Office meltdown in Psychology & Therapy ·
hiddenstag said:To be honest, I’m at a loss for how to handle my own rage. I’ve always been one of those people who, once I set my mind to something, I see it through to the end. If things don't go according to plan, my first instinct is usually to go off on someone. I’ve actually climbed quite high in my career, and I hold a pretty senior management position now. But what really gets under my skin—what I struggle with most—is seeing people half-ass their jobs or just totally slack off. It throws me completely out of whack, and I feel like I lose all control. There are moments where I just want to smash everything in sight, and it takes me a long time to finally settle down.
I just don't know how to find some calm.

Why not just call a meeting and tell them straight—nicely, of course—that if they aren't feeling this job, they should probably find something else? You've got to let them know you'll be watching closely and won't hesitate to let someone go if they aren't pulling their weight. You also need to give out some praise every now and then—try keeping your voice steady and using "please" once in a while to boost motivation instead of barking orders like they're slaves. A little kindness actually works! If you start yelling, people stop listening and just end up hating you, which honestly just gives them more fuel to annoy you. Wouldn't staying calm work better? And hey, you know how it is—when you try to hide something, people just get more curious. Use that to your advantage. It's the simplest way to handle it. Good luck!
