for both the victim and the offender, but sometimes, forgiving isn't enough... forgetting isn't enough... sometimes, hatred is necessary... and occasionally, it serves a purpose. Turning the other cheek isn't a solution in certain instances, nor is it even desirable. That particular teaching just doesn't hold water for me... sometimes you have to meet force with force, or simply refuse to forgive. There are people on this planet who do not comprehend kindness, and no amount of forgiveness helps if you are, for example, a victim of pedophilia... turning the other cheek doesn't work there...
Imagine a child who has been victimized by pedophilia, sitting in a church listening to a priest—the very person who abused them—preaching about turning the other cheek and offering forgiveness... quite simply, there are lines that should never be crossed... I don't care who says otherwise, even if it were God Himself descending to Earth... it just isn't just... or right.

I believe that both faith and hope should be discarded as methods of engagement in favor of a dedicated pursuit of the truth. Humans are perfectly capable of doing just that.

Individually, perhaps. As a species? That's a much harder sell...

Honestly, I’m starting to feel the same way... the more time passes, the clearer it becomes.
The most fascinating part is when someone finally realizes this truth; it triggers a struggle so profound that even the most unhinged prophets couldn't begin to describe it if they were predicting the end of days.
So, it isn't surprising that believers find it such a massive hurdle to transition into atheism, regardless of how many facts are laid out in front of them.

Don't you get the feeling that Truth, with a capital T, isn't looking to be hunted down by everyone? It’s not like it wants to reveal its entire self to the masses, but rather chooses to show us one little piece at a time.

All those seekers, thinkers, and independent souls who push themselves to the limit to find even a shred of what we call the Great Truth—aren't they actually chosen by the Truth itself as it slowly reveals its face to them? 😲😉

Does a person arrive at the Truth through some innate predisposition, or is it strictly a matter of choice?
