Gotta dealin' with two routers pushing the same SSID—one's just a repeater—and my laptop keeps picking the weak one... total pain. Is there any way to force a connection to a specific unit when they both look identical in the network list?
I’ve been running these same drivers for a year straight—this mess only started about six weeks ago... I shut my PC down every single night, so don't tell me it's a restart issue, the problem's been hanging around for nearly two months now
The title pretty much says it all—every 15 to 30 minutes, my PC kicks me out of full screen while I'm gaming or watching videos. Games usually just minimize entirely, and with videos, the taskbar keeps popping up over the image... I could deal with it during a movie, but gaming? Forget it. Especially when you're mid-match in an online game. I’ve tried everything—killed most background apps, gutted my startup list, uninstalled anything even remotely suspicious, even ditched my antivirus and silenced notifications. Honestly, I'm running out of moves short of a total Windows reinstall, but given how many programs I'd have to set back up, that's a last resort. Anyone got a clue? I'm about two seconds away from chucking this laptop against a wall...
Wait, the warranty expired that fast?
Might still be good, though... I know places like MSU and some shops in Chicago handle motherboard repairs—might be fixable. Or maybe just hunt for one on eBay... either way, grabbing a new board is definitely cheaper than replacing the whole rig...

If everything’s running, fine—it just needs to pull those default BIOS settings. I pulled that same move once to get a buddy's Dell running... So, the trick I mentioned is basically just to leave it alone—turn it on and let it sit. Won't cost you anything, just let that junk run for maybe 15 or 20 minutes. Let me know if it actually works, I'm dying to find out...
Give this a shot—hit the power button and just let it sit. You’ll probably see the lights come on and hear the fan spinning, but the screen's gonna stay black... just don't touch anything for a few minutes, maybe even up to 15 if you're lucky. It should trigger a BIOS reset. Sometimes it does the reboot on its own, other times you might have to kick it manually. I’ve got the same Dell Inspiron myself and I messed with some BIOS settings I definitely shouldn't have—ended up in the exact same mess
If you can unscrew that little antenna thing from the router, just swap it out for a different one—they’re all standard fits anyway. You could even run an extension coaxial cable if you wanted... You can pick up antennas and cables pretty much anywhere online. I'll shoot you a DM with the link to the guy I used for my gear; his stuff is actually decent
It doesn't matter what the name is or if it's "General Electric"... what matters is whether you can actually swap out the antennas for higher gain ones. Routers with those kinds of options run you anywhere from $400 to $200 around here—and even then, they're a pain to find. This cheap junk from China has been running for two years now and works just fine...
Try opening it in a different browser—and while you're at it, check if your Java and Flash Player are even up to date...
