In my view, it comes down to the fact that women tend to be quite protective of their beauty and even their culinary skills—like how much pride goes into making a perfect batch of homemade apple pie. As long as people keep feeding that ego with flattery, it just keeps the fire burning. But the moment someone actually has the guts to shatter that illusion and hold up a real mirror to them, they practically crumble 🙂. It’s not even necessarily about love at that point; it feels more like some kind of deep-seated, innate masochism!
